Chapter 51 – Side Story 6
On a winter’s late night, the Margrave quietly opened the door to the bedroom. He had been busy with work and it had become very late, so he thought Clarisse might already be asleep.

“Jean-sama! Welcome back.”

“I realized something while talking with Mary today…”

While brushing her soft, silky hair, he urged her to continue.
“I’m sure that next year, a new family member will join us.”
His hand stopped abruptly.
“I had a feeling for a while now…but talking with Mary confirmed it. I’m certain.”
“Clarisse…”
His heart filled with emotion, and he tightly embraced his beloved wife, quickly releasing his grip out of concern for the baby in her belly.
“Are you happy, Jean-sama?”
It seemed to him that Clarisse’s usually thoughtful and melodious voice trembled slightly.
“Of course I’m happy…my dear wife is pregnant…well done, Clarisse.”
His own voice as he answered seemed to tremble as well.
Jean drew her face closer in the darkness and gently kissed her.
Darn it, why did I extinguish the candlelight? Jean regretted. He couldn’t see her face, but he knew without looking that Clarisse was smiling, so he decided to be satisfied with that.
“I love you, Clarisse.”
“I love you, Jean-sama.”
From then until the new family member arrived, the servants of the Margrave’s residence watched their master attend to his beloved wife like loyal servants, sometimes with overly protective behavior, always watching over her with warm eyes.
