Chapter 82: [82] The New Student Council
Chapter 82: The New Student Council
"Refusing the president twice in a row? You're going too far!"
Before Kirari Momobami could say a word, her ever-loyal secretary, Sayaka, exploded with indignation, angrily reprimanding the offender.
Shunsuke found this incredibly annoying.
---The boss hasn't even spoken yet, and here you are jumping in twice. What's your rush? Do you think you have any place in this conversation? Know your role.
If it were an attractive girl who fit Shunsuke's type, he might have let it slide.
After all, this is a world where appearances matter, and he wasn't about to deny others the same privileges he enjoyed.
But Sayaka wasn't remotely his type.
Tilting his head slightly, Shunsuke turned to Kirari.
"Momobami-senpai, does this secretary belong to you?"
Kirari smiled faintly. "No, Sayaka is a beloved subordinate who chose to follow me on her own."
"I see. Then, little secretary, how about a gamble? If I lose, I'll show utmost respect to Momobami-senpai from now on. But if you lose, you'll never speak to or meet with Momobami-senpai again. Deal?"
Sayaka fell silent immediately.
What a joke! Runa now spends her days as a cat. Only an idiot would gamble under these circumstances.
"If you don't dare to gamble, then know your place. Think carefully about whether you even have the right to interrupt before you speak."
Chastised, Sayaka gritted her teeth but said nothing.
Though Shunsuke was undeniably arrogant, Kirari had her own magnetic charm.
After spending so much time close to her, Sayaka had become utterly dependent on her presence. There was no way she would take such a gamble.
"Alright, don't bully Sayaka," Kirari intervened to defuse the tension and redirect the conversation. "Can I at least ask why, Shunsuke? Aren't you also enjoying the thrill of gambling?"
"I think it's better if Momobami-senpai doesn't know the reason."
"Why? Is it something you can't say?"
"No, it's just that I take particular delight in saying 'NO' to people who think too highly of themselves."
"..."
With no more interruptions from Sayaka, an awkward silence descended over the student council room.
Even Kaede, who was secretly plotting to overthrow Kirari Momobami's rule, stared at Shunsuke in disbelief.
---Where did this student come from? This level of audacity is off the charts.
"Haha, hahahaha! You're a lunatic too, Shunsuke Fujii, right? I like you!" Midari Ikishima suddenly burst into laughter. "How about it? Let's gamble! You like betting on women's lives and usage rights, don't you? No problem—if you win, I'll be yours!"
"I'm not a lunatic. Also, I'm not interested in ugly women."
Shunsuke's expression was one of pure disdain as he took in Midari's manic grin and the piercings on her face and tongue. This woman hit every one of his "strike zones" for undesirable traits, so he rejected her outright.
"Tch."
Kaede couldn't hold back a chuckle. He had long been annoyed by this crazy, unattractive woman.
"You're certainly an interesting person, Shunsuke," Kirari said, looking at him with intrigue. "If you really don't want to transfer, that's fine. Since you enjoy saying 'NO' to people full of themselves, how about joining the student council?"
"...Isn't that a bit of a leap? I'm not even a student here."
"That doesn't matter. As long as I agree, it's fine."
As mentioned before, in Hyakkaou Academy, Kirari's authority was absolute.
Shunsuke rested his chin on Runa's small head. "You seem pretty persistent about this, offering such great perks. What's this about, Momobami-senpai? Did you take a liking to me?"
"Emmmm, if it's Momobami-senpai… I guess it wouldn't be so bad."
Kirari's smile didn't falter. "That's one way to put it. When I first met you, I did take a liking to you. I could feel it—it was fate, a destined meeting."
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Behind Kirari, Sayaka was gritting her teeth so hard they audibly creaked.
"Since Momobami-senpai insists, I have no choice but to join," Shunsuke said with a playful shrug. "However—" He raised a finger. "You can't force me to show up every day. Freedom is the most important thing."
"No problem," Kirari nodded. "I'll give you as much freedom as possible. But you'll need to come at least once a week and participate in at least one gamble. I need you to stir up this stagnant pond."
"If that's all you're asking, then I accept." Shunsuke extended his right hand. "Looking forward to working together."
Kirari paused for a moment, then extended her own hand, shaking his. "Welcome aboard."
Unlike most people, Kirari's hand was soft and smooth, completely free of calluses.
It was as if she lived in a world untouched by harsh realities, much like the perfect fantasy of a two-dimensional character.
"Wait, President, this is way too rash!" Kaede interjected, his tone fraught with disbelief. "Hyakkaou Academy has never had such an unprecedented—"
"Silence."
Kaede's words died in his throat. Though he dreamed of usurping the president's position, in reality, he lacked the courage to challenge Kirari directly.
Kirari turned her gaze to him, her tone cold and dismissive. "Kaede, if you don't agree, then follow the rules of Hyakkaou Academy. Challenge Shunsuke to a gamble and wager your position as the student council treasurer."
Kirari addressed everyone by name, looking down on them all from her position of absolute authority.
Kaede, though visibly displeased, said nothing further.
Cold sweat ran down his back. Known for his cautious nature, he never acted recklessly.
His eyes darted to his subordinate, Itsuki Sumeragi, clearly deciding to use her to test the waters first.
Ambitious yet cowardly, ready to risk others for small gains but too scared to risk himself. A perfect example of someone aiming high but fragile as paper.
Kirari glanced around the room, ensuring there were no further objections. Satisfied, she nodded. "Since no one opposes, it's settled."
"By the way, Shunsuke, are you planning to keep holding my hand forever?" Kirari asked with a subtle smile.
"Ah, my apologies, my apologies. I couldn't help but get lost in Momobami-senpai's graceful presence," Shunsuke replied, his explanation dripping with insincerity.
Kaede, the only other male in the room, silently watched Shunsuke shamelessly take advantage of the situation, even daring to hold Kirari's hand for so long.
Though he deeply disliked this sudden and unpredictable intruder, he couldn't help but feel a sliver of admiration.
This guy's guts… unbelievable. Was he reborn as a lustful spirit or what?
Kirari, unfazed, returned to her seat. "Now then, let's welcome our new member. Moving forward, I trust everyone will get along splendidly—and compete to the fullest."
At Hyakkaou Academy, the definition of "getting along" was certainly unique.
The room erupted in polite applause, everyone playing their part in welcoming the newcomer.
"Well, that concludes today's meeting. Dismissed," Kirari announced.
Shunsuke, carrying Runa in his arms, prepared to leave. Enough time wasted.
This victory, won at the cost of everything I had, is not something to squander.
Every minute lost feels like wasting half a month!
As Kirari's eyes fell on Runa, who was tensely clinging to her composure, she whispered softly, "Runa, I hope you have a wonderful evening."
At that subtle remark, Runa immediately abandoned any thoughts of playing dead.
Shunsuke gave Kirari a thumbs-up as he headed for the door.
"Oh, by the way," Shunsuke suddenly remembered something and turned back. "If any interesting transfer students show up, please let me know, Kirari-senpai."
Kirari's smile widened slightly. "So even you find it intriguing? Very well, I'll inform you right away."
