The Villain is Too Good at Broadcasting

Chapter 29 - Evil Gang (1)

Chapter 29 Evil Gang (1)

It had already been a week since I started broadcasting.

I woke up feeling great, greeting the fresh morning happily.

The time was 10 AM.

Since I ended the broadcast a bit early yesterday, I wasn’t particularly tired.

<“Shia-nim! I’ll be there soon. I’m so excited and nervous!”>

When I checked my smartphone, I saw a message from someone on Katok.

The reason I woke up this early today.

It was because I had an interview with a candidate who would handle the editing of my videos.

Originally, ChickenBox was supposed to introduce a professional editor to me, but this editor, who was coming to my house today, had contacted me through a different route.

-“That guy’s a real Evil Gang. He sometimes edits my videos too, but he’s perfect except for his personality.”

That ‘route’ was through Dong-su hyung.

Apparently, he was a video editor that Dong-su hyung knew personally, and he had been involved in most of Dong-su hyung’s legendary videos, indicating his high skill level.

However, the word ‘personality’ bothered me a bit.

A real Evil Gang….

When I interacted with him through Katok or phone, he seemed like a very gentle person.

His voice was polite, and he spoke in a tone that was as restrained as possible.

Well, you never truly know someone until you meet them in person.

After replying to him, I went to the bathroom to wash my face.

There was no need to be too neat when meeting a guy.

After washing up, I threw on a light hoodie and stepped outside.

Perhaps because it rained over the weekend, the weather was quite cool.

It was just the right weather to start planning various outdoor content.

Of course, my core content was still game broadcasting.

I leisurely walked, looking at the trees planted in the park in front of my house, and arrived at my destination.

Ding-dong.

As I opened the door to the café and stepped in, a cool breeze from the air conditioner hit my face.

Yes, air conditioning is the best.

Outdoor broadcasts are overrated; indoor broadcasting is the way to go.

“Here!”

As I looked around after entering the café, a young man dressed casually raised his hand.

I was a bit taken aback by an image quite different from what I had expected and approached him slowly.

“Hello.”

“I’ve already ordered an iced Americano for you, Shia-nim.”

“Oh, how did you know I only drink this…?”

“I’ve been watching Kim Chan-sik-nim’s broadcasts regularly.”

“I’m sorry, I should be the one treating you.”

“Think of it as a real-life donation!”

A real-life donation.

It felt nice.

Since I was a bit thirsty, I took a big sip of the iced Americano and looked at him slowly.

“So….”

“My name is Sung Woo-hyun. I’m twenty-two this year, so you can speak comfortably.”

“Twenty-two?”

He was much younger than I had thought.

Originally, I was looking for an editor in their mid-twenties, primarily because of military service.

It would be a hassle to find a new editor if the one I hired had to leave for the military.

However, I nodded at Woo-hyun’s next words.

“I’m an American citizen. No need to worry about the military.”

…If I’m jealous, I lose.

Some people, like me, enlisted unintentionally due to the strengthened Military Service Act.

Damn it!

Anyway, he met one of the main qualifications.

“Did you hear about my portfolio from Dong-su hyung?”

“I reviewed it thoroughly.”

“That’s a relief! I had prepared to show you just in case, but I guess it’s unnecessary?”

Woo-hyun said, pushing aside the tablet PC he was holding.

Then, he looked at me with a gleam in his eyes.

“I first learned about you from the AOA tutorial video. I edited that one.”

The tutorial video shot during the collaborative broadcast with Dong-su hyung.

I had heard that it was edited by Dong-su hyung’s editor and uploaded to his MeTube channel.

I hadn’t been watching much MeTube lately, so I didn’t know, but I heard the views were rising daily?

So many people had come to my broadcast after seeing the video on MeTube.

Of course, most of them were the so-called ‘newbie trolls.’

“When I saw your broadcast, I really wanted to be your dedicated editor. Your broadcast style matches exactly what I pursue.”

Honestly, there aren’t many editors who could enhance the concept of my provocative, unhealthy broadcast.

The best way was to hire an editor familiar with such an atmosphere.

Seeing the look in Woo-hyun’s eyes, I began to trust him more.

That look was one that couldn’t come from someone sane. Every time he talked about my broadcast, he exuded fervent energy.

“I’ll do my best to maintain the natural vibe. Isn’t that what you want too?”

“Can you edit it so it doesn’t get the yellow mark on MeTube?”

The yellow mark is a simple censorship system on MeTube.

It usually marks videos that could cause disputes or raise issues, but the problem is that if a video gets the yellow mark, it can’t generate revenue.

And given the nature of my broadcast, the likelihood of producing such provocative content was very high.

However, Woo-hyun seemed to have anticipated my question.

He smiled broadly as he answered.

“MeTube’s AI bot for yellow marks has evolved recently, but there’s no need to worry too much.”

He took a sip of the cherryade in front of him and finished with an evil grin.

“I’m an expert in that area. I like to walk the line… Shia-nim, don’t you find it thrilling too?”

“So?”

“We’ll have fun right at the edge without getting reported. Isn’t that what you want, Shia-nim? Oh, and until we generate proper revenue, I’ll work for free….”

“You’re hired.”

Absolutely hired.

For the 악질, by the 악질, of the 악질.

Thus, the birth of 악튜브 was decided.

After my productive meeting with Woo-hyun, I went straight to the sauna to clean up.

Then I returned home and changed into the neatest outfit I could find.

“Jin-hyuk, are you ready?”

“Yeah, hyung.”

