Chapter 53: System Check
Elin glanced at Elmo, Kim, and Jonas in turn. She wondered what she should expect in relation to her stats. Especially since she hadn't been involved in the fight in any way, other than being on standby for when Jonas got Heather and Sonya back. Not that there was anything she could do after that, since Jonas took so long.
Elin wondered if she should talk with Kim about what she should do with her stats if she did gain levels. Such as where she should allocate her attribute points, but decided against it after a minute. Kim would be needing time to focus on her stats and couldn't take time to deal with Elin's.
Sighing, she walked a little away from the group and leaned against the wall. "Status," Elin said quietly.

You have 20 attribute points to allocate. Would you like to place them?
Elin looked at her stats. Even with her dress that helped restore her MP, she wasn't as full as she thought she'd be. Which meant she probably should do something about that.
So, she added 8 to her Int and Wis with the remaining 4to her Mag. Which changed her MP to 56. Although, she was still down 9 MP from her max.
However, she was hapy about the increase. Plus, with her Mag improved, now her healing might also be stronger. She was about to close her stats when a message replaced the notice about her outstanding attribute points.
You can learn a new magic skill/spell. Would you like to choose or see the options?
"Sure," Elin said quietly, wondering what the list might contain.
Life Attribute – Regenerate – 12 MP – prerequisites: Mag 28, Level 5, Int 28, Wis 28
Life Attribute – HP Transfer – 1 MP – prerequisites: Int 25, Wis 25
Improved Resistance – prerequisites; Level 5, Wis 25
Life Attribute – Restore Drain – MP 7 – prerequisites: Int 25, Wis 25
MP Transfer – 2 stamina – prerequisites: MP 50, level 4, Int 25
Enhanced Mastery – prerequisites: Mag 20, Int 20, Wis 20, level 5
You can learn three of these skills.
Elin looked at the skills and chose Enhanced Mastery without a second thought before she considered the other skills. She didn't think she cared for the MP Transfer or the HP Transfer, but she couldn't be sure if passing those by would be her best choice.
"Tutorial," Elin said quietly, hoping this wouldn't take too long.
"Would you tell me what these skills are about?" Elin asked, hoping she wouldn't get the responses of the information being restricted or something.
Elin shook her head, even though she doubted the voice knew what she was doing. "No, thank you," Elin said, then sighed as she looked at the skills.
HP and MP Transfer certainly sounded like they might be useful, but she decided that she should get the other skills/spells first. Though, what pulled her interest most was Regenerate and Improved Resistance.
If she was in combat, an increased resistance to her physical resistance would certainly help, although she wasn't exactly sure how it worked. However, she at least knew she'd get some benefit from an increased magical resistance.

Jonas sat in the corner of the room, as he said, "Status."

