The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

Chapter 66: Hypothesis about the monster of the secret room

The situation for Harry wasn't fair, but for me, it was, because Lockhart pretended to be a professional who had repaired broken bones hundreds of times—only to end up making them disappear entirely.

Now, I pity Harry, who will have to endure the pain of having his bones grow back.

Colin took pictures of the result and kept asking questions, which almost earned him an insult from Harry, who told him to leave and stop bothering him.

Colin came back to us with a look full of frustration, but when I gave him the money, he remembered why he was there—it was the perfect opportunity to learn a little more about his dream.

I went with him to help develop his photos, and once we had them, I left with Marie to create something that could resemble an article I'd send to the Witch Gazette at the end of the year.

I may seem cruel, but I can't afford for the students to have absent teachers because of my actions.

We worked so hard on the layout that it really looked like a press article that could have been written by Rita Skeeter, one of the most hated journalists among people.

I finally realized it was already late—very late—but fortunately, I had permission to stay out. If I got caught, I'd explain that Marie was with me because we were working on studying the Defense Against the Dark Arts course, for which we had an exemption.

Strangely, the corridors seemed unusually lively. We heard far more footsteps than usual, as if people were walking around the professor. Yet, I couldn't remember anything special happening that would require an increased patrol.

"I wonder what they're doing."

"It's none of our business. Besides, why would he tell us what happened? I may be a support teacher, and my brain might be helpful to them, but I don't think he'll tell me what's going on if I ask."

I might be naturally curious, but I didn't intend to get into trouble. With the Chamber of Secrets now opened, there must be a creature inside, and in my estimation, it could be a gorgon.

Gorgons are creatures that petrify you if you have the misfortune of meeting their gaze. The most famous of them lived in ancient Greece and was called Medusa—a well-known myth, so there might be some truth to it.

The problem with this theory is that gorgons petrify their victims by turning them to stone, while Miss Norris still had soft fur despite being petrified.

But perhaps I'm overthinking, and the gorgon's abilities have diminished over time, much like those of some sorcerers, which could explain why it only paralyzes now instead of fully turning victims into stone.

I remembered that Moaning Myrtle was present when the Chamber of Secrets was first opened. Maybe she has information that could help me figure out which creature is hiding behind the monster in the Chamber.

Lost in my thoughts, I finally arrived in the common room, went up to my dormitory, and got into bed to sleep.

It's very convenient to have several parallel thought processes because I can let some "sleep" while others continue thinking. This way, I can think about whatever I want even while resting.

This curse has allowed me to better understand my body, and it's the reason I can think while sleeping. However, it's been almost five years since I've had a full night's sleep at 100%.

The next morning, when I woke up, rumors were spreading. It was said that there had been a new attack during the night, which explained the increased movement of the teachers in the corridors.

Author's note:I will be absent next week so I would put a chapter or you can ask me questions about the story and I will answer when I am available again.
