The Old Baseball Player System

Chapter 188: Responsibilities

Ryosuke noticed all the different looks directed at him. The boy knew very well that after his recent actions, most of the team probably didn't like him. Still, Ryosuke was determined to return to the team.

He took a step forward, breathing deeply to gather courage. Then he stood with his feet together and his arms tight against his body before bowing as low as he could toward the players of Shoto.

"I was wrong to offend my teammates and to be reckless and arrogant! I understand that you must hate me after the stupid things I said, but I am truly sorry! This past week, I've realized how frustrating it is not to be on the field playing baseball. I know you don't need me to win, but… I really want to return to the team and have a chance to play again!

I know many of you probably don't want to play with me anymore, and I understand that. All I can say is that I've changed and that I regret the things I did. But even if you don't want me on the team anymore... please forgive me!" - Ryosuke remained bowed as he spoke loudly and honestly, leaving all the Shoto players surprised.

No one expected such sincere apologies from the usually arrogant Ryosuke. But, of course, mere words weren't enough to erase the things he had done. Still, it was undeniably a good start.

"Well, as I've told you, none of you are obligated to accept his apology." - Coach Yamada said to the Shoto players as Ryosuke stood up.

"But considering the critical moment we're in, I'll let you make the decision. If anyone is against Ryosuke rejoining the team, please raise your hand. Even if only one person raises their hand, I won't let him return to the team!" - Coach Yamada spoke in a loud and serious tone, leaving everyone present extremely surprised by his approach.

Shun looked at Coach Yamada in surprise, but he understood the man's reasoning. The coach was likely worried about Ryosuke's return disrupting the team's chemistry, so he decided to leave the decision to the players.

Shun then glanced at his teammates. They all seemed surprised by the coach's decision but also thoughtful about the choice they now had to make. Shun looked at Ryosuke, who was clearly nervous and anxious, watching the line of players and hoping no one would raise their hand. At that moment, there was nothing more Ryosuke could do.

Seconds passed quickly as the Shoto players seriously considered their options. Yet, even after a minute, no hand had been raised. Coach Yamada observed the situation calmly and spoke again.

"Doesn't seem like anyone is against it?" - Coach Yamada asked calmly. Again, no one said anything.

"Well, it looks like you owe your teammates a thank you, Ryosuke. I'll let you return to practices and games, but don't expect to reclaim your starting position so easily." - Coach Yamada said firmly, turning to Ryosuke.

"Thank you!" - Ryosuke bowed again, sincerely thanking both the coach and his teammates. At that moment, Ryosuke was genuinely happy to have the chance to return to the team. As for his starting position, he wasn't concerned about that now.

"Alright, enough talking. Let's train!" - Coach Yamada shouted as he turned to his players.

"Yes, Coach!" - All the players shouted in response as Kenta led the line and started running laps around the field to warm up. Everyone followed Kenta, including Ryosuke, who ran enthusiastically behind his teammates.

The players ran for about 20 minutes before Kenta stopped, prompting everyone to stop as well. Soon after, they began preparing for batting practice while Coach Yamada called Kenta, Ren, and Shun over to talk.

"Please keep me informed about how the team feels regarding Ryosuke's return." - Coach Yamada requested as the three boys approached. Although no one had raised their hand against Ryosuke, it was clear that the team's atmosphere was still a bit tense, something Coach Yamada could sense. Because of this, he decided to trust the three senior players to handle the situation.

"Will do!" - Kenta responded determinedly, while Shun and Ren also nodded in agreement.

"Alright, I'm counting on you. You two can go back now." - Coach Yamada said to Ren and Kenta. The two boys quickly nodded and returned to the field to join the batting practice, leaving Shun alone with the coach.

"Shun, I need your opinion on how we should use our pitchers during the tournament, especially in the doubleheader on the first day." - Coach Yamada said sincerely, looking at Shun. Over the past year, Shun had not only shown incredible improvement on the field but had also significantly helped the team's other pitchers improve. Coach Yamada knew that Shun had earned the respect and admiration of Sora, Jiro, and even Daigo.

Since the coach needed to plan how to use his pitchers during the tournament, balancing the need to win games with ensuring they were ready for subsequent matches, Shun was the person who could help the most. After all, the boy had also demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to formulate strategies during the Tokyo tournament.

"Well, I think we should do it like this..." - Shun was a little surprised by the coach's straightforward request, but he was also pleased with the responsibility. He then began explaining his thoughts while Coach Yamada listened intently.

"Alright, I'll leave this to you." - Coach Yamada said after hearing Shun's plans. The man couldn't help but be impressed by the boy. After all, Shun was also a pitcher, and it would have been normal for a teenager to be selfish and try to secure more playing time. However, all of Shun's suggestions prioritized the team's best interests. Find your next adventure on empire

"Thank you, Coach!" - Shun bowed and spoke with a smile. As he began to turn back toward the field, the coach added one last thing.

"I'm also counting on you to handle this situation with Ryosuke." - Coach Yamada said, looking at Shun. Shun simply nodded and walked back to the field to start his batting practice. But in his mind, the boy reflected on the weight of the responsibilities that had been entrusted to him.
