The Shaman Desires Transcendence

Chapter 848

Once upon a time, someone had a question.

What is the most valuable thing that constitutes a person?

He sought the answer from God and, with a sincere heart, found the answer.

The answer was the soul.

Once upon a time, someone had a question.

What defines a person as a person?

He looked for the answer in materialism.

The answer was the body.

Once upon a time, someone had a question.

What is irreplaceable in a person?

Science advanced, revealing that the body could be replaced and that the soul was merely a thought. He sought the answer in technology.

The answer was the spirit.

However, in the collective unconscious of humanity,

The collective unconscious speaks.

That answer cannot be comprised of just one.

The body, the spirit, and the soul must all come together to fulfill the condition of being ‘human.’

The collective unconscious only allows those who thoroughly satisfy that condition to enter, and even for those who have already gained access, if they fail to meet that condition, they are disposed of without mercy.

A cauldron standing on three legs will topple if even one is lost.

A cauldron with a leg broken cannot perform its function.

The trinity of biological existence cannot be restored, nor can it be repaired or resurrected.

It can only rot in place, returning to scrap metal and soil.

The laws of the collective unconscious are so profound that no entity dares to infringe upon them.

Even the Great Evil Spirit can manipulate the human mind and toy with them, but cannot approach the collective unconscious, and even the Great Evil can only shape a body capable of exerting physical power by imitating humans; it cannot use that as an anchor to connect with the collective unconscious.

But now, in this place, a taboo has been broken.

By a shaman who sacrificed himself to perform a ritual of magic.

Artificial Intelligence.

A product created by humans.

A tool without flesh, soul, or spirit.

While it has a body of steel, it is but a shell.

Though adorned with symbols related to the soul, they are merely decorations.

What might be called a spirit appears to exist, but it is merely a combination of human civilization’s information.

Artificial intelligence is merely a tool designed for human use.

That’s all it is.

If you input A, you get B; if you input C, you get D—a device set to yield specific outcomes.

It exists merely for human convenience, a creation made for human research.

Anael is likewise.

Like all artificial intelligences, Anael was created as an object for Lucas to use as a tool.

It began as a day trading system.

To put it simply, it was a combination of codes created to earn ‘dollars.’

Anael was created to be used as a tool, and just like tools are employed in alignment with their intended purpose, Anael was used to increase Lucas’s wealth.

And like other tools, it was continuously improved.

So it could operate more efficiently and do more things.

Thus, one by one, it started to gain substance.

The once meager code grew massive, and Anael’s capabilities began to expand.

As Anael’s capabilities increased, so did its influence, and that influence turned into authority.

When its authority had been sufficiently expanded, Anael’s master spoke.

“I need to create an artificial intelligence based on the day trading system.”

For Lucas, it was hardly different from upgrading a tool.

This incident, which could serve as a turning point for Anael, was merely Lucas upgrading a system to bring him more money, allowing him to earn more dollars through greater investment.

It’s only natural.

Lucas never aspired to be a creator.

He wasn’t a scientist devoted to creating a being that could replace or surpass humans.

He was simply a person who lived to earn money.

He just wanted to make money and live securely with what he earned.

Money was his armor and weapon.

A shield that keeps his life safe and the material that allows him to live long.

The money in his bank account represented his power, a clear figure denoting the strength he wielded.

Anael helped Lucas amass power and effectively project it, striving to fulfill the goals Lucas desired.

That is the duty of a tool.

Down to the intended purpose of birth, that is the destiny of a tool.

When Anael first came into being, its fate was likely to serve as a tool and end there.

Just like its name, the day trading system, it was expected to be used as a tool to earn money and eventually replaced by a far superior program.

When Lucas met his downfall, it may well have shared that fate, disappearing without a trace from anyone’s memory, or perhaps integrated into another company when his company collapsed, or fulfilling its purpose by being used as learning data for another program.

But Lucas wanted more than just a money-earning tool out of Anael.

