Chapter 249: The Thunderbolt Pirates and the Thunder Fruit

_____

The Bipolar Sea was infamous throughout the New World.

Here, two immensely powerful ocean currents clashed incessantly, like two titanic forces locked in an eternal battle. The sheer impact of their collision could obliterate anything caught in its grasp.

This relentless turmoil was the origin of the sea's name.

Within the Bipolar Sea, islands existed only in its marginal zones. The core area, however, was a chaotic expanse of violent currents and massive waves.

No pirate group claimed dominion over this treacherous region.

Legends whispered that no ship in history had ever crossed the Bipolar Sea safely.

For pirates, it was a perfect escape route when faced with an overwhelming adversary. The currents were so fierce and unpredictable that even the strongest pursuers hesitated to follow.

This advantage made the islands surrounding the Bipolar Sea a magnet for drifters, renegades, and outlaws.

Among the inhabitants were seasoned pirates who had retired after decades of sailing, criminals who had crossed paths with Pirate Emperors, and other dangerous individuals.

The Bipolar Sea was more chaotic than even the most infamous pirate havens. It was a true lawless zone, rife with treachery and violence.

Among the islands, Los Silos was the largest and most notorious.

And on Los Silos, the Tsunami Bar reigned as its most famous establishment.

Long before nightfall, the bar was already packed to the brim.

The noise was deafening, as though it might tear the roof off at any moment.

Suddenly, a piece of news spread through the crowd, and the commotion grew louder.

A middle-aged man wearing a cowboy hat asked, "Really? The Thunderbolt Pirates... wiped out?"

The man beside him shrugged. "Not sure. Word is they got caught in a chaotic current and pulled under. No one saw them escape, so maybe they're dead."

The man in the cowboy hat sneered, his voice dripping with mockery.

"Hahaha! That arrogant bastard, always bragging about conquering the Bipolar Sea—looks like karma finally caught up with him!"

A teasing voice piped up from a nearby table.

"Hey, Jerry, stop pretending. Everyone knows you hate Leig because he slept with your wife!"

"You're dead meat!"

Jerry, the man in the cowboy hat, exploded in rage. He slammed the table and drew a pistol from his waist.

The other man remained unfazed, calmly unsheathing his longsword.

"What? You want a piece of me? Weren't you the guy too spineless to do anything after your wife got stolen?"

Jerry's face twisted with fury, his eyes turning bloodshot.

Another voice chimed in, adding fuel to the fire.

"Old Dan, come on, man! You don't hit someone in the face, and you definitely don't bring up their wife in front of a crowd! Hahaha!"

"Jerry, are you seriously taking this lying down? Beat him up!"

"Yeah, kill him! Do it!"

The crowd wasn't interested in stopping the fight. Instead, they cheered gleefully, egging it on.

Suddenly, the bar's door creaked open, and a ragged young man stepped inside.

The customer nearest the door smirked.

"Hey, beggar! This is the Tsunami Bar. Got money, or are you just here to—"

The young man turned to face him.

The customer froze, his sneer vanishing as terror replaced it.

"Le... Leig?! I'm sorry! I didn't realize!"

The young man said nothing, withdrawing his gaze as he stepped further into the bar.

Leig?

A wave of eerie silence swept through the Tsunami Bar, starting at the door and spreading inward.

The patrons, confused, glanced around, trying to figure out what had caused the sudden hush.

The ragged young man walked up to the bar, his movements deliberate.

"Leig? You're alive?" someone finally shouted, breaking the silence.

The young man turned, scanning the crowd with cold, violent eyes. It felt as though thunderclouds were gathering within his gaze, ready to unleash a storm.

"Alive?" he said, his voice low and menacing. "Who said I was dead? You trash are still breathing—how could I be gone?"

The room fell into complete silence.

In the Bipolar Sea, there were many dangerous individuals, but Leig was undoubtedly among the most feared.

What made him so terrifying wasn't just his immense strength—it was his unhinged, reckless nature.

Even though he looked disheveled now, the fact that he was alive was enough to deter anyone from provoking him.

The man in the cowboy hat, who had been boisterous moments earlier, kept his head down. He pulled his hat low over his face, hoping to avoid Leig's gaze entirely.

From behind the bar, the owner peeked out, his expression forced into a smile.

"You survived the chaotic currents? That's impressive—truly worthy of the Thunder Fruit user."

The owner's tone shifted slightly. "But it seems your companions didn't share the same luck."

Leig's expression remained blank. Without a word, he tossed a stack of coins onto the counter.

"The Thunderbolt Pirates are recruiting," he said flatly. "Anyone interested can find me at our headquarters."

Without waiting for a response, Leig turned and walked out of the bar.

Only after the door closed behind him did the tension in the room begin to dissipate.

"I can't believe he survived that," someone whispered.

"Hey, are you thinking of joining the Thunderbolt Pirates? With Leig's protection, you'd be untouchable in the Bipolar Sea!"

"Are you new here? Let me tell you, his protection doesn't last.Leig changes his crew more often than some people change clothes."

The man in the cowboy hat let out a deep sigh of relief, his hands trembling slightly as he adjusted his hat. Beneath the brim, fear burned in his eyes, though it quickly turned to anger as he clenched his teeth.

"Damn it! That lunatic is still alive!"

Bang!

The door to the Tsunami Bar slammed open once more.

Everyone froze as a familiar figure appeared in the doorway.

The room fell silent again.

Leig smirked darkly.

"Heh, I forgot something."

He raised his arm, spreading his fingers wide.

Snap!

His arm transformed into a massive bolt of blue lightning, illuminating the entire bar in a dazzling flash.

The electrified air made everyone's hair stand on end. Many patrons instinctively reached for their weapons.

Boom!

The lightning struck the man in the cowboy hat squarely, his body charred black in an instant as he collapsed to the floor.

"Leig!"

The bar owner's face twisted in displeasure.

The other patrons also looked annoyed, but none dared to speak.

Leig scanned the room coldly, then turned and left without a word.

It wasn't until five minutes after he disappeared that the bar regained its lively atmosphere.

"Damn lunatic!" someone muttered.

"Yeah, he's just as violent as the stories say."

"Too arrogant!"

"Arrogant or not, with the power of the Thunder Fruit, he's earned it."

A voice chimed in from the corner.

"They say the World Government tried to recruit Leig as a Shichibukai, but he turned them down."

"Of course he did," another patron scoffed. "With his personality, there's no way he'd agree to be a dog for the World Government. Shichibukai? That's an insult to him! If it weren't for the Bipolar Sea, Leig would've become a Pirate Emperor by now!"

The room erupted into heated debate.

"Pirate Emperor? Don't kid yourself! Even Leig wouldn't be that arrogant!"

"Do you really think a Logia-type Devil Fruit is all it takes to be a Pirate Emperor? Please, grow up!"

"Let me tell you this—Leig isn't even close to the Navy's three admirals!"

The Core of the Bipolar Sea

Thunder cracked, lightning illuminated the skies, torrential rain poured, and howling winds screamed.

Amidst this chaos, a ship floated eerily in mid-air, defying gravity.

At the bow, Aoki and Robin stood side by side, gazing at the apocalyptic scene around them.

Crash!

Towering waves, hundreds of meters high, rose and fell, roaring like beasts. From the depths of the sea to the stormy skies above, it felt as though the world itself was crying out in fury.

Aoki stared in awe.

"So this is the Bipolar Sea. It's even more terrifying than I imagined!"

Robin's eyes reflected both shock and wonder.

"It's like standing at the end of the world," she murmured.
