Chapter 1481 A Loud Ruckus
Chapter 1481 A Loud Ruckus
Rex wasn't planning on doing anything bad.
He was set on taking care of this without violence but the situation always forced him to.
It was supposed to be a normal spar.
Once he struggled a little bit and taught Joren and Rakha more about how to fight better, he would then defeat them in a worthy way so as to not embarrass them. At that point, both sides could walk away without the need for any violence.
But Joren crossed the line.
System, is the poison deadly?
<Yes, the user will gradually be paralyzed completely with time>
Upon reading the notification, Rex could only shake his head—there's no way he's going to let this go.
Joren tried to cripple him for the sake of saving face and that was going too far.
Giving no time for Rex to breathe and recover, Joren attacked again.
His movements and attack sequences became more daring, throwing heavy punches and kicks without any fear—of being counterattacked. Clearly, Joren knew that Rex was poisoned, his reflex would be impaired greatly so there was no need to fear a counterattack.
Seeing that Rex was becoming sluggish, a grin crept to Joren's face as he continued relentlessly.
A bit more and he would be able to break through Rex's defense and land a detrimental blow.
'An opening!' Joren's eyes flashed when Rex stumbled—after blocking a powerful kick with his arms. Without hesitation, he dashed forward for an uppercut to the jaw but his vision was suddenly forced to turn to the side and his mind blurred for a brief second.
Once he blinked his eyes and recovered, he reached for his face which was throbbing in pain.
Naturally, he was shocked.
During the earlier exchange, Rex's body suddenly stiffened and firmed into place.
He caught the uppercut and slapped Joren across his face hard.
It happened so fast that even Joren couldn't see the slap coming much less block the slap.
Rex exhaled lightly, a crawling numbness spread through his limbs, like a thousand tiny ants skittering beneath his skin. Each step left a tingling, restless sensation that numbed and itched at the same time.
It was the poison taking effect on his body.
As the System explained, he would be paralyzed sooner or later.
His reflex would become slower and slower.
But that was still more than enough to defeat Joren in a fistfight.
Rex gazed at the shocked Joren with a cold gaze, and in the next instant, he moved.
Swoosh!
"Heukh!" Joren grunted in pain as his eyes bulged when a devastating punch landed on his liver.
He thought that he knew how strong Rex was already, having taken a couple of hits earlier, but the force from this punch surpassed all previous strikes he endured greatly. Rex's fist sank deep into his abs—cracking a couple of his ribs like they were nothing.
Just as he was about to pull away, Rex held his head down with both arms.
And then, he saw a knee flying towards his face.
Bam!
Blood bursts into the air in a beautiful arc as Joren's nose breaks instantly from the knee.
Rex's attacks were practical—no wasted movement and yielded the best result.
'How can he still move so fast like this?!' Joren exclaimed inside his mind, things weren't supposed to go like this after he managed to cut and poison Rex. Gritting his teeth—he glared at Rex and swung his leg in a devious arc, aiming at Rex's face.
But his kick was caught and with a pivot of Rex's body, he was slammed onto the ground hard.
Crash!
"Kaargh!" Joren's pupils trembled as the air in his lungs was forced out.
His broken ribs doubled in number as the slam to the earth was devastating for his back.
In a slow and composed manner, Rex climbed onto Joren and began pounding him hard mercilessly.
Bam!
Bam!
Bam!
Each time Rex's fist crossed Joren's face—the sound of flesh against flesh it created made the onlookers who were watching this supposed 'spar' flinch. None of them expected Joren—the trusted right hand of the Onyx Lotus Village would lose this badly against the nobody.
Joren tried to defend himself but the attacks were merciless.
He was given no time to recover—he could only raise his arms desperately to block the rain of blows.
Blood, saliva, and teeth alike were the product of each punch.
Rex kept punching without saying a single word and his face remained expressionless.
Now that Joren was receiving the full brunt of Rex's actual combat skills, he couldn't do anything in retaliation.
"S-Stop…" Rakha, who was the first one to snap out of the initial shock, mumbled. He watched as Joren tried to escape the position he was in, desperately but was pinned down by Rex's thighs. Then, he realized that Joren wasn't playing around, he was actually in trouble, "Stop! We lost already, stop!!"
Shaking his head, Rakha dashed forward to stop Rex's onslaught.
However, in that very second, Linthia appeared right in front of him and placed her hand against his chest.
"Don't meddle the spar," She said sharply. "Just wait until your senior gives up"
Upon hearing this, Rakha gritted his teeth and tried to push her out of his way.
But instead of doing that, Linthia moved quickly—grabbing his arm and twisting herself behind Rakha in one fluid motion. With a sharp sweep of her leg, she took him down, pinning him to the ground with his arm locked behind his back, "Just wait. Unless your senior is a fool—he should already know he doesn't stand a chance. I am doing this for your sake,"
Just as she said that, however, the fit woman rushed in and choked Rex from behind.
"Stop it. It's your win, so you can stop," She said as she pulled Rex back by his neck.
But instead of hearing her, Rex elbowed her liver, grabbed her head, and tossed her forward.
He did it so effortlessly—making the fit woman look like an amateur when she's not.
