Chapter 37: silvery hair girl
Although Professor Green was a bit surprised by Lynn's request, he did not refuse it.
A year ago, when he went to teach at Hogwarts, Dumbledore had hinted in both explicit and subtle ways that Voldemort might not truly be gone. In Professor Green's opinion, the British wizarding world remained highly dangerous. Therefore, equipping his disciple with powerful tools for self-defense was more than justified.
"A Desert Eagle—how about that?" Professor Green asked.
Since Lynn had specifically requested a firearm, Green assumed Lynn had some knowledge about guns, so he went straight to the point without further explanation.
As a semi-automatic pistol that uses large-caliber rounds, the Desert Eagle is infamous for its weight and intense recoil, which makes it unsuitable for most adults and explains why it hasn't been widely adopted by military forces.
However, as a wizard and alchemist, Lynn could not only augment its power through enchantments but also use alchemy to refine equipment that reduced the weapon's drawbacks. He could, for example, create an alchemical array to enhance its firepower while mitigating its recoil. From Professor Green's perspective, the Desert Eagle was a perfect choice for Lynn.
Lynn nodded enthusiastically, showing his eagerness to receive the weapon.
Professor Green smiled, ruffling Lynn's hair. "Very well. Go buy your textbooks first. I'll send your gift to Rowle Manor via owl post before the start of term."
Having agreed on Lynn's gift, Professor Green disapparated from the Leaky Cauldron with a flick of his wand.
---
Lynn stepped into the Leaky Cauldron, heading for the back courtyard to access Diagon Alley. Tom, the pub's owner, stood behind the counter as usual. After greeting Tom, Lynn made his way to the courtyard.
Surprisingly, Tom followed him.
Typically, Tom would only guide first-years to Diagon Alley. For returning students, he rarely provided additional help since the pub's bustling business left him little time for such things. His actions today puzzled Lynn.
When Lynn asked why, Tom smiled wryly and explained, "Last month, some young wizard kicked over the bin, moving it two bricks away from the entrance to Diagon Alley. The courtyard's been filled with people unable to get in ever since, so I've been keeping an eye on it."
Lynn chuckled at Tom's frustration. After thanking him, Lynn opened the passageway to Diagon Alley and stepped inside.
---
Buying his new textbooks and magical supplies was a straightforward process. In addition, Lynn purchased various alchemical materials. As only alchemists could utilize these resources, the surplus supply kept their prices modest in the British market.
While these materials might fetch ten times their price in the French wizarding world, the conservative nature of British wizarding society—and the lack of cross-border trading—meant few took advantage of such opportunities.
With his errands complete, Lynn followed prior arrangements, meeting the Rowle Manor house-elf Gale in a quiet alley. Gale apparated him safely back home.
---
Once back at Rowle Manor, Lynn began organizing his supplies for the new school year. Beyond the standard magical and alchemical items, he also prepared additional resources to refine more Forbidden Magic Fire. For now, it remained his most powerful asset, even surpassing his silent, wandless spellcasting.
The more Forbidden Magic Fire he could refine, the better equipped he would be to face future threats.
---
The day before heading to King's Cross Station, Lynn received the Desert Eagle via owl post, just as Professor Green had promised.
The package contained the gun itself, spare parts, an instruction manual, and 100 extra rounds. Additionally, Professor Green included a letter suggesting Lynn enchant both the Desert Eagle and the ammunition to make them more effective.
Lynn eagerly accepted the suggestion, planning to work on the enhancements his first night at Hogwarts.
---
When the first day of school arrived, Gale helped Lynn apparate to King's Cross Station, where he crossed through the barrier to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.
Not long after stepping onto the platform, Lynn spotted Fred and George Weasley rushing through the partition, pushing a luggage trolley.
"Lynn!"
Fred and George waved enthusiastically as they approached.
"Lynn, we still can't make heads or tails of that Muggle electrical knowledge you sent us over the summer. Are you sure it has anything to do with alchemy?" George asked, clearly frustrated.
Earlier that summer, Lynn had sent them a book detailing the basics of electricity—a subject from his past life. He believed that understanding electricity would pave the way for mastering runic alchemy.
Lynn nodded confidently. "Absolutely! With your impatient temperament, of course it won't make sense right away. Keep at it, though. Once you understand it, you'll have taken the first step into the world of alchemy."
Fred threw up his hands. "But we just want to have fun—"
"—not sit through boring lessons," George finished.
Before they could continue, two more figures emerged from the barrier—a boy with fiery red hair and another with messy black hair, glasses, and a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.
Ron Weasley and Harry Potter.
Lynn recognized them instantly.
As he prepared to board the train, Lynn's peripheral vision caught sight of another figure stepping through the barrier—a girl with silvery hair and strikingly beautiful features.
Silver hair? A half-Veela, perhaps?
But where would a Veela hybrid come from at Hogwarts?
Lynn paused in his tracks, confused and intrigued by the mysterious new arrival.
