Chapter 4: A Knight and His Angel
"Listen to me carefully, Leto, Halia. You will never tell a soul who I am, what you did here, or where this place is. Don't even let anyone know this place exists, do you understand?"
They were both afrain and confused but still nodded with understanding.
"Now, Leto. Do you understand what this means? It means that you are now a Slave of God. That armor was forged by a god and since you are now its bearer, you are now gods possession."
Leto was incredibly confused and had so many questions but before he could ask any, Kamari grabbed his and Halia's wrists and brought them outside. They went to the back of the house and approached a gravestone.
"The hero of the Keira Empire, Kuragi, is in this grave. After the war, he's gone to live quietly with his family but since he was a Slave of God, he far outlived them. He came into this forest and built this cabin then, The Lords of Night commanded me to kill him and wait for a successor. You, Leto, are that person. Now you will the the Nights call and answer, you will be the Gods Liaison!"
"What do you mean? You killed Kuragi? You were waiting for me? You were sent by god? I'm… I'm a slave!?"
Leto was incredibly angered by the knowledge that Kamari had told him, and Halia was simply dumbfounded.
"Halia, you have a role too. You will inherit divine power and guide Leto on his journey. You will become an angel, like me."
Halia took a step back and held her head, everything that'd happened in the last few minutes was simply absurd.
'Leto is a Slave of God! I'm now going to be an angel! And I have to guide Leto! What… what does all this mean?'
A little while later, Leto and Halia were getting ready to go to sleep. They were lying beside each other but neither would close their eyes. Their entire lives were now flipped upside down. They didn't know how to process this. Should they be happy? Should they be sad? Hateful? Taken advantage of? Eventually, they were both asleep after idly lying in bed.
Morning came around and Kamari seemed… different. They were happy. The siblings didn't know what this would mean for them and didnt exactly welcome the change. After breakfast, they finally found out why Kamari was so excited. They would start their training.
Leto had to condition his body and grow his strength. Halia needed to ready her body to revive and angels power… however one went about that, she didn't know but soon would. Kuragi then led Leto outside and made him run as long as he could, then Kamari would heal his body and make him do it thrice more.
Halia on the other hand, is being taught many things about the gods, both unsavory and beautiful.
"The gods are not who you think they are. They despise the life that's blossomed on this planet and are going to destroy it to make way for their Imago Dei's, a race made in gods image. You must guide Leto on his conquest to purge those who are not zealous enough to worship the gods.
If you falter whilst under the gods watch, you will receive divine punishment and severely regret doing so. You have no choose but to become an angel just as Leto has no choose but to purge the miscreants who deny the gods."
"What happens if I do refuse or falter?"
"You cannot refuse. And if you falter, you will feel a pain worse than death, see horrors that could break even the strongest willed of people, and you will become a hollow version of yourself, a mere skin suit that follows the gods words."
Halia lowered her head with a grim expression. She was not a slave to a god who hates people, and so was her precious younger brother.
Kamari gave Halia many books and scriptures she would need to read and study, along with some explaining how to use magic as receiving divine power grants immense mana. After Leto's body was completely exhausted despite being healed and Halia's head was hurting from reading the entire day, they had dinner, washed up, and went to sleep.
After a week, Leto began learning how to use various weapons and infuse mana and magic into his fighting, Halia received a partial amount of her power and began practicing various spells.
Days blurred into weeks, weeks blurred into months, and months blurred into years. And now, 6 years later, they left the forest they had been confined to in order to begin carrying out the Lords of Night's slaughter.
The two looked completely different after spending so much time training. Leto was now 12 years old, he was still a boy but had a toned physique and healthy body. He wore the Fallen Hero of the Keira Empire's armor and wielded a sword that seemed to be made of ice, despite being made of ice, it never melted or cracked.
Halia now hardly looked like a mere mundane human, after absorbing an enormous amount of divine power, she sprouted three pairs of wings, one pairs feathers were the same striking silver as her hair, one was bright white color, and the least was as dark as the night sky. Her skin radiated an aura of holiness and was smooth.
Together, they headed towards the Earl Kingdom, where they would punish the cynical pagans that lived there.