Boom!!
Out of nowhere, Rex staggered backward as Joren exploded with life energy.
A tinge of fear could be seen behind his eyes.
At that position earlier, he really couldn't do anything to free himself—he was helpless underneath Rex.
Realizing that he couldn't retaliate at all was a terrifying feeling, and the sheer desperation of never wanting to feel that way again drove him to broke the sparring rules and unleashed the full extent of his power, "You're going to pay for this, you bastard!"
Despite Joren's bloodshot eyes, Rex was completely unfazed.
He was still wearing the same expressionless mask.
"Shouldn't we stop this? It's getting out of hand"
"I think it's gone too far already…"
"If one of them dies, both our villages are going to be in trouble"
Seeing how the spar has turned into a brutal, bloodied brawl—the onlookers began to be uncomfortable and came to realize that this wasn't a spar anymore. Something made Rex switch or maybe, he was a brutal person from the start who wanted an excuse to do this.
Either way, the spar needs to be stopped or else one of them will die.
In the face of the flaring power, climbing upward to the Immortal Spirit 3 rank, Rex was still unfazed.
He wiped the blood that got onto his face with the back of his hand nonchalantly.
No trace of fear could be seen at the possibility of a fight breaking out.
Casey, the only one who realized that Joren used an underhanded trick to weaken Rex, through the use-case of a poison, channeled her life energy in preparation to step in between them, 'Joren you fool, you should've just taken the loss, and save face!'
Just as she was about to leap in, a loud voice rang throughout the entire area.
"What is going on here?!"
A squad of guards on horseback approached from the flank, each radiating a power on par with Rex and Joren.
At their head rode a middle-aged man with short, stark-white hair—the weight of authority clung to him, his sheer commanding presence leaving no doubt that he ranked above the normal guards, and the distinct crest emblazoned on his chestplate hinted at an even greater status—perhaps, a Knight.
Riding along with a massive baby blue horse, the middle-aged man, Ferric, circled Rex and Joren.
Despite his proud arrogance, Joren immediately retracted his aura when Ferric arrived.
Such a detail didn't brush past Rex's eyes.
He could tell that Ferric had a reputation among the people in this forest, a fierce reputation at that.
'Oh, no…' Casey frowned as she came to realize that Rex was in trouble. 'Ferric knew Joren but he most certainly wouldn't recognize Rex. I don't know exactly what his situation was but this is not going to help him. I'll need to expose my identity if it comes down to it'
Ferric stopped and looked down at Joren, "Explain, what happened here?"
"It's nothing for you to worry about, Sir Ferric," Joren forced out a smile. "We're only settling our differences"
Clearly, it's not nothing.
Ferric could see how battered Joren was and he was quite surprised.
Normally, Joren would be the one who was clean of blood whenever an altercation happened.
But that doesn't seem to be the case today.
Averting his attention to the other side, Ferric made crisp clicking sounds—as he pulled on the reins, turning the horse around to face Rex. Seeing the unfamiliar face, Ferric frowned, "I have never seen your face around here, who are you? Are you new here?"
Ferric's tone was demanding, urging Rex to answer until he was satisfied.
Instead of him, Casey stepped forward, "Yes, he's new around here and didn't know how things operate"
"Who are you? I also didn't recognize you," Ferric frowned further, there were two faces that he did not recognize here and that was not something he liked. This only meant the guards guarding the bubble were slacking—failed to stop these two.
Kody stepped forward, "Sir Ferric, you're away often. There are a few new faces that came here since"
Upon hearing this, Ferric nodded his head and fixed his gaze back to Rex.
"What about him?" He asked, nudging his chin towards Rex. "Is he also from your village?"
"Ah, about that…" Kody smiled unsurely.
He didn't know where Rex came from—so he wasn't sure on how to answer this question.
However, this answer made Casey look at him meaningfully.
Realizing that he shouldn't have hesitated like that, Kody wanted to add more but Ferric already unsheathed his sword, "Seems like he's not from your village, and from the look all of you are giving him, he' doesn't belong to any village. An outsider…"
"You dare come here and be a thug? Do you know the penalty for doing that?" Ferric asked threateningly.
Coming into the Aurelian Fortress without permission is illegal.
It would be punished with one thousand whips and be tossed outside into the Black Rift's maw.
Causing trouble while being an outsider, on the other hand, bore a heavier consequence.
Death penalty—the fortress doesn't play around with its established rules.
"Sir Ferric, it's not like that at all," Casey stepped in again. "The Onyx Lotus Village was making a scene so h-"
"Am I talking to you?" Ferric cut her off and glared at her. "I know the competition between the villages is fierce, but that doesn't mean we're not under—the same banner. No matter the reason, an outsider beating up one of our own is not permissible. Challenge that and I'll have you hang with him as well,"
Upon hearing this, Casey sighed inside.
She has no other choice but to expose her identity or else Rex would get into trouble.
Casey owed that much to Rex, especially since he was the one who gave him a precious unique Echo.
Just then, however, another voice rang—pulling Ferric's attention almost instantly.
"It's not a good idea to ignore the context, Sir Ferric. Can you at least hear what they have to say?"
