Chapter 8
“What a sudden question? I was never like that. Maybe you made a mistake because you were drunk?”
Wonhyeok paused, cleared his throat, and said. He spoke and acted casually as usual, as if he had never looked tense.
“Really?”
“If I had known, of course I would have reported it.”
Wonhyeok winked and smiled, and Hangeom slowly nodded in response.
“Want to eat? I’ll go to the bathroom.”
“Yes.”
While Wonhyeok took his phone and walked to the corner of the restaurant, Hangeom reverently finished the pasta that he had personally put on his plate. It seems he heard a voice in the alley saying something about a name, but it must have been his imagination.
Well, if the senior says no, then it’s no. Hangeom’s face quickly relaxed from the taste of the pasta melting in his mouth.
“That guy at the second table in the back?”
“Oh, did you see him?”
At this moment, voices came from the neighboring table. Since “the second table in the back” clearly referred to where he was sitting, Hangeom naturally turned his head and saw two women having an animated conversation with flushed faces.
“He’s really the most handsome of all I’ve seen lately.”
“Get his number.”
“Ah, he must have a girlfriend. With a face like that.”
“Hey, it doesn’t hurt to try. Try asking before he leaves.”
“Maybe I should?”
The woman smiled shyly. Long black straight hair, snow-white face, big eyes, and a mole under the right eye. Even to Hangeom, she looked very beautiful.
Although in elementary school they were taught not to judge a person’s type by appearance, in reality, type was quite easily determined by appearance and body shape. Just as nine out of ten people seeing Wonhyeok would immediately identify him as an alpha.
Probably this woman is most likely an omega. Hangeom instinctively touched his plain face and buried himself in his plate again. Probably in their eyes, he, sitting at the table with Wonhyeok now, didn’t look like his boyfriend. This was quite natural. Next to such a shining person, a plain gray person simply couldn’t attract attention.
Moreover, according to a fairly well-known fact, alphas and omegas have some kind of instinctive attraction to each other. Although there was no scientific basis for this, psychologically this hypothesis was quite significant, and many books and research papers were published on this topic.
Hangeom felt a slight sadness thinking about himself – a beta who is often mistaken for an omega due to his fragile physique.
“Why aren’t you eating?”
“I… I was eating.”
Soon Wonhyeok returned, and they continued eating. Since they had common topics for conversation due to the club and faculty, it wasn’t difficult to find a topic for discussion. Therefore, the conversation went smoothly, without pauses. Of course, several times Wonhyeok frowned, looking back, but overall there were no problems.
“I’m full. Thanks to Hangeom, I ate deliciously.”
“It’s nothing compared to what you did for me, senior.”
Wonhyeok started clearing the table as if preparing to leave. By the way, I wonder if that woman who showed interest in Wonhyeok will approach now to ask for his number? It seems there’s a sound of a chair being pushed back from behind.
“Hangeom.”
“Yes?”
Hangeom was pondering whether Wonhyeok would give his number, or maybe he should leave to make room, when Wonhyeok suddenly called his name.
“Could you take off your glasses and sit next to me for a minute?”
“Ah, glasses?”
“Yes.”
Hangeom carefully put the glasses that Wonhyeok bought him today on the table and moved to the adjacent seat. Although he didn’t understand the reason, he felt he should do as he was told.
As soon as he sat down, feeling awkward, Wonhyeok suddenly reached out and sharply pushed back Hangeom’s bangs.
“Uh…”
When the view cleared, the bright light of the restaurant illuminated Hangeom’s face. Wonhyeok didn’t stop there and with his other hand slightly brushed Hangeom’s cheek. His heart started racing wildly. His vision even spun as if he was walking on a rubber floor. At this moment, when Hangeom was completely confused, not understanding what was happening, his gaze met with that of the woman approaching the table.
Without glasses, he couldn’t see clearly, but judging by the silhouette, it was definitely that beautiful woman who had shyly smiled earlier, saying something about a phone number.
When the woman saw Hangeom’s face, which Wonhyeok was touching, her face changed from expectation to disappointment. She even seemed to mutter “Ah, what’s this?” by the movement of her lips. Then she turned around and left without hesitation.
“Senior, w-why did you do that?”
“There was sauce here.”
Wonhyeok glanced in the direction where the woman had gone, and then smirked with satisfaction.
“Now it’s all. Shall we go?”
“Ah, yes!”
By the way, when did sauce get on me? And I was talking to Wonhyeok looking like that. Hangeom, embarrassed, habitually lowered his bangs, put his glasses back on, and stood up following Wonhyeok. He was very surprised. So that’s what it was, Wonhyeok just wanted to wipe something off his face. But why did he lift his bangs?
Worried that he might have gotten dirty on his forehead too, Hangeom paid and left the restaurant with Wonhyeok.
“Hey, why did you just come back?”
After the two left, at the table where the women who had shown interest in Wonhyeok were sitting, one was scolding the other who had returned empty-handed.
