The Magic Merchant in Fairy Tail

Chapter 9: 9: The Curse of Karna Island

"Who are you?"

The guard noticed Kira and his four companions approaching and asked.

Kira stepped forward and answered, "We are wizards from Fairy Tail who are here to complete a mission."

Guard A turned around and asked his companion next to him: "Is this true?"

"It seems that they said that someone from the magic guild would be coming."

"Show us your guild emblem."

This is something that almost every mission has to go through, so the few people were not surprised and immediately revealed their respective guild emblems.

Kira took off his coat, and a black guild emblem representing 'Fairy Tail' was engraved on his left arm.

In fact, Kira doesn't like tattoos very much, but this is how the world is. The emblem of the Magic Guild represents one's identity, so he can only follow the local customs and eventually he got used to it.

In fact, there is another reason why he doesn't mind engraving the emblem. Kira vaguely remembers that this guild emblem seems to be a magic buff, with the magic of Mavis, the first president of "Fairy Tail", on it. He forgot the specific effect, but generally speaking it is cheating.

If you can cheat, then you naturally won't mind. After all, who would complain about having too many cheats?

After confirming the identity of the visitors, the guard opened the gate to let them in, and then led them to the village chief.

Including the village chief, everyone was wearing clothes like those of some backward tribe. Among them, only the village chief was wearing a cloak that looked slightly noble and was made of the fur of some wild animal.

The village chief was a short, long-eared old man holding a scepter with a moon-shaped top. When he saw Kira and his companions who came to solve the curse, a warm smile appeared on his face.

"I have finally waited for you to arrive, fellow magicians."

The elderly village chief showed the current situation to the people and said slowly: "As you can see, all creatures on this island, from dogs to birds, are not spared. We are all entangled by this curse."

Gray offered his own opinion: "Why do you say it's a curse? Have you ever thought that it might be a disease?"

The village chief replied: "We have already found dozens of doctors to diagnose us, but their conclusion is that they have never seen a similar disease. And our physical mutation is related to the magic of the moon."

"This island has been gathering the light of the moon since ancient times. The whole island became brilliant and beautiful because of the moon, but a few years ago the moon suddenly turned purple and emitted purple light."

Rocky: "Purple light? Could it be light magic?"

"And when the purple moon appears, our appearance will be changed and we will become ugly demons."

Gray thought of something and looked a little surprised: "You mean the devil?"

"Yes, and during the day, everyone will return to their original state, but..."

Kana: "But?"

"Some of us are unable to recover, and even lose our minds, and even our hearts turn into demons. In the end, we have no choice but to harden our hearts and kill them."

"Kill him? How decisive!"

"That's right. If they find a way, they should be able to reply!"

"There's nothing we can do. If we leave it alone, everyone will be killed by the monsters. Even if we lock them up in a cell, they will destroy the cell door, including my son."

"So I beg all the great magicians to save this island and remove the curse from us. Otherwise, if this continues, all of us will have our souls taken away by the devil."

The old village chief became more and more excited as he spoke, and in the end he couldn't help crying. The surrounding villagers came forward to comfort him.

"There is only one way to solve our curse. Please destroy the moon!"

Gray: "Huh?!"

Rocky: "You mean destroy the moon?"

Kana: "How is it possible to do something like that?"

Although the atmosphere around was made very weird by the old village chief and the villagers, and the performance of Gray and others perfectly set it off, Kira felt nothing in his heart and even wanted to laugh.

After all, he knew what was going on, but he couldn't tell everyone directly because he had to maintain his demeanor as an S-class wizard in front of everyone, so he could only reason step by step.

Finally, Kira led several people out of the village and into the depths of the forest on the pretext of investigating clues.

On the way, Gray, Rocky and Kana all expressed their opinions.

"No matter what, destroying the moon is impossible, right?"

Compared to Gray who was still struggling with the moon, Rocky was obviously much more rational: "According to my guess, this should be a kind of magic, and it is a magic that only affects the people and animals on the island."

"Magic? Is it receiving magic like Mira?"

"How is it possible that the entire island, including the animals, have the talent to receive magic? And there aren't that many demons for them to receive it. It must be some other magic."

Kira felt that Rocky was taking things for granted. Aren't there so many demons everywhere?

Kana thought for a moment and said, "The moon turns purple and emits purple light. Could it be light magic? Rocky, have you ever heard of similar magic?"

Rocky shook his head: "I've never heard of this type of magic."

"What do you think? Kira, what should we do?"

The three looked at Kira to see what he would say.

Seeing that the three of them had no clue, Kira felt proud in his heart, but sighed helplessly on his face: "Hey, so this is the gap between you and S-class wizards. Didn't you collect any intelligence when you were doing missions before?"

"What's the meaning?"

"I did some research before we set off," Kira began to talk nonsense logically, "This island is recorded in some libraries. It is an island with a long history."

"Karna Island was called the Moon Island long ago because it can gather moonlight and condense it into a powerful moon force. But at the same time, it is also called the Devil Island because the residents here are all demons, not humans."

"Nani?" ×3

Kira's words startled several people to stop.

Gray exclaimed: "Are you saying that these residents did not become demons because of the moon, but that they were demons from the beginning?"

 "Yes."

Kana asked, "Wait...but what we just saw was indeed a human, right?"

"It's recorded in the book that transforming into humans is the talent of these demons here. In other words, they actually change during the day and return to their original appearance at night."

After thinking for a while, Rocky asked, "If they are really demons, why did they lie to us and say that they became demons because of the curse of the moon? And the attitude of the villagers..."

"Something has affected their bodies, or more precisely, their memories, making them think they were originally human."

"It affected my memory? Was it the purple moon?"

"The villagers seeing the purple moon should be related to the changes in their bodies. There are two possibilities. One is that the virus affects the villagers' bodies, not only causing memory confusion but also disrupting their eyesight.

If we can also see a purple moon after nightfall, then it should be the second case. A magic spread throughout the island and turned the incoming moonlight into purple, which in turn affected their memories.

However, considering the situation on the island, I am more inclined to the latter."Well, it actually turned out to be round. I'm such a genius!
