The Regressed Game Director Is Too Competent

Chapter 28

In the Girls’ Memorial Community, there is a post that consistently appears.

[Title: Office Wishes for Operator on Day 45]

【Image of Operator making a heart with her hands on her neutral face】

To be honest, I’m not asking for something too hard, am I?

Is it right that we can’t even raise the game’s mascot?

No, I’m not wishing for the office, just give me the chance to gift Operator a little favor!

-Ah, crazy lolicon kid is at it again lololol

-Please, just hold your breath for 3 minutes lololol

-But honestly, this is a valid point

-If we had a popularity vote, Operator always ranks high, it is kind of sad lololol

That post was similar to the one above, a wish for Operator to have her own office, featuring the game’s mascot.

Even without such wish posts, many Girls’ Memorial gamers wanted the operator to have an office.

Jae-hyun was one of these gamers wishing for Operator’s office.

Truthfully, Jae-hyun hadn’t initially chosen Operator as his favorite character.

Back when he attended the Tokyo Game Show, he believed his favorite character was Karin, who guided him to the booth.

In fact, during the first reroll phase, he even prioritized picking Karin.

However, the more he played the game, the more his heart leaned not towards Karin, but towards Operator.

The mascot’s striking platinum blonde hair and star-dotted white eyes created a striking appearance.

And the juxtaposition of her elementary school-aged form against her emotionless personality perfectly matched Jae-hyun’s preferences.

But even as time passed after the game’s release, there was no mention of any updates about Operator.

At a time when it felt like only fans who loved Operator were suffering, a video was uploaded to the Girls’ Memorial official YouTube account.

[Title: What’s this on YouTube? An Operator Channel?]

Just from the thumbnail, it looks like a new Operator-related video was uploaded?

I just saw this now, so I’m going to check it out.

-Holy heck, is Operator finally getting an office? lololol

-The Operator boom has begun! lololol

-I’m checking it out too dddd

-Where’s that guy who was always putting up posts wishing for Operator’s office? lol

-He must be so happy! lololol

When Jae-hyun saw this, he instinctively followed the video link.

The video started not with the usual logos of Enson GT or SFLAG but with the World Tree of Girls’ Memorial.

As the users of Girls’ Memorial know, the first scene they encounter upon accessing the game is the administrator’s office.

With a soothing BGM, the camera slowly panned around the office, illuminating various areas until it finally zoomed in on something.

What came into focus was the administrator’s chair — or more precisely, Operator who had fallen asleep, reclining in it.

At first, only a portion of Operator’s platinum hair could be seen from behind the chair.

As the camera rotated slowly towards Operator, her figure gradually came into view.

When the camera finally stopped, the entire image of the sleeping Operator was shown clearly.

But was it because of the slight presence of the camera?

The sleeping Operator woke up slowly, opening her eyes halfway and glancing around.

Then, upon noticing the camera, she rubbed her eyes and spoke.

“Connection confirmed. Good morning… Administrator.”

The screen swiftly transitioned after that, showing the familiar office scene with the administrator’s chair in its normal place and a now fully awake Operator standing.

“Do you feel surprised at suddenly seeing me here, unlike usual?”

Operator, upon realizing there was no immediate reaction from her surroundings, took a step forward towards the camera and whispered softly.

“Are you surprised?”

At that moment, one of the options in the choice box that appeared on the screen was automatically selected to indicate surprise.

The operator accepted this selection as an answer.

“Understood. Now, I, Operator, will begin transmitting the program of a brand-new planning called the Operator Channel.”

At that moment, she detonated fireworks with her usual expressionless face.

“The reason for this planning is to directly invigorate the administrators who feel that the assistance I provide under usual conditions is insufficient.”

When her dialogue ended, the screen transitioned again.

Operator approached the front of the camera. Holding it steadily with both hands, she continued.

“How about it, Administrator? Do you feel excited?”

Once again, a choice box appeared in front of the screen.

