Chapter 13: Chapter 13
Dominic gritted his teeth, holding back the rage that was about to erupt. "We have to end this war before they get here!"
With unwavering courage, Dominic leaped out of cover and fired a bullet straight at one of Victor's men who was approaching him. At the same time, Victor seized the opportunity to sprint toward his jet, trying to start the engine that Amelia had previously disabled.
"Not so fast, Victor!" Amelia tackled him from the side, knocking him to the ground in an instant. They wrestled briefly before Amelia managed to draw a dagger from her belt and press it against Victor's throat.
"Surrender now!" Amelia's voice was firm despite her slightly labored breathing.
Victor chuckled darkly. "You don't have the guts to do it, Amelia. You're not a killer."
Before Amelia could respond, Dominic was already by her side, pointing a gun at Victor's head. "But I have no doubts about doing it."
Victor locked eyes with Dominic, his gaze sharp and unwavering. But before Dominic could act further, the sound of approaching vehicles grew louder.
Dante shouted from a distance, "Dominic! Their vehicles are almost here! We have to leave now!"
Dominic stared at Victor, his finger still resting on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment. His breath was heavy with suppressed anger, but the roar of armored vehicles closing in reminded him that time was running out.
"Amelia, tie him up! We have to move now!" Dominic ordered without taking his eyes off Victor.
Amelia quickly pulled out a pair of handcuffs from her tactical belt, yanked Victor's hands behind his back, and secured them tightly. But before they could drag him away, a sudden gunshot echoed through the hangar, breaking the tense silence. Bullets began ricocheting off steel and cargo crates around them.
"They're here!" Marco shouted from behind cover.
The armored vehicle screeched to a halt just outside the hangar. Its rear doors flung open, revealing more of Victor's men pouring out, many of them wielding heavy weaponry. One of them wasted no time and fired a rocket straight at Dominic's team.
"Get down!" Dante yelled in warning.
A massive explosion rocked the hangar, sending metal fragments flying in all directions. Dominic and Amelia were thrown to the side, while Victor, still bound, lay between them.
Despite his battered state, Victor let out a low chuckle. "Did you really think you could win this game against me?" he sneered, shifting his gaze between Amelia and Dominic.
Dominic quickly got to his feet and pulled Amelia up with him. "We can't let them take Victor!" he growled.
Rebecca, still hacking the security system, spoke urgently over the radio. "I can seal off the hangar, but we need to get out now!"
"Do it, Rebecca! We're taking Victor and getting out of here!" Dominic replied.
Just as they began dragging Victor away from his men, one of them threw a smoke grenade toward them. In seconds, a thick cloud engulfed the area, reducing visibility to near zero.
"Damn it! Don't let him escape!" Dominic growled again.
Amid the swirling smoke, the sounds of scuffling and pained cries echoed. Moments later, as the haze began to clear, Victor was gone. His cuffs lay discarded on the ground beside one of his severely wounded men.
"He got away!" Amelia cursed, raising her weapon as her eyes darted around for any sign of him.
From the distance, the sound of a jet engine roaring to life filled the air. Dominic turned toward the runway and spotted Victor sprinting toward a small aircraft, its engine already ignited by one of his men.
"Not this time!" Dominic lifted his pistol, aiming at Victor, but before he could fire, a fresh barrage of bullets from the armored vehicle forced him to take cover again.
"Dominic, we can't hold out much longer!" Dante shouted.
Clenching his jaw in frustration, Dominic finally made his decision. "We're pulling out! Rebecca, open an escape route!"
Hearing his command, Rebecca quickly deactivated the security barriers she had set earlier. The main hangar doors began to slide open, and Dominic's team rushed toward their waiting vehicle outside.
As they climbed in, the deafening roar of Victor's jet taking off echoed through the night. Yes, this time, Victor had escaped.
"This isn't over, Victor." Dominic clenched his fists, his eyes locked onto the jet disappearing into the sky. His breaths were ragged, his fury burning hotter than ever.
"Damn it! We were so close!" Amelia snarled, slamming her fist against the vehicle's wall in frustration.
Dante grabbed his radio. "Rebecca, can you track where that jet is headed?"
