A gloomy atmosphere permeated the Grand holy temple of Hevium.
A murder case that had been quiet for a while had flared up again as two more priests were found dead in their own rooms.
As a result, Judith and Roshan were inverstigating this case for nearly ten days now, they collected the bodies, held the funeral, and kept a tight lip to avoide the leakage of any information. But such tasks were nothing compared to the truly pressing issue at hand.
Judith furrowed her brow deeply, lost in thought. Roshan approached her with a worried expression.
“Judith, why don’t you get some rest?”
“No. This is no time for that. There are already five of them!”
“But you need to take a break sometime. Do you realize you’ve been pulling all-nighters for three days straight?”
Judith rubbed her temple somewhat irritably, then let out a curse.
“Damn it! I just don’t understand. How could this happen?”
She abruptly stood up, unable to contain herself. She anxiously chewed on her already bitten-off nails as she continued.
“I can see through all black magic using my divine power. Yet I didn’t notice a thing when all five were still alive. Even though there was a curse that could completely kill people!”
Judith shuddered as she recalled the victims’ bodies, consumed by dark energy. Particularly the skin on their heads and chests was blackened, as if charred – evidence of the vile spells that had dominated their minds and stolen their life force.
“That’s proof that the enemy is strong and dangerous.”
“It could be ‘enemies’.”
Judith looked at Roshan. Her face was heavily tensed.
“For a human to wield this level of dark magic, it would be impossible through ordinary means. As you know, it requires some sort of powerful energy source.”
Roshan let out a deep sigh. It felt like they were being dragged into a storm where they couldn’t see even one step ahead.
“Investigations are still ongoing at the Mage Tower, so let’s wait and see what they can find.”