“Dong-su hyung is almost here.”

Today, I planned to start the broadcast a bit late.

Because today was the day of the team draw for the ‘Streamer LOS Apocalypse’ hosted by Twipod, which would start in two weeks.

In fact, most streamers had already pre-determined their teams.

Nevertheless, the reason for holding a draw was clear.

To allow many streamers to socialize and, if the opportunity arose, collaborate!

Opportunities for uniquely individual streamers to gather were rare.

This was one of those times.

I had received an official invitation from Twipod to participate in the apocalypse as a streamer.

“Guys.”

“Oh? Didn’t hyung drive today?”

Dong-su hyung appeared in a taxi.

Where had he left his beloved Ferrari that he always boasted about, waving at us from the taxi window?

“We’re drinking after the draw today, right? Bringing the car would just be inconvenient.”

“Drinking?”

“Yeah, didn’t I tell you earlier? We’re having a get-together with the ChickenBox guys.”

“You didn’t mention that.”

“Well, it’s good you know now. Get in quickly. It’ll be rush hour soon.”

He really was a carefree person.

Anyway, we got into the taxi with Dong-su hyung and headed to an event hall in Sindorim.

After about a 20-minute ride, we arrived at the bustling event hall and met Sung-jae, who had been waiting for us.

“Oh, Chan-sik! I’ve been waiting for you!”

Sung-jae approached me immediately, extending his hand with a smile.

“I really enjoyed the joint team ranking you did the day before yesterday. By the way, doesn’t Na-young have any plans to debut as a streamer?”

“I don’t think so.”

“That’s a shame. It would be great if ChickenBox could produce another mega rookie.”

I expected the topic of Na-young to come up.

Sung-jae smacked his lips regretfully and led us inside the event hall.

Inside, the hall was buzzing with activity for the draw that would start in an hour.

Streamers who had arrived early were gathered in groups, chatting, and people who looked like Twipod staff were mingling and chatting happily with them.

Dong-su hyung glanced at them and then whispered to me.

“Do you see that guy over there? The one in the blue striped shirt.”

“Yes.”

“That’s Jackson Oh, a pretty famous Twipod employee.”

Jackson Oh?

Is he Korean-American?

“He’s a Korean-American. Personally, I don’t like him.”

“Why?”

“He’s uncomfortable to be around. You’ll understand as time goes by. It might not concern you, but Jin-hyuk probably knows.”

At those words, I glanced at Jin-hyuk.

Jin-hyuk was glaring at the employee named Jackson Oh with a frown.

For Jin-hyuk, who enjoyed meeting people, to express such displeasure meant that Jackson Oh was someone with a considerable reason behind it.

“He discriminates against people based on their viewer numbers.”

“…Well, since Twipod staffers’ performance is based on viewer numbers, isn’t that expected?”

“No, that guy’s different. He acts like a king. Oh, he’s coming over.”

While Jin-hyuk was openly expressing hostility, the problematic ‘Jackson Oh’ approached us.

He first extended his hand to me and greeted me gently.

“Are you Streamer Shia? I enjoy watching your broadcasts.”

“I’m Shia.”

“Haha, I strongly insisted that we must have you participate in the apocalypse. Thank you so much for coming.”

Jackson

Oh smiled warmly as he greeted me, then nodded lightly at Dong-su hyung and Jin-hyuk.

“You two are here as well.”

As Jackson Oh was about to greet the other two, Sung-jae, who had been observing from the sidelines, quickly stepped in and spoke.

“Haha, Jackson.”

“Oh, Sung-jae.”

“Don’t we have something to discuss? The matter we talked about last time, it’s not appropriate to discuss here. Shall we continue elsewhere?”

It was evident to anyone that Sung-jae was intentionally taking him away.

Jackson Oh glanced at Dong-su hyung and Jin-hyuk, then chuckled and followed Sung-jae.

Dong-su hyung gritted his teeth and looked at Jackson Oh disappearing into the distance, then turned to me and said,

“He’s an admin who doesn’t get along well with ChickenBox.”

“Why?”

“One of our streamers had their Twipod partner contract terminated last time. It’s a long story. I’ll tell you over drinks later.”

With that, he walked toward the group of streamers.

I followed Dong-su hyung and glanced around.

Streamers were grouped together with their friends.

Among them were streamers I used to watch frequently during my military service, and seeing them in person felt quite new.

“Chan-sik, this is your place now.”

Dong-su hyung patted my back, sensing my expression.

“Ah! Chan-sik is here.”

“Our Chan-sik, you’re here?”

When we arrived at our assigned seats, Sae-rin nuna and Yoo-seon nuna, who had been waiting for us, greeted us warmly.

“How have you been?”

“Of course!”

“Hey, what happened to that female guest on your recent broadcast? Are you two dating?”

“Huh?”

“Sae-rin always talks about that. Just ignore her.”

“Unnie!”

As the two nunas excitedly welcomed me, some nearby streamers approached us with curiosity.

“This person seems to be a new face?”

“I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere, where was it?”

Some streamers didn’t watch other people’s broadcasts.

No matter how famous I had become, I was still a rookie with only a week’s broadcasting experience.

Existing streamers might not know me.

I bowed slightly to them and introduced myself.

“I’m a new streamer, Shia. Nice to meet you.”

Then.

“…Shia?”

“The… Evil Gang… leader?”

The streamers’ faces stiffened instantly.

Just how much had the Evil Gang run wild for them to react this way?

It seemed that today was going to be quite a rough day.

This was also my karma, wasn’t it?
