The Birth of the War Goddess

Chapter 11: Wolves

Since my father is not here and my mother is completely out of her mind to care about my doings... I sneak away to head to the mountain.

My shoulder is not completely healed but if I don't hit it against something I should be fine.

It did heal quite quickly, but I began to understand that's just how my body works.

As always I reach my hiding spot and get changed, I put some soft folded fabric over my shoulder and tie it to create a some kind of barrier just in case

I take my horse reins and walk up the mountain hanging a few targets and wooden puppets...

-This should be the last one... Let's get started Lian- I mount on my horse and begin my training a bit off minded.

The wood seems too paceful today, I haven't even saw a rabbit hopping by... That's too odd to be a casualty.

After my track I ride till a small river for my horse to relax a bit and practice something else after... Lian stops walking and begin to whine

-Ehy ehy, what's wrong Lian? Scared of some water now? We've been here tons of times already-

I pet his neck, pushing him to go further but he refuses and turn around with force

-Ohy! Slow down! Just get some rest and don't throw me to the ground-

I hear a growl, there's a wolf approaching silently... The Wolf seems quite ferocious

I hold tight on the reins turning my horse to go away

-Well then, I suppose we must not bother their hunting grounds then- Lian begins to walk away slowly before a black shadow fall in front of us scaring him

Lian rear up for the fear and I lose my grip, slipping away into the river full of rocks

-Kgh!- I hit my shoulder painfully and find myself lying in the water while my horse runs away scared -Lian no! Argh...!-

My eyes move to the black wolf, judging by his exposed fangs he's really hungry, or angry, or both...

I stand up reaching for an arrow before remembering my bow in on the horse, I only have one sword with me and an injured arm to use it

-Well... If I surpass this, I could pretty much depart for the North right away...- I roll the sword in my arm locking eyes on my target, a growl behind me distract me for just half a second...

In that moment the wolf on my front side jumps fowards and I barely have the time to realize what's happening for me to rise my sword and shield myself from his claws instinctively, before half rolling away as a Dodge...

The other growls gets closer to us as two more Wolves approach, showing their fangs to me

-Who's the Alpha...?- I ask to myself and almost as if they understand me, a fourth wolf appears behind them...

-I know you... The wolf who tried to kill that pup days ago... So animals and humans aren't that different uh? Once they fail alone they bring their gang...-

I rise my sword ready to thrust on a wolf coming near

I hit his paw so he pushes me down with the other one, before it can get over me I roll away on my poor shoulder and stand back up as my wound reopens burning like fire

"This... Will take me a while..." I try to get in a shielding position as fast as possible

One wolf jumps over me, almost getting me, but I dodge passing under him only to find my path blocked by two other wolves...

I rise my sword and a third wolf comes from behind pushing me forward against them, only my sides are free so I jump against a tree using a branch to change my direction to lower myself onto the the injured wolf. Thrusting my sword down in his head

-I'm sorry but you don't seem like good guys here!- I yell hissing my sword out of his bones and I kick away the convulsing body in the river...

Two wolves starts walking around me in circle, growling

One aim for my shoulder and, in the distraction of dodging that attack, I let the other one free to block my ankles digging his claws in the skin

-Ahhhgh!- I crawl on the ground digging my fingers in the soil, trying to slip away which only results in lacerating my wounds...

-I'm not... Diying here!- I let him lock my legs just to turn my arm and cut off his paws with my blade

As I stand up on trembling legs, blood spills all over the grass... I should be going in the water, the coldness will slow down the bleeding...

"I need to kill... These wolves... Before I... faint... Or" I shake my head and regain position

The wolf I just mutilated is now whining in pain so the most reasonable thing to do is end his suffering.

Two wolves left... One is an Alpha

I spar quite a lot with the remaining one meanwhile the Alpha seats down watching the show...

"What a coward" I stare at him behind my blood drenched hair

My idea of reaching the water fails completely.

The last wolf goes for a bite, filling his mouth with clothes for my sudden dodge and I use his malcontent to aim at his back paw...

I anchor it to the grown with my sword hitting his nose with a rock instead...

His courage fails him and he begin bowing scared, I hesitate a moment and then set him free, he runs away with the tail between his legs...

Here comes the last one.

He stands up crawling down from his audience spot to walk toward me...

And in a second it's at my side pushing me down, my eyes opens more than normal for the shock as I hit the ground spitting blood... He's fast!

I move away rising my sword as a shield

And here he is behind me, pushing me to the grown pressing his claws on my already injured shoulder...

-Ghmm...-

I lose the grip on my sword and as I try to reach out for it the wolf comes to bite my hand but I manage to take it back before losing a finger

Hurting my whole back I escape his claws and stand back up taking a tree branch as a weapon being my sword too far to reach.

"Will I ever make it out alive...?"

He comes further and attacks aiming for my face, I rise the wood and his fangs pierce it right in front of my eyes, as I watch the wood cramble down just one thought pass my mind

"It could have been my cranium instead..."

I slowly backwalk near my sword before he gets me falling again...

I take a pointy stone and hit his eye with it which results in him getting mad and more violent, I crawl to my sword that is now on his blind spot due to the injury

The wolf press on my poor ankles beginning to walk over me, he tries to block me from taking the sword not knowing I already squired it.

His snout lowers on my face as he tries to intimidate me, once his fangs meets my neck I turn around thrusting my sword up in his stomach...

Blood squirts out of the wound, warm and thick, soaking me completely and with a loud yep the beast dies falling on me

-Damn... I... Did it...- I whisper while my head fall down from exhaustion, or maybe blood loss, on the rocks painted in red.

...

-Who's there?!- I hear a voice calling -Here...-I try to yell

A man appears between the trees and gasp at the sight -Oh My... What happened here?!

I heard some screaming while picking berries and rushed here...-

it's Chao...

-You really are... An outsider... Everyone knows to not... Enter this mountain... I...'m injured- I say trying to push the heavy wolf off my body but no strength is left in my body -Everyone except you apparently... Let me help you Miss-