“You said he didn’t have a boyfriend. That it doesn’t hurt to try. But it turned out that person with him was his boyfriend!”
“Really? That guy with bangs down to here was his boyfriend?”
The woman mockingly raised the corners of her lips, looking at her friend who seemed unable to understand this.
“Didn’t you see? What a beautiful face that guy had? How can a man be so beautiful? It’s unfair. That’s why they say beautiful people date beautiful people.”
With these words, she, without even trying to get Wonhyeok’s number, sighed deeply, criticizing the problems of the cult of appearance.

Lately, Hangeom had been living with a feeling as if he had won the lottery. Since elementary school, he had never eagerly anticipated going to school. Perhaps it was because he considered school just a place for studying and an investment in the future.
But when he entered university, for the first time in his life, he started to like going to school. Because he could meet Wonhyeok. Of course, even so, he could only see his face when he was lucky, and there were weeks when they didn’t meet at all.
But now everything had changed.
“Kang Hangeom, hello.”
“Yes, hello.”
Taking a short deep breath, Hangeom opened the door of the club room, and as usual, Baek Woojin was the first to greet him. Inside, several other seniors, including Bae Seokwoo, could be seen.
“Hello, Hangeom. Did you just finish class?”
And among them was Wonhyeok. Sitting on the old couch, resting his chin on his hand, he looked like a model from a magazine, like a beautiful rose blooming in the middle of a dirty street.
“Yes.”
Hangeom smiled slightly and nodded energetically. Because of this, his thick hair again flew in different directions.
If before he had to run around the cafeteria, lounge, and other places to see Wonhyeok’s face, now there was no need for that. Because Wonhyeok often appeared in the club room. And not only that.
A few days ago, he personally bought him glasses and treated him to lunch, apologizing. After that, when they accidentally met at the university, he often friendly spoke to him first. They also often ordered and ate lunch together in the club room. Of course, sometimes other club members were with them, but it didn’t matter much.
He even accompanied him when Hangeom went to get his ear wound treated. Then they also had lunch together after visiting the hospital.
That is, if someone asked: “Are you friends with senior Do Wonhyeok?”, one could answer: “Yes, we’re a bit friendly.” Their relationship had developed to such an extent. From someone who always quietly observed from afar, he had been “promoted” to the status of a “somewhat close junior.”
“Hey, why are you standing there so stupidly?”
“Ah, uh…”
Hearing Woojin’s reproach, Hangeom looked around. There were many free seats on the couch, but Hangeom wanted to sit next to Wonhyeok. Staring intently at that spot, Hangeom eventually shook his head slightly and sat down next to Woojin.
“…”
Wonhyeok, still resting his chin on his hand, stared intently at Hangeom as he sat down, putting his bag in another place.
“What did you eat for lunch?”
“I… just in the cafeteria.”
“I don’t like the food in our cafeteria, but you seem to eat it well.”
Woojin leaned towards Hangeom, who was taking a book and laptop out of his bag.
“This is a new issue, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. I’ll let you read it when I’m done.”
Woojin let out an admiring “Oh”, apparently recognizing the author of the book Hangeom had taken out. Taking advantage of the moment, he put his arm around Hangeom’s shoulders and started examining the book.
“Are you two close?”
Wonhyeok, who had been silently observing this scene, spoke.
“What?”
“You’re not from the same department, but you look very close.”
“Ah, yes, we’re close. Kang Hangeom and I have known each other since freshman year.”
“Really?” asked Woojin, and Hangeom slowly nodded. Like a dog responding to its owner’s words.
Wonhyeok’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“We met in this club, but Kang Hangeom is very shy. Probably if it weren’t for me, he’d be an outcast even in this club?”
Woojin laughed playfully and ruffled Hangeom’s hair. Because of this, Hangeom’s hair became disheveled, and for a moment his large eyes were visible.
“Even without you, I have Hyuna, so it’s okay.”
Hangeom didn’t react to Woojin’s joke at all. On the contrary, he seemed to take it as something natural and didn’t pay attention to it.
“…Hangeom, how are the glasses I bought? Are they not causing any discomfort?”
“Ah, no!”
When the topic of glasses came up, Hangeom automatically adjusted them. At this, his disheveled hair returned to its place.
By the way, it seems he asked this question last time too when they were leaving the optical store. It looks like Wonhyeok forgot about it.
“You bought him glasses, senior?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Woojin asked with obvious curiosity in his eyes.
“There were some circumstances.”
Although he was answering Woojin, his gaze was directed at Hangeom. When he smiled softly, Hangeom started nervously biting his lips and lowered his head. It was like a situation where two people meaningfully share something known only to them.
If this continues, he might faint from heart strain.
And a little later, Woojin, who had daytime classes left, and several other club members left the room. Other club members also disappeared one by one, apparently on their own business.
In the end, only Hangeom and Wonhyeok were left in the club room, just the two of them.