The choice that expressed expectation was selected, and a faint smile appeared on the operator’s typically expressionless face.

“I also look forward to the time I will spend together with the Administrator.”

With those words, she bowed slightly.

“Although today is just the start, I will relay various information and different sides of me, Operator, going forward. Please look forward to it.”

At the end of her speech, she raised her hands and waved.

“Then, I wish to meet again sometime. Administrator.”

With the operator’s final line, the video ended.

After watching the entire video, Jae-hyun stared at the screen blankly for a while, unable to think of anything.

He shook himself out of it, and immediately accessed the community to share his emotions with everyone.

When he entered, he found that many other players who had similar experiences were expressing themselves with a shared sentiment of excitement.

[Title: I’m in the video industry, but looking at this video objectively, the quality is insane]

【A GIF showing Operator moving towards the camera】

I was always amazed by the quality of the Operator 3D model, which seemed to have been torn straight from an illustration.

Originally, converting a 2D character into a 3D model is quite challenging.

As I watched, and being a professional in the video line, my eyes were drawn more to the motion than the modeling.

For it to be this natural, it seems as though they’ve used motion capture, rather than making animations.

If this is the case, then Enson is clearly investing a lot of resources.

Typically, several cameras are set up and many sensors are attached to a person who performs the motion which is then captured for production.

It’s obvious that the production costs would be astronomical. As far as I know, this is mostly used in Hollywood films.

It never occurred to me that motion capture would be used in game-related videos.

-I don’t really know what you’re saying, but basically Enson is amazing, right?

Yup yup!

[Title: Test of Public Opinion…jpg]

【A video photo of Jihojin in a suit bowing his head】

Jihojin<< If you want me to direct Girls' Memorial for the rest of my life, you'll have to make me blush lol

On a day in early November,

After the Operator Channel project, which made us all so frustrated, wrapped up successfully, it’s been a month.

During this time, the Operator Channel has released up to episode 4, and each latest episode has received enthusiastic support from "lolicon" administrators, driving its views up sky high.

Even the employees who proposed the plan and Seol-i were shocked at this level of success.

To the extent that the first episode of the Operator Channel surpassed my official apology video to become the most popular video on the official channel.

Does that mean Girls' Memorial, the main game, struggled in popularity?

It didn’t.

First, the successful launch of the Android version.

Following the success of the first event and then the Halloween event, they managed to secure the number one spot in the monthly sales rankings of both major app markets.

When the game reached this point of great success, what was I doing?

I was sitting in a private office, playing a game on my smartphone.

The game I'm playing right now is Idol Fairy: Cinderella Lady, commonly abbreviated to Shindeperé.

Before my regression, this game was a massive hit utilizing the intellectual property of a root idol game.

To be precise, I thought the mobile version would only officially launch a few years from now…

But, sensing the sweet smell of honey in the mobile game market due to the extreme success of Girls' Memorial, they decided to bring the release forward.

Similar to Inmil'a but... I have no major concerns anyway.

Even though the mobile version hasn’t officially launched, Shindeferé was largely played by mobile users.

However, since Girls' Memorial consistently ranked higher than Shindeferé in both popularity and sales on the mobile market charts,

I don’t expect that much to change with the official mobile release.

As I was enjoying Shindeperé without too much worry, the door to my office opened, and in came Yerin.

"Senior, you called me?"

"Eh, yeah. You're here?"

"Yes, I came since you called me... What are you doing?"

"This? Playing a game. Do you want to try?"

"Which game is it?"

After saying that, I handed Yerin the smartphone, just as I was playing it.

"Ah, it's Shindeferé. Are you a producer too, Senior?"

"Nope?"

"Then why...?"

"Since I heard the official mobile version is coming, I thought I'd give it a try. Turns out, it’s quite fun."

Yerin briefly touched the screen, seemed to lose interest, and returned the smartphone to me.

"Speaking of which, you still haven’t told me why you called me..."

"Ah, right. Yerin."

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry to ask this... Would you mind doing one more cosplay?"
