Chapter 115. A Force of Nature
After quickly examining the contents, Yun Jin’s smile became genuine. “Why such formality, Senior Brothers? Your presence alone is enough. There’s no need for such lavish gifts. I’m not the type to be swayed by material things.”
Yun Jin placed the storage bag on the table. Gu Jinghong, understanding her intent, swiftly tucked it away, his movements fluid and practiced.
Zhou Li & Zhou Dai: “……”
Zhou Dai, with his superior composure, smiled and said, “Junior Sister Yun, this is only proper. Now, about Second Senior Brother…”
Yun Jin immediately glanced at Gu Jinghong. “Tell me, how are you faring here?”
Gungun surreptitiously grabbed a fistful of Gu Jinghong’s hair.
Hmph, if he dared speak out of turn, the great Gungun would have to intervene!
Gu Jinghong’s expression remained unchanged. “It’s excellent. At least I’m not forced to serve Junior Sister Ye hand and foot.”
Zhou Li and Zhou Dai’s expressions shifted slightly.
Unable to contain himself, Zhou Li blurted out, “Second Senior Brother! Master is going too far! How can a newly admitted disciple deserve such favoritism?”
Gu Jinghong wanted to warn the two but first checked Yun Jin’s reaction. Seeing no objection, he spoke slowly, “That Junior Sister is now Master’s precious darling. You two were never particularly favored, and now that I’m my new master’s servant, if anything happens to her in the future, I fear you’ll be the ones to suffer.”
Zhou Li and Zhou Dai felt a chill in their hearts.
Zhou Dai couldn’t help but ask, “She’s been confined to Heshan. What trouble could she possibly cause now?”
“Who knows?” Gu Jinghong said calmly. “For the sake of our brotherhood, I’ll warn you once. Stay away from her if you can.”
This Ye Danxia seemed to have an ominous air about her. When she got into trouble, those around her often suffered the consequences. Yet she always emerged unscathed. Such a person was likely what legends called a harbinger of disaster.
“This…” Zhou Dai was conflicted.
Zhou Li spoke directly, “Second Senior Brother, we have no choice. Master forbids us from taking missions outside and wants us to stay and care for this Junior Sister. We couldn’t avoid her even if we wanted to.”
Gu Jinghong raised an eyebrow. “Then that’s your concern.”
He had given all the advice he could. The rest was out of his hands.
Zhou Dai thought for a moment and cautiously said, “We’ll just deliver things and leave, without engaging her in conversation.”
At this point, Yun Jin chuckled softly.
“Does Junior Sister Yun have any insights to share?” Zhou Dai looked at her.
Yun Jin spoke gently, “Senior Brother Zhou, the Demon-Breaking Token you worked so hard to obtain is now in Ye Danxia’s possession, correct?”
This was common knowledge in Tianxing Sect. Zhou Dai was puzzled as to why Yun Jin suddenly brought it up.
“Although the Demon-Breaking Token was given to Ye Danxia, you were its original owners. The token can be transferred voluntarily, but there’s one thing…” Yun Jin paused, her expression unusually calm. “If the recipient of a gifted Demon-Breaking Token commits crimes related to demon clans, the givers are equally guilty.”
Zhou Dai felt a sudden chill.
The Demon-Breaking Alliance existed solely to deal with demon clans and encompassed nearly all top experts, making it the largest human alliance. Within this alliance, while other crimes might be overlooked, anything related to demon clans was of utmost importance.
The Demon-Breaking Token was meant to reward disciples who contributed to fighting demons. But if a token bearer later committed the crime of colluding with the enemy, the punishment would be doubled!
Even after gifting the token, if the recipient committed the grave offense of collaborating with demons, they would still be held accountable.
Yun Jin’s implication was clear!
If Ye Danxia were to collude with demon clans, they would be implicated!
Zhou Li also grasped this meaning and lowered his voice, “Collude with demon clans? Surely not! This is Tianxing Sect. How could she even contact demon clans?”
Yun Jin said no more, only smiling, “I’m merely pointing out a possibility, just to give you a heads-up. If it doesn’t happen, all the better. But if she truly has dealings with demon clans… You two, despite being demon-breaking heroes, would be dragged down with her.”
Yun Jin knew.
This wasn’t just a possibility.
Without intervention, it was an inevitable future.
Given the generous gifts from Zhou Li and Zhou Dai, Yun Jin didn’t mind offering a subtle warning.
Zhou Dai stood up and cupped his hands. “Thank you for the warning, Junior Sister Yun. We must go now, but we’ll visit again when the opportunity arises.”
Yun Jin nodded.
Zhou Li and Zhou Dai then left through a side path.
Zhou Li couldn’t help saying, “Brother, isn’t Junior Sister Yun exaggerating? Surely Junior Sister Ye wouldn’t go so far as to collude with demon clans?”
Any crime short of demon clan involvement wouldn’t implicate them.
Zhou Dai said gravely, “Either way, it’s best to err on the side of caution.”
Zhou Dai furrowed his brow, his expression turning solemn.
They had risked their lives for this Demon-Breaking Token, and now it had become a potential threat to them.
They had happily presented the token, hoping for Zhao Wuji’s praise.
Who could have imagined…
It would turn out like this.
Zhou Dai felt a headache coming on.
Heshan.
Heshan was extremely high. Despite the scorching summer, its peak was covered in ice and snow, bitingly cold.
At Zhao Wuji’s request, Zhou Li and Zhou Dai brought a pile of supplies.
Standing at the cave dwelling’s entrance, Zhou Dai produced a bronze token. The barrier opened, and they walked straight in.
Ye Danxia sat hugging her knees, curled up in a corner.
Snow had accumulated in the cave, and Ye Danxia was dressed in white, presenting a pitiful sight.
Zhou Li felt a twinge in his heart, even an urge to embrace her.
But the next moment.
Zhou Li’s expression changed.
This wasn’t right!
He had come with utmost caution, yet at first glance, he felt a strange fondness for her again.
This Junior Sister Ye must have something uncanny about her!
Ye Danxia heard the commotion and raised her head, her face pale and voice weak, “Senior Brothers, you… you’ve come.”
That eerie sense of fondness returned.
Zhou Li and Zhou Dai exchanged glances, both feeling something was amiss.
They decided not to venture further inside, standing at the entrance to avoid closer contact with Ye Danxia.
Zhou Li tossed over a storage bag, “These are some things Master prepared for you. Look through them yourself.”
With that, they turned to leave.
Ye Danxia’s expression shifted. She struggled to stand, then deliberately stumbled and fell.
From the ground, she looked pitifully at the two, “Senior Brothers, do you… do you despise me so much?”
Zhou Li and Zhou Dai took a simultaneous step back.
Ye Danxia: “……”
She was going mad.
Were these two Senior Brothers mentally unsound?
Was she really so frightening?
Did they need to treat her like some kind of force of nature?