Abilities:
Shadow Merge II – 4mp initial, 1mp each minute 59/200
Crippling Strike – 6 stamina 45/100
You have 25 attribute points to allocate. Would you like to place them?
Jonas examined his stats. What he needed most was more stamina as well as more MP. His Shadow Merge was rather useful, but incredibly limited with how much MP he had. Although, at the moment, there wasn't really much need for his Shadow Merge, but he couldn't say that it wouldn't be necessary in the future to use it.
However, his lack of stamina could have killed him last night, as he'd essentially been rendered unconscious because he'd ran out. Then he also wasn't any help with the rest of the fight, although, as he considered it, he probably used up the bulk of his stamina against that goblin that nearly killed him.
So, as he thought about it, he decided to add 11 points to his Endurance and Vit, which brought his stamina up to 48. Which should keep him from wearing himself out so much. Then he added the remaining 3 points to his Int. Which also brought his MP to 23, although he still was missing 14 of his MP max, but at least it was an increase.
Then, as soon as he'd finished allocating the points, another message appeared. In place of the message telling him about his attribute points.
You can learn a new skill. Would you like to choose or see the options?
Jonas sighed. "Tutorial," he said, wishing this whole thing was easier to understand without needing explanations, or that the explanations would come without needing to ask about them.
"Tell me about the skills I can learn," Jonas said. After all, he was going to need to hear the explanation of them anyway, so why read it over when he can just skip to the explanations, as that would still let him know what the options were anyway.
Jonas thought for a minute after he was certain the chipper voice was finished. A number of those skills sounded rather useful, but he couldn't be sure if he was allowed to pick just one or if he could learn more.
"How many of those skills can I pick? And where do I find what the prerequisites are?" Jonas asked.
"Check your stats. The information would be at the end of the list of skills available to choose from," the voice replied.
Jonas sighed in annoyance. He'd hoped to avoid having to look at that, but it was at least good to know that he wouldn't be allowed to just skip that step in the future.
So, as he tapped the question on his status screen, he looked at the list of skills available.
Improved Stamina – prerequisites: deplete your stamina once, Endurance 20
Boomerang Blade – 2 stamina, 1 MP – prerequisites: Dex 20, Agi 15, Level 5
Magic Sense – prerequisites: Int 15, Wis 15, Level 7
Stat Debuff Resistance – prerequisites: Vit 20, Endurance 20, Level 5
Shadow Sight – prerequisites: Wis 15, Vit 20, Level 7, Shadow Merge II learned
You can learn three of these skills.
Jonas had to admit as he looked at the list, it wasn't as useless as he had thought, but he still would have preferred to have the tutorial explain it to him.
Sighing, he selected Shadow Sight, Boomerang Blade, and Magic Sense.
Magic Sense could help him learn more about locations of other secret rooms that hadn't been found yet, and Shadow Sight certainly would help during the night. Then Boomerang Blade would be good for the simple fact that it was an attack skill and he only had one other attack skill.

Kim didn't bother moving from where she had sat. She also didn't mind Heather and Sonya being around her as she checked her stats. After all, she could talk with the tutorial part of her system without speaking, so it didn't bother her to be around others while doing that. Especially girls who were as pretty as those two.

Kim sighed as she looked over her stats. While she'd like to improve her damage dealing abilities, she wondered if maybe she should also consider working at improving her skills that require stamina. Though, she couldn't be sure if it would help her that much.
Eventually, as she thought about it, she finally decided to put 7 points on her Vit and Endurance and the remaining 11 points on her Str. Which brought her stamina to 63, nearly doubling it, and her HP to 116.
Satisfied, she was able to leave it when she noticed a new message replace the stat allocation message.
You can learn a new skill. Would you like to choose or see the options?
[Tutorial,] Kim thought, wondering if she'd have the options she hadn't chosen earlier as options again.
[What options do I have for choosing a new skill?]
Kim sighed. Was it because she'd improved her unarmed combat skill enough that she'd been able to unlock the skills then? It would be a reason she could accept, although it would still be rather annoying. Sighing, she looked at the list. She'd get the descriptions later if she felt she needed to.
Unarmed Disarm – 3 stamina – prerequisites: Str 19, Dex 19, Unarmed Combat III
Weapon Throw – 4 stamina – prerequisites: Str 20 Dex 18, Unarmed Combat III
Dodging Strike – 2 stamina each dodge – prerequisites: Dex 19, Agi 19, Unarmed Combat III
Devastating Blow – prerequisites: Str 30, Endurance 25, stamina 45, Level 6
Stamina Armor – prerequisites: Endurance 25, Vit 25, Level 7
Iron Skin – prerequisites: Vit 25, Stamina 60, critical damage received at least one time previously
You can learn two of these skills.
[Tutorial, would you explain the skills you haven't already explained to me?] Kim asked, wanting to deal with this as little as possible.
As Kim thought about what the descriptions were, she wondered idly what options the others in her group had. Pushing that thought aside a moment later, she focused on the options before her.
It didn't take long before she selected Stamina Armor and Dodging Strike. She liked the Stamina Armor because that could potentially save her life if something happens to her. Especially if she was caught off guard.
Looking up from her screen, she looked around and when she saw Elin was still working on her stats, Kim merely sat back and waited for her to finish. She had time to wait, since she didn't want to leave without Elin.
