Chapter 11: I Need Money!
Lihua didn't want to stop taking in patients.
First, she couldn't bear to watch the hopeless people die from the Honkai's torment. And second…
She wanted to farm favorability.
Every patient she took in was like another small energy ATM!
Money was worthless in this world to Lihua. She couldn't take it with her when she died. Wealth and power were meaningless to her, and this world's backwards entertainment had no appeal for someone from the future.
But the energy she earned here? She could take that with her!
Using the worthless money of this world to obtain energy that could allow her to have a peaceful life was a steal. She wasn't going to stop helping people.
Since she didn't want to cut spending, the only option was to increase income.
For Lihua, there was a simple solution for her lack of money and resources: to directly exchange energy in the System.
Items like money and supplies were the cheapest things in the System Shop. She could obtain them every month when the shop refreshed.
She had a whopping 200,000 energy points now! Even a small amount of that could be exchanged for a large sum of money and supplies. If she wanted to, she could put the whole of Kolosten into hospital beds, not just these few thousand patients!
The problem was that she wouldn't be able to explain where all these things came from.
Her hospital was so big now, Lihua didn't think Schicksal wouldn't be watching. If she suddenly pulled out a pile of medicine, who knew what kind of crazy ideas they'd come up with.
That was it. Lihua was just worried about things getting complicated. It definitely wasn't because she didn't want to spend energy.
Definitely not!
Since she couldn't use the easiest method, Lihua had to settle for plan B.
That was to find sponsors.
---
"This is amazing! Everything is so organized!"
Lihua was guiding a curious Kallen through the hospital.
Though everyone was required to wear protective gear, Lihua didn't force Kallen. Her body was a strong as a Kaslana, so a face mask was enough.
She was lively without a heavy protective suit, wanting to explore every corner of the pharmacy, clinic, and laundry room.
When she saw the fully-armed staff disinfecting, her eyes sparkled. "This is amazing! It's even more organized than Schicksal's hospital!"
"You flatter me. It's not that amazing."
Lihua smiled humbly on the outside, but she was practically jumping for joy on the inside.
What was she expecting? This is a 21st-century approach to medicine. It has to be better than the medieval methods!
What was up with Otto? He was supposed to develop the cure for the Black Death around this time, right?
Why was the cure still so expensive on the black market? And why was Schicksal's medical expertise so bad?
Otto, what's wrong with you Otto?
"Lihua, what are you thinking about?" Kallen asked as she realized that Lihua was standing still.
"Hmm, I was thinking about Otto." Lihua smiled at Kallen. "I invited him to come here, but he didn't show up... Do you think he hates me now?"
[Energy +900]
"It's always Otto. Why can't..." Kallen muttered quietly.
"What did you say, Kallen?" Lihua asked, confused.
Why was Kallen sending her energy out of the blue? Did she get mad because Lihua randomly mentioned her friend?
That didn't seem likely, Kallen didn't like Otto.
Did her butterfly effect cause Kallen to stop being a lesbian?
Lihua's heart sank. Had she done something disastrous?
The story of Honkai Impact 3rd started because of Otto's unrequited love for Kallen. If Otto succeeded with Kallen because of her, what would the rest of the story be about?
Wait, did that have anything to do with her?
Her character was going to die anyway. Who cares what happens after?
Come and get me in the real world!
With that in mind, Lihua relaxed. At the same time, Kallen sorted out her thoughts and gave Lihua a dazzling smile. "It's nothing. It won't happen. Otto... is just busy."
Otto had been acting different recently. He wasn't the same person as before. But she didn't want to make Lihua worried.
"Really? That's good." Lihua nodded and smiled.
She couldn't send a letter to Otto, and Kallen knew what he was doing. It was clear that she had succeeded in being a matchmaker this time!
If those two got together, they wouldn't experience those tragedies, right? Heh, she'd consider it her reward for all the energy she'd harvested from them.
Especially from that energy-hoarding brat Otto. He should kneel down and thank her!
"Oh, Kallen. Actually, there is something I wanted to ask of you. I'll make sure to repay you later..."
Kallen's eyes widened in surprise.
She had always seen Lihua as an optimistic older sister, always helping her. This was the first time she had seen Lihua being vulnerable.
Lihua relying on her was originally a good thing. But Kallen couldn't be happy about it.
Why did she have to "ask" her?
Had she and Lihua grown distant enough to use that word?
Why?
And just now, Lihua was talking about Otto again.
She always mentioned Otto, no matter if they were at Schicksal HQ, at the Kaslana training grounds, or at this hospital...
Otto, Otto, Otto--why is your mind always on Otto?!
Can't you see me, Lihua? I'm standing right in front of you!
I can help you too! You don't have to ask that guy!
Why is it him? He doesn't even want to see you!
Was it because he met you one month before me...?
Lihua, what do I have to do to make you look at me?
If Otto died, would you look at me?
If I broke your limbs and locked you in a cell, would you look at me?
[Energy +5000]
"Kallen?"
Lihua's worried voice snapped Kallen out of her thoughts. She felt a chill run down her spine when she recalled her recent thoughts.
What was she thinking?
If she had done those things, Lihua would be the first one to hate her.
She was a Schicksal Valkyrie. She wanted to change the world with Lihua, a companion that would bring happiness to everyone!
With those thoughts, Kallen smiled and quickly changed the subject. "Oh, I was just spacing out. You said you wanted my help? Of course, you can ask me anything."
