Chapter 229: The Start Of The Age Of Piracy
[ Third Person POV ]
Loguetown, East Blue
"Gold Roger has been a huge thorn to the name of Justice; under the orders of the World Government, he has been sentenced to death," Fleet Admiral Kong concluded.
His speech finishes by highlighting Roger's sentence. It didn't garner much attention from the crowd because everyone already knew the end result. However, what the crowd was being wary of was the pirate who was standing next to a hooded individual, watching the execution go down.
The man had nothing on except for a jacket. An axe almost the same size as he rested comfortably on his back. The man had dark grey dreadlocks tied into a bun while a strand or two lazily fell on both temples.
His eyes, though aloof, held a distinct power to them. It was almost like they were holding back something dreadful from happening.
Everyone within the gathering at the town square had been keeping one eye on him. Major pirates kept their weapons in hand just in case something bad happened, and all the higher-ups within the Marines kept a weary eye on him.
"This is insane....Are the Marines just going to let him watch the execution? Shouldn't they have already started a fight to stop him from getting on the island?!" One spectator muttered out loud.
"There isn't anything they can do now, at least while Gold Roger is still alive," another spectator muttered.
Admiral Sengoku slowly walked up to the podium. He seemed to have another speech ready for the occasion.
"So that's the Storm Dragon of the Whitebeard Pirates...I wonder how I'll fair against him," A man with black hair that was slicked back pondered out loud. He had gold earrings and was smoking a cigar while watching Boris. His eyes brimming with battle intent.
Every pirate within the vicinity had been curious to see the power of the Storm Dragon. Though they had heard about the numerous feats of the Storm Dragon from newspapers and rumors, it wouldn't compare to seeing the Storm Dragon's feats in person.
"As such, I want to send a message out to you Pirates who continue to disgrace the name of Justice," Sengoku said while glaring at Boris, "Count your days because your time will soon come, and Justice will be served!"
The man in question's expression barely changed as he locked eyes with the Admiral. He didn't seem fazed in the slightest by the obvious threat made to him. After a brief staring contest between Boris and Sengoku. Sengoku slowly stepped off the podium, and the next person coming up was the main event for the execution.
Roger slowly began walking up the podium and went further on to start taking the steps towards the gallows.
Everyone's eyes were glued on Roger as he finally stood on top of the gallows, right next to his executioners, who held large blades as they stood at attention.
Roger smiled at the huge crowd before plopping himself on the planked floor of the gallows. The air around the town was tense as they all kept looking at Roger anxiously.
Was he going to break out?
Was a fight going to break out?
There were countless possibilities that were stemming in the minds of the spectators as they watched the executioners perform their routine and raise their blades.
Then it happened.
"Roger!! Where'd you hide it?! That great treasure of yours! The One Piece!!!" A random spectator yelled out.
"You want my treasure? Then find it! It's yours if you can find it!!" Roger's voice boomed, "I left it all in one place!!!"
Murmurs immediately erupted within the crowd. Sengoku let out a cold sweat as he immediately ordered them to kill Roger.
The execution guards raised their blades before running them through Roger's body. One blade pierced the heart, and the other went through the trachea to cut off Roger's bleeding. It was just like that: The King Of The Pirates had died.
However, his words' impact would affect the world for a long time.
"The One Piece....interesting," Donquixote Doflamingo smiled as he slowly walked off.
The crowd of spectators slowly began to sturred.
"One Piece...What kind of treasure is it?"
"It's great enough to have Roger executed for it!"
"I wonder how much money I'll make off of it?"
"Back off! The treasure is mine!!"
The small spark Roger had caused by announcing where the treasure was immediately grew into a blaze of curiosity and ambition.
Many watching spectators immediately left the town square and began preparing to set sail to find the treasure of the so-called 'One Piece.'
"That damned Roger!" Sengoku growled as he looked at the fresh corpse of the Pirate King.
"That took an unexpected turn," Garp replied as he folded his arms and looked around for any trouble.
"We're going to have a lot of troubles in the future," Fleet Admiral Kong stated as he watched countless people rush off.
A white-haired kid had been pushed around as multiple people began rushing off the island. He couldn't stand his ground because of how small he was, and he ended up bumping into the leg of a certain individual who'd be watching all this chaos unfold without a change in expression.
The boy and Boris locked eyes with each other. Boris had already recognized the identity of the child.
"Stay here until everything clears in the town square, then you can go home," Dragon immediately held onto the shoulder of Smoker.
The boy flinched when Dragon touched his shoulder and remained still as he looked at the rushing people. He also had the opportunity to eavesdrop on the conversation between Dragon and Boris.
"So....What do you think?" Dragon asked.
"Nothing much; times are destined to change. This is no better; if they're worthy, I'll see them in the New World," Boris replied, "by the way, why did you go out of the way to watch the execution with me?"
"I owed you a favor, so I figured I would pay you back by guiding you around the execution. Look, it seems that the Marine's attention is solely fixated on you," Dragon pointed out.
Sure enough, the young Smoker looked up to the Marines, only to find them all glaring at Boris and Dragon wearily.
"I guess it's time for us to leave the island then," Boris remarked.
"Will they let you?" Dragon asked. The wind slowly began to swell up underneath his cloak.
As Dragon slowly began to disappear, the only words that came out of Boris' mouth were 'I'll see'
The young Smoker was terrified; he felt it in his bones that something bad would happen if he stayed next to this man.
Boris looked down on the child before asking.
"Why are you still here? Do you have a death wish?" Boris asked.
Smoker was too terrified to answer. His feet trembled as he slowly backed away from the Storm Dragon.
"Brat, what more do you have to do here?" A sharp voice boomed behind young Smoker.
Garp landed right behind Smoker before grasping his shoulders gently.
"You should run home, child; this isn't a place for you to be in," Garp softly pushed Smoker away from the premises.
"I suggest that you follow the same route as well, brat. The other Marines won't be as forgiving as I am," Garp threatened Boris coldly.
Boris didn't say anything but instead looked at the corpse of the Pirate King. His blood had already leaked out of him and had now formed a small puddle on the wooden planked floors. The blood leaked through the planks.
