Chapter 68
“I want to greet Mr. Logan…”
I looked up at Logan with big, tear-filled eyes, and he clutched his chest, overwhelmed.
“Th-Then… maybe you could just wave at me a little…”
“Like this?” I smiled and waved my hand at him.
“Hello, Mr. Logan.”
“Ahhh!”
This time, his reaction was even more dramatic than before.
“To think there’s someone so kind and cute in Elpinard…”
Logan looked like he was about to cry. Considering he worked under the cold and stoic Duke, it seemed that even this small act of kindness was enough to completely disarm him.
Hehe.
I chuckled inwardly and tugged on Logan’s pants.
“I have a question.”
“Yes, young lady? What are you curious about?” Logan bent down to my level, smiling widely. He was completely unguarded now.
“How many people work in Elpinard?”
“How many people work here?” Logan tilted his head, surprised by the question, but he answered without hesitation.
“I don’t have the exact number on hand, but I believe it’s around a thousand.”
“A th-thousand!”
I had expected a large number, but this was far beyond what I had imagined.
“Yes. It takes the efforts of that many people to keep this massive estate running smoothly.”
“I-I see…”
I swallowed hard and jotted down a note in my notebook.
‘Employees… more than a thousand…’
“And how much do you spend on wages? How many gold coins?”
“Wages? My, you already know such difficult terms!”
“Yes. I attend the Ivory Tower. I’m smart.”
“Ah, of course. You’re not an ordinary child!”
Somehow, Logan had started referring to me as “our young lady.” This was a far cry from the man who would open doors for the Duke with a cold, professional demeanor. To think he could change so much in such a short time…
‘It seems being cute is the best strategy after all.’
I should have adopted this approach earlier.
“Well, it’s not an exact figure, but I believe we spend tens of billions every month. Around thirty billion, if I recall correctly.”
“Th-Thirty billion!”
I hastily scribbled the number into my notebook, mentally screaming ‘Jackpot!’ over and over.
A thousand people to be potentially laid off.
Thirty billion in wages every month.
‘I might never have to complete another quest again…!’
“Mr. Logan…”
I looked up at him again with my big, pleading eyes.
“I… have a favor to ask…”
I spoke cautiously, and Logan immediately shook his head.
“A favor? Elpinard never asks for favors from its retainers. You give orders.”
“Then will you listen to my order?”
“Of course. What would you like me to do?” Logan asked lightly, clearly assuming that any request from a child would be something trivial.
But what I was about to ask was anything but small.
“Mr. Logan,” I said, handing over three documents that I had prepared in advance. “Please stamp these for me!”
“Yes,” Logan responded reflexively, but as the meaning of my request sank in, his eyes widened in shock.
“What?!”
* * *
“Why not?” Reshia tilted her head in confusion, looking up at Logan with innocent eyes, while he began to sweat nervously. Unlike the other cold and stoic members of Elpinard, this small, adorable young lady was hard to refuse. But stamping a document was an entirely different matter.
Any document with an official stamp became a legitimate, formal paper. As the Duke’s closest retainer, Logan’s stamp held significant weight and authority. He knew better than anyone that his stamp carried substantial influence.
“Well… young lady, I can help you with anything else, but I can’t just stamp documents like this.”
“Hmm. You’re right. Stamps are important,” Reshia agreed with a nod, which gave Logan a brief moment of relief.
However, Reshia wasn’t done.
“But Mr. Logan, could you at least take a look at these before deciding?”
Reshia extended the documents towards him with her tiny hands. Looking at her small, delicate fingers made Logan’s heart soften, but he remained firm. He might seem gentle, but Logan was no pushover; he had served as the Duke’s right-hand man for years. His position wasn’t one gained lightly, and he knew that some things simply weren’t negotiable.
“I’m sorry, young lady, but I cannot stamp these documents.”
“You won’t even look at them…?” Reshia’s voice was tinged with disappointment, making Logan sigh.
“All right, let me take a look,” Logan said, reluctantly accepting the papers. He intended to just skim through them and then politely refuse.
The documents were written in Reshia’s own handwriting, which was a bit messy but still legible. Despite the childish script, Logan could easily understand the content. As he read through all three pages, his expression grew increasingly peculiar.
If he stamped all three documents, they would become completely meaningless. Why would she want something like that? Logan pondered for a moment before handing the documents back to Reshia with a small smile.
“If I stamp these, can I dispose of them right away? While the documents are harmless if all three are stamped, even one of them being leaked could cause problems.”
“Yes, that’s fine!” Reshia agreed cheerfully.
“Very well. Shall we go stamp them then?” Logan finally relented.
* * *
Logan seemed puzzled by my unusual request, but in the end, he agreed to stamp the documents.
‘Naturally,’ I thought.
After all, the three documents I gave him would become completely meaningless once they were all approved in sequence.
The documents I gave to Logan were as follows:
**Termination of all employees at the Duke of Elpinard’s estate.**
**Reinstatement of all terminated employees at the Duke of Elpinard’s estate, with double their previous wages.**
**Reduction of all employees’ wages at the Duke of Elpinard’s estate by half.**
If these were sequentially stamped into official documents…
‘In the end, it would all just come full circle, maintaining the status quo!’
But the quests don’t work that way.
‘The quests are independent and have no continuity between them!’
The moment Logan stamped documents 1 and 3, the quests from the God of Frugality would be fulfilled.
‘Just like this!’
**[Message from Heaven]**
**(Notification) Quest Success!**
*Congratulations. You have been awarded 10,360,000 Heaven Coins. Would you like to collect your reward now?*
**[Yes/No]**
This was the reward for the quest **“Too Much of a Good Thing! (1)”**.
**[Message from Heaven]**
**(Notification) Quest Success!**
*Congratulations. You have been awarded 3,150,000,000 Heaven Coins. Would you like to collect your reward now?*
**[Yes/No]**
And this was the reward for the quest **“Too Much of a Good Thing! (2)”**.
Altogether, I had just earned a total of 3,160,360,000 Heaven Coins from these two quests!
‘If I donate all this to extend my subscription…’
I could live for over 20,000 years!
Of course, I wasn’t planning on living that long, but securing a hefty amount of lifespan was definitely a good thing.
‘After all, the lifespan can be adjusted by the amount of Heaven Coins I donate!’
Plus, with this immense fortune, I could now afford to buy all sorts of items from the Heaven Market that I never even dared to consider before.
‘Jackpot.’
This is a real jackpot! I grinned broadly as I stared at the message window displaying the enormous numbers.
* * *
At that moment, Heaven was in an uproar over the massive payout of coins.
“Where is that bastard Tenakis? Where is he?!”
“I knew something was up when he started ranting about frugality. Acting like a miser has led to this absurd situation!”
“This is our first subscriber in years, and now that they’ve made so much, they won’t bother solving any more of our quests!”
“No! We still have a mountain of tasks that need doing! What are we going to do about this? Where is Tenakis?”
The voices of multiple gods, indistinguishable from one another, blended into a chaotic uproar, but they all had the same message.
God of Frugality, Tenakis!
Get out here right now!
The gods were all frantically searching for the one responsible for this mess, their eyes practically blazing with fury.
