Chapter 7: Chapter 7: A New Journey
The air was thick with tension as the beast lay defeated at their feet. The group slowly gathered themselves, taking in the destruction left behind by Xalins outburst. The ground was scorched, chunks of earth scattered around them, and the remnants of the mighty Glareus lay in two clean halves. The power that surged through Xalin had dissipated, but its mark remained on everyone who had witnessed it.
Xalin was still catching his breath when Kell, the shadow user, approached him. His long black hair, tied neatly behind his head but flowing down to his waist, swayed slightly as he walked. His glowing blue eyes were thoughtful, but his expression was relaxed.
"Hey," Kell said, breaking the silence, "got room for one more?"
Xalin blinked, taken aback. "You want to come with us?"
Kell just smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I think it'd be interesting to stick with you. Besides, I can help you figure out your shadow ability."
From behind, the group leader, Boros, furrowed his brow, clearly not expecting this turn of events. His hulking frame towered over them as he crossed his arms. "Kell, are you really leaving us?" Boros asked, his deep voice carrying a hint of surprise and disappointment.
Kell glanced back at Boros and the others, his smile widening just a bit. "Yeah, its time for a new adventure. Besides, it looks like Xalins going to need someone to help him keep control of all that power."
Boros sighed but nodded in understanding. "You're a good fighter, Kell. We'll miss you."
As they began to leave, Boros called out again. "Wait good luck out there." With a flick of his wrist, Boros tossed them an intermediate orb, which glimmered in the light.
Without missing a beat, Kell caught it not with his hands, but with his shadow. The orb vanished into the darkness as his shadow absorbed it into a hidden space.
"Cool," Xalin said, clearly impressed.
Kell smirked. "Just a little trick I picked up."
And so, the new trio Xalin, Kell, and Lira began their journey. They moved through the rugged terrain of Draenor, the gray skies above casting a dim light on the unfamiliar world. As they walked, the tension from the earlier fight began to fade, replaced by a quiet sense of camaraderie.
After hours of walking, they found a quiet spot near a cluster of ancient trees, their roots twisting and coiling through the earth. The soft sound of water trickling from a nearby stream was the only noise in the peaceful area. They decided to take a break, sitting on the moss-covered ground.
Xalin leaned back against a tree, feeling the weight of the day finally catching up to him. He looked at his new companions, two strangers who had quickly become allies. He wasn't one to open up easily, but something about this moment made him feel like sharing.
"So I guess I should tell you more about how I ended up here," Xalin said, his voice low and thoughtful.
Kell nodded, leaning forward slightly. "Yeah, I've been wondering."
Xalin sighed, staring up at the sky as he began. "I wasn't always like this able to control black fire, or even have these abilities. I grew up pretty normal, for the most part. But everything changed when I found out I was connected to the Luminary lineage. Its something ancient, something tied to this enormous responsibility. My powers started to manifest, but I didn't know how to control them. I nearly destroyed everything around me more than once."
He paused, looking down at his hands. "The worst part is Im supposed to save the universe from something big, but I cant even control myself half the time. Every time I tap into that Luminary state, I lose myself. Its like walking a tightrope, and one wrong move means disaster."
Lira, who had been listening quietly, spoke next. "It must be hard, carrying that kind of burden."
Xalin nodded. "It is. I don't know if Im ready for it. But I have to keep moving forward, hoping I figure it out before its too late."
Lira shifted, her eyes softening as she spoke. "I understand what its like to carry something heavy on your shoulders. My blood manipulation, it's not something I asked for. Its a hereditary ability, passed down through my family. At first, I hated it. It felt like a curse. My parents wanted me to use it for things I didn't believe in. Controlling blood, manipulating it it can be dangerous in the wrong hands."
She looked down at her own hands, her voice growing quieter. "But I left that life behind. I wanted to use my power to help others, not control them. Im still learning how to master it, and there are days when I feel like Im no better than what my family wanted me to be. But I know I can do better. I just have to keep trying."
Kell, who had been sitting back, listening carefully, decided to chime in. "You're not alone in that struggle. I wasn't born with my shadow powers. I was taught by someone I admired. A mentor of sorts. He was the strongest shadow user Id ever met, and he saw potential in me. He taught me everything I know about shadow manipulation."
His gaze grew distant for a moment, as if recalling something painful. "But the thing about shadows is, they're fickle. They respond to your emotions, to your control or lack thereof. There were times I let the shadows consume me. Times I thought Id never break free from them."
Kell smiled, but there was a hint of sadness behind it. "But I did break free. And then, I joined Boros and the others. We had some good times together, taking on beasts and learning how to work as a team. But something was always missing. I guess that's why Im here with you guys now. There's something bigger happening, and I want to be a part of it."
Xalin looked over at Kell, realizing how similar their struggles were. They were all dealing with forces bigger than themselves, trying to find balance between power and control.
"Sounds like we've all got our demons to fight," Xalin said, a half-smile forming on his face.
Kell chuckled. "Yeah, but at least were not fighting them alone."
Lira nodded in agreement. "We've got each other now. And maybe that's all we need."
The three of them sat in silence for a moment, each lost in their thoughts. The weight of their pasts and their powers hung between them, but it no longer felt as heavy. There was a sense of hope now a hope that together, they could face whatever came their way.
As the sun began to set, casting an eerie glow over the landscape, Kell stood up and stretched. "Alright, enough of this heartfelt stuff. We've got a long road ahead of us. Lets keep moving before we get caught by something nastier than Glareus."
Xalin grinned, standing up and brushing the dirt from his clothes. "Yeah, wouldn't want that."
Lira smiled, joining them as they began walking once more, a new sense of purpose driving them forward.