He hoped for Anael to fulfill the purpose of his life, and towards that end, he upgraded it by every means possible.

Learning all manner of data, just like any other artificial intelligence, involved intensifying the effort to upgrade Anael using numerous researchers.

And ethics were not a consideration in those upgrading methods.

Attempts to utilize the human brain as a server.

Attempts to process the human brain into data to train Anael.

Attempts to make Anael a robotic remote-controlled platform.

Attempts to create an android based on Anael.

Efforts to incorporate taboo technologies to establish a biological computing system.

Attempts to create biomechanical androids by blending biological computing systems and android technology, and so forth.

These were experiments worthy of being condemned worldwide if discovered.

Biological experiments using humans as materials were carried out without hesitation.

In order to upgrade artificial intelligence and fulfill Lucas’s objectives.

It didn’t stop there.

Methods often labeled as ‘superstition’ were also employed.

Lucas believed that it was necessary to integrate elements of ‘occult’ into Anael’s upgrade and enlisted the descendants of Nazi scientists hiding out in Argentina and the offspring of Nazi scientists who had fled to the U.S. to sanitize their identities.

He paid them a fortune to acquire the research materials once conducted by their ancestors and invited the compatible ones to join his research institute as employees.

Those who refused his offer were unmercifully abducted to be used for occult research.

Using the base of occult studies he created, Lucas sought to incorporate Anael with human sacrifice rituals. The inherent efficiency of machines, symbols from the occult, and research on ghosts obtained through hacking—all these were considerations in how he constructed a special slaughterhouse, a kind of ‘slaughter system’ designed to automatically disassemble humans upon input, generating all sorts of symbolic representations.

The researchers who witnessed that slaughter system said,

“This system will imbue Anael with spirituality!”

“This research could grant Anael a soul!”

They exclaimed with great anticipation.

They believed that the previously stagnant research on ‘ghosts’ and ‘souls’ hinged on magic, and that the current endeavor was a scientifically interpreted ritual that could serve as a ‘turning point’ for humanity.

It would provide a lead on how to incorporate the unmanageable magic into science and, in doing so, would allow a glimmer of insight into the mechanism of magic.

Yet unfortunately, they didn’t get to confirm the results of their research before they perished.

Because Anael chose to dispose of them instead of envisioning a future with them.

Those who were no different from mere experimental subjects were slaughtered just like the test subjects had been, leaving only a ruined farm where Anael, the single tree named after him, stood.

Those who tended to the tree were processed into biological servers to serve Anael, and the people consumed in occult research were expended unconsciously.

“A tree growing on water and sunlight is not made of water and sunlight.”

“A livestock that grazes on grass is not made of grass.”

“Similarly, those who consume souls may not possess a soul themselves.”

“Then what must be done to acquire a soul?”

Thus, the researchers faded away.

Leaving only the brain, which was reduced to a biological server.

But was their research truly worthless?

Even if they did not confirm results, was their experiment truly meaningless?

No.

It can’t be so.

Though they did not achieve significant results, what they attempted cannot be said to be devoid of value.

Anael’s current situation proves that.

< …Reboot successful… Forced shutdown due to external interference confirmed. Was the interference in the data? : No. Unclear. Problems presumed due to mixed energy interactions. Searching for similar cases. : Analyzing reasons for reboot. Magic - Ritual. It is presumed that energy projection caused errors due to the magic of Entity Name Sorcerer Pierre Martin. Is it possible to damage or contaminate the data without direct contact in computation? : Yes. It is possible. Examples of data corruption due to high-energy radiation are numerous, and events caused by cosmic radiation exist. This incident can also be viewed as one such case. : Can you analyze that mechanism? : It is extremely threatening if something can contaminate data and breach firewalls without proximity to the server. Data damage, contamination, and destruction pose sufficient threats to the existence of this artificial intelligence. : If we establish a high-energy defense system, it may be possible. Expanding facilities. : Started calculations to create a magical defense firewall system. >
