Chapter 22: Chapter 22 New Dungeon
After eating lunch, Daniel and his friends headed to the third floor for their Charms lesson. The room featured a high ceiling, wooden desks in rows, and enchanted candles that lightly illuminated the space. Beside the professor's desk stood a podium made of books.
"Why are there books on the ground?" asked Michael, a little outraged by the apparent disrespect toward them.
"Didn't you see that the professor is really short? Maybe he uses them as a podium," answered Terry.
"But why books? Can't he use a stool or something else?" Michael questioned, and they began discussing the topic.
Daniel, however, didn't pay much attention to them. He simply sat quietly, waiting for the professor to arrive. He didn't have to wait long, after a minute or two, the professor entered the classroom. Smiling at the students, he hopped onto the podium of books, causing a few students to snort or chuckle. He didn't seem to mind and quickly introduced himself.
"Hello, everyone! My name is Filius Flitwick, but you can call me Professor Flitwick. I will be your Charms professor."
Professor Flitwick was exceptionally short due to his goblin ancestry, with a tiny frame and a high-pitched voice. In his elderly years, he had a shock of white hair and a wrinkled face.
He began by explaining a few things about Charms, and once he was done, he announced excitedly, "Now, we will learn the Levitation Charm!"
He went on to explain, "The Levitation Charm is used to lift objects high into the air, allowing controlled movement. When you master it enough, it defies gravity and can lift heavier objects than normally possible."
Demonstrating, he waved his wand at his desk and said, "Wingardium Leviosa!" Instantly, the desk and all the books beside it floated gracefully into the air, moving around wherever his wand pointed.
"To cast the charm, you need to follow the wand movement carefully and pronounce 'Wingardium Leviosa' correctly. You can find more details in your textbook. Try it out on the feathers first!" Flitwick said, waving his wand to make feathers float onto everyone's desk.
Daniel looked at the feather before taking out his wand. With a flick, he cast, "Wingardium Leviosa!" The feather immediately rose into the air on his first try.
'Easy,' he thought.
Professor Flitwick, noticing his success, exclaimed excitedly, "Congratulations, Mr. Wilson! That's five points for Ravenclaw!"
He then added, "If you're already familiar with the charm, feel free to practice it on heavier objects or assist your classmates." With that, he moved on to check on the other students.
Daniel considered practicing with heavier objects, but when he saw his friends struggling, he sighed and said, "Your wand movements are off." He spent the rest of the lesson helping them. By the end of class, all of his friends had managed to make their feathers float, which thrilled Professor Flitwick. He rewarded them with even more points.
As they left the classroom, Anthony suggested, "We have a couple of hours before the next lesson. Want to explore the castle or read something in the library?"
Everyone except Daniel agreed.
"Sorry, I want to get in some training," he said, excusing himself.
He entered a random classroom and glanced around to see if anyone was there. When he saw the room was empty, he activated his Empty ID and saw a notification.
[Your skill leveled up]
He looked at the description and felt a surge of excitement.
[ID Create (Active) Lvl 10]
[- Used to create Instant Dungeons
- Stronger dungeons may be created at higher levels
Currently Available ID List:
- Empty ID – Monsters: none
- Gnome ID - Monsters: Gnomes]
'Should I go now?' he thought for a minute, then decided, 'Ehh, why not? I have a couple of hours until Astronomy lessons.' He exited the Empty ID and entered the Gnome ID.
His surroundings twisted, and he suddenly found himself in a damp, underground maze with narrow, twisting tunnels. Small burrows filled with roots and dirt lined the walls. Flickering mushrooms lit the path, and the air smelled of earth and fungi.
Daniel looked around but didn't see anything. He moved closer to the wall and slowly began heading in a random direction. It didn't take long for him to spot a small, brown humanoid creature. He quickly used Observe on it.
[Gnome, Lvl 4]
[Gnomes stand about one foot tall, smaller than Erklings, with disproportionately large heads that resemble potatoes with legs. Their bodies are typically brown, and they have sharp teeth. While not dangerous unless provoked, they are mischievous by nature and often bite if threatened or disturbed in their burrows.]
He read the description and pointed his wand toward the creature, casting Mana Arrow. The arrow shot straight through the gnome's head, killing it instantly.
[EXP +40]
[Drop: 40 Pence]
Daniel walked up to the disintegrating gnome, which broke apart into motes of blue light, leaving behind a few coins. 'Nice, I can get rich and strong at the same time,' he thought, imagining how much money a stronger monster might drop.
He continued walking, silently ambushing more gnomes with Mana Arrows to the back of the head. Each successful hit earned him more experience and eventually, a new skill.
[Due to continuous action, you have earned a skill]
He checked the skill details.
[Sneak (Active) Lvl 1]
[- User is harder to notice when the skill is in use.
- If the user ambushes an enemy while the skill is active, the damage is boosted by 5%.]
'Nice, another useful skill,' Daniel thought, pleased with his progress. He continued his silent hunt, spending the next three hours in the dungeon.
When he finally left and checked his inventory, he couldn't help but smile.
[87 pounds and 50 pence]
'Not bad for a single outing,' he thought. Then, he looked at his level.
[Level: 12 EXP: 2850/3000]
He grinned, 'Finally, I can start grinding levels.' But then, his gaze shifted to the rest of the items in his inventory:
[Gnome Teeth]
[Gnome Claws]
[Gnome Saliva]
"Maybe they'll come in handy later," he mused, before heading to the library.
When he spotted his friends in the library, he grabbed a random book, sat down next to Michael, and quietly read until it was time for their Astronomy lesson.