Rebecca's voice came back tense. "I'll try, but he's using stealth mode. I only have a few seconds before he vanishes from the radar."
Dominic turned to Amelia. "Get to the gunner seat! We still have tracking missiles."
Wasting no time, Amelia climbed onto the vehicle's mounted turret and activated the targeting system. The screen locked onto Victor's jet, now only a few kilometers ahead.
"Target locked. Firing in three… two…"
Before she could press the launch button, another explosion erupted behind them, shaking the ground violently! Their vehicle lurched sideways from the impact of a direct hit from Victor's remaining forces.
"Damn it! They're still after us!" Marco shouted.
A storm of bullets rained down on them, forcing Dominic to grab his weapon and return fire.
Dante jumped into the driver's seat and shouted, "Hold on tight! We need to get out of here now!"
The engine roared as their vehicle sped through the battlefield, dodging incoming fire. Amelia, still positioned on top, steadied herself and fired a rocket at one of the pursuing vehicles. An explosion erupted, engulfing the enemy in flames.
"We need to reach the tunnel ahead!" Rebecca called out. "I can trap them inside!"
Dominic gave her a sharp nod. "Do it now! We need to make sure they can't follow us!"
At full speed, their vehicle raced toward a tunnel barely a few hundred meters away. But the enemy wasn't backing down—one of their men launched a missile directly at Dominic's team.
"Jump out! NOW!" Dominic yelled.
In a split second, they all leaped from the vehicle just before the missile struck, causing a massive explosion. Their bodies were thrown onto the ground, debris and shrapnel scattering around them.
Dominic gritted his teeth, tasting blood in his mouth as he wiped a fresh wound on his forehead. He turned to look at their burning vehicle, engulfed in flames.
Before they could recover, hurried footsteps approached. Victor's men were still advancing—this fight was far from over.
Dominic forced himself to crawl up, his ears ringing from the explosion. He panted heavily, trying to regain focus. Around him, Amelia, Dante, Marco, and Rebecca struggled to stand, their bodies bruised and battered.
From behind the smoke and wreckage, shadows emerged—Victor's remaining soldiers, moving forward with guns raised.
"We're surrounded," Amelia muttered, her voice tense with alertness.
Dominic narrowed his eyes, gripping his gun tightly. He looked at Rebecca. "I need an escape route. Now!"
"I'm working on it!" Rebecca replied urgently. "But they have drones scanning from above! If we don't move fast, they'll find us within seconds!"
Dante cursed under his breath. "We can't wait any longer!"
Without warning, one of Victor's men opened fire. Dominic and his team dove for cover behind scattered debris. Another gunfight erupted, bullets flying in all directions.
Marco shouted, "They're flanking us from the left!"
Dominic quickly turned and saw two hostiles attempting to cut off their path. He didn't hesitate—he fired, hitting one of them straight in the head while the other retreated.
Amelia seized the moment, tossing a smoke grenade. "Use the cover! We need to get out now!"
Dominic nodded. "Move!"
They sprinted through the thick smoke, dodging bullets, until they reached a narrow gap between two large containers. But just as they thought they had a way out, the sound of an approaching engine made them freeze.
An armored vehicle emerged from the haze, its floodlights blinding them.
"Get down!" Dominic shouted just as a barrage of bullets rained down on them.
"We won't survive this if we stay put!" Dante yelled.
Rebecca's voice came through the radio, firm and urgent. "I found a way out! There's a drainage tunnel 50 meters east! It's our only shot before they corner us completely!"
Dominic didn't hesitate. "Head east! NOW! Rebecca, stay close and be ready!"
With quick steps, they ran across the battlefield, filled with debris and bodies on the ground. Bullets kept flying from all directions, but they kept moving, ignoring the pain and exhaustion.
As they got closer to the drainage tunnel entrance, a familiar voice suddenly called out from behind them.
"Don't think you can escape that easily."
Dominic turned around and saw Victor standing on top of an armored vehicle, holding a long-barreled rifle. Even though his body was badly injured, his face still showed arrogance.
"You may have escaped my men," Victor said with a wicked grin, "but I will finish you myself."
