The Prime Minister’s Little Wife

Chapter 47

Chapter 47: The Unique Treasure

Xu Chunhua, Xu Lanhua, and Xu Daniu returned with Xu Erniu, carrying seeds of wood ear mushrooms.

They crushed the seeds in a bucket, divided them into several bowls, and each held a bowl with a chopstick, ready to dot the buns with red marks.

Seeing the chaotic scene of people grabbing food, they were stunned.

They wondered where these refugees had come from!

The cousins had been waiting with their bowls for a long time to dot the buns with red.

But there were no buns left for them to mark!

Seeing his younger brother on the verge of tears, Xu Daniu put down his chopstick and bowl.

As soon as the eleventh pot of buns was ready, he grabbed it without a word and shared it with his cousins and siblings.

Xu Xiaowu finally got to taste a bun, and tears welled up in his eyes from satisfaction.

He had been so wronged earlier, but his sister wasn’t around, and his brother and cousins hadn’t returned yet. He and Xu Xiaohua were too small to fight for the buns!

His mother just stood there watching, not caring if he wanted to eat!

What could he do? He could only watch as they devoured the buns.

Now that his brother was back, he had given him a bun. He was so touched!

He wasn’t that hungry, as they had just eaten, but seeing others eat made him want to try one too!

For the past two months, their family had been eating meat, rice, and white flour every day. Xu Daniu had finally grown taller than the average fourteen-year-old.

Among the dozen or so children from the Li family, none were as tall as him. The second son of his eldest uncle, who was fifteen this year, was now shorter than Xu Daniu.

Old Lady Li, seeing Xu Daniu come in without greeting her and then snatching the buns, started shouting, “Dani, look at how you’ve raised your children! This Daniu has no manners at all. He just grabbed the buns and gave them to the Xu family girls. What do these worthless girls need to eat for?”

Old Lady Li conveniently forgot that her own grandchildren had been grabbing buns without sharing any with their cousins!

She had brought several granddaughters today. Were they not “worthless girls” when eating someone else’s food?

She was used to scolding her granddaughters at home, telling them to eat less and work more. Seeing other families’ girls eating made her want to scold them too.

Mother Xu, hearing her mother’s complaints, sternly said to her eldest son, “Daniu, how could you do that? Let your grandmother and the others eat first. You eat well at home every day. You shouldn’t act like this.”

Xu Daniu looked at his mother silently.

The Xu siblings, after eating one basket of buns, stopped.

With this pause, the dozen or so Li family children also felt stuffed!

They couldn’t eat anymore!

Old Lady Li continued to complain about Xu Daniu.

The Xu cousins picked up their bowls and chopsticks again.

They started dotting the buns with red marks. By dusk, they finally had a large pile.

After letting them cool, they packed the buns into pre-washed baskets.

They would be taken out tomorrow morning for the children to grab during the roof-raising ceremony.

Dinner time arrived, and everyone washed their hands and ate.

As usual, there were three meat dishes and two large bowls of stew.

But today, the food was especially fragrant.

Unfortunately, Old Lady Li and the children were already stuffed from the buns and couldn’t eat anymore!

But they still forced themselves to eat.

This was meat! How long had it been since they last ate meat?

Xu Zhizhi secretly laughed.

She wondered if their stomachs would burst from overeating!

But since they had stuffed themselves with buns first, not meat, their stomachs should be fine.

She thought it was better to avoid trouble.

If she said anything, her overbearing grandmother might accuse her of being stingy and unwilling to share food…

Old Lady Li waved her arms, continuously picking up meat to eat.

The Li grandchildren, while grabbing meat, glanced at Xu Zhizhi.

They were a little afraid of her.

Some people naturally exuded an invisible pressure and deterrence, making others uneasy.

Despite their fear, the meat was too delicious. They lowered their heads and ate voraciously.

Aunt Sun occasionally glanced at Xu Zhizhi, then at her second son, feeling more and more satisfied.

She hadn’t known that Xu Zhizhi had become so capable of earning money. Usually, when Mother Xu brought gifts to her parents’ home, they would take the gifts and hurry her back without offering a meal.

They had no idea that the Xu family had started earning money and building a house. They thought the Xu family was still as poor as before.

But after her sister-in-law returned and told them about the Xu family’s sudden wealth, they were shocked!

On the way here, they had asked Mother Xu how the family had earned money. Mother Xu, being honest and used to being exploited by her family, answered whatever Old Lady Li and Aunt Sun asked, as long as she knew.

Aunt Sun was a very shrewd and opportunistic person. When she learned that all the Xu family’s money had been earned by Xu Zhizhi, she felt a pang of regret.

When she entered the Xu family’s construction site and saw the nearly completed, large courtyard, her regret deepened.

Then, seeing Xu Zhizhi’s appearance, her regret became overwhelming. Suddenly, she thought of her second son and hatched a plan.

Now, as she carefully observed Xu Zhizhi, she liked her more and more. (All that shiny silver!)

Although Xu Zhizhi wasn’t overly enthusiastic, her attitude was calm. Her eating movements were elegant, and she worked efficiently. She was a hardworking person.

Xu Zhizhi had gone on 99 blind dates in her modern life!

She could sense the meaning behind Aunt Sun’s gaze.

She had felt it when they arrived, but after searching her memories, she knew.

Her eldest cousin in the Li family had already gotten married, and it happened on the very day she had transmigrated.

There were no suitable young men in the Li family.

She never would have dreamed that Aunt Sun would want her to marry her second son!

Aunt Sun, seeing so many people at dinner, decided to wait until evening to bring it up. She stuffed several pieces of meat into her mouth, her neck stretching as she swallowed.

After dinner, everyone prepared to wash up and sleep. With so many guests, Xu Zhizhi took her brother and went to stay with Second Uncle’s family.

There was no way she was going to help all these cousins wash up. Whether they washed or not was their problem. At most, she’d have to wash the bedding tomorrow.

Xu Zhizhi’s room didn’t have anything valuable anyway. All the good stuff was in her space.

After returning to the Xu family’s old house, Old Lady Li arranged the children into two rooms to sleep.

In the main room were Father Xu, Mother Xu, Old Lady Li, Aunt Sun, and her second son.

Aunt Sun said to Father Xu, “Brother-in-law, Dani, this is our second son, Li Er’gou. He’s one of the best young men in Li Village. Look how handsome he is…”

She praised him to the skies.

Old Lady Li instantly understood her daughter-in-law’s intentions.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law worked together to praise Li Er’gou, making him sound like a unique treasure, one of a kind in the world.

Li Er’gou, hearing his grandmother and mother praise him for the first time, though he didn’t know why, grinned foolishly.

Aunt Sun’s main point was that Xu Zhizhi, now blessed by the gods, might barely be worthy of such an outstanding young man.
