Chapter 34: Zhou Ru: What Does Bo Yanchen Amount To?
Zhou Sixue went to discuss the matter of the rumors with Old Huang.
Ji Chuxing stepped outside, frowning as she stared at the contact name on her phone: "Xingbao's Brother." Her forehead throbbed with irritation. Just as the call was about to disconnect, she finally picked up, her tone flat. "What do you want?"
On the other end, Bo Yanchen paused, absently fingering his prayer beads. "In a bad mood?"
"Hmph!" Ji Chuxing's lips curled slightly, and her unruly tuft of hair bounced along with her smirk. "Bo Er'ye, you really stick your nose into everything."
Yesterday, he had gone to the police station to bail her out. Today, she'd only dealt with the posts slandering Zhou Sixue, leaving everything else untouched.
Then his message came through—focus on your classes; leave the rest to your brother.
So it was him who added profile pictures to those follow-up posts.
Bo Yanchen raised an eyebrow, amused. "Didn't you say you didn't like calling me 'master'?"
Ji Chuxing fell silent for a moment, crunching the milk candy in her mouth. "Since you're older, I'll show you some respect."
"Older?" Bo Yanchen chuckled at the jab.
With a serious expression, Ji Chuxing replied, "I'm 17, you're 24—a seven-year gap. They say every three years is a generation gap. That makes two between us."
Bo Yanchen couldn't argue with that and laughed despite himself. "Fine, I'm old, and our Xingbao is young. Well, I've done so much for you, and not only do I get no thanks, but I'm also mocked for my age."
Ji Chuxing shot back, "I'm merely pointing out the obvious."
She wasn't mocking him.
Bo Yanchen wouldn't hold a grudge against a young girl. After everything that had happened over the past few days, he was concerned about her mental state. "I'll be waiting at the school gate. Come out, and I'll take you to eat."
But Ji Chuxing's attention wasn't on her phone. Just then, Zhou Ru passed by the flower bed opposite. Through the row of green plants, she heard her talking on the phone.
"Xingbao?" Bo Yanchen frowned.
Ji Chuxing hummed in response. "Hold on, I'll be out soon."
After hanging up, she headed toward the administrative building.
Zhou Ru had no idea that Ji Chuxing had been safe last night. Her plan to expel Ji Chuxing wasn't just idle thought—she had already contacted a rural boarding high school that morning.
Once Ji Chuxing was expelled, Zhou Ru would send her directly to the new school, which specialized in disciplining troubled students. Ji Chuxing simply didn't belong at Nan High. Everyone here was elite, children of prominent families from Nan City. With Ji Chuxing's temperament, offending anyone could harm the Wen family—and embarrass Zhou Ru even further.
Before the situation escalated, she needed to quietly expel Ji Chuxing and send her back to the countryside. After graduation, she could marry and stay away from Nan City forever. At most, Zhou Ru would give her 20,000 yuan annually; she couldn't bear the humiliation otherwise.
In the principal's office, the principal listened to Zhou Ru's request with surprise. Did Madam Wen not know that Ji Chuxing had been assisting the police? Did she think Ji Chuxing was in trouble?
This meant that last night, she hadn't cared—or even asked what happened. The principal's expression grew complex, tinged with anger. "Madam Wen, you may not fully understand the truth of the matter."
"What?" Zhou Ru was utterly confused. "Given what she's done, I can't bring myself to explain further. Let's just quietly expel her."
Before the principal could respond, a sarcastic voice cut in from the doorway. "Aunt, if I may be blunt, how can you call yourself a mother? No wonder Second Master Ji was left alone in the police station last night while you were nowhere to be found. I truly pity Second Master Ji!"
It was Zhou Sixue, who had just finished discussing hiring a lawyer with Old Huang and had come to inform the principal. She hadn't expected to overhear this conversation.
Zhao Feifei, trailing behind, rolled her eyes. "Sixue, don't waste your breath on her. This so-called mother is nothing but a fool. How could she possibly know that Second Master Ji received a commendation from Chief Qin for bravery? What a shame to have such useless eyes!"
Zhou Ru, still reeling from the shock, bristled at Zhao Feifei's words. Just as she was about to lash out, Teacher Huang interjected, "Excuse me, are you Madam Wen? You are no longer Ji Chuxing's guardian. Mr. Bo is her legal guardian now."
Though this had been mentioned before, and Ji Chuxing had formally severed ties, Zhou Ru hadn't taken it seriously. She assumed it was just a tantrum.
Sever ties?
There are no parents without faults. Even if there were misunderstandings, she couldn't let her daughter cut her off entirely. Hearing Teacher Huang's words, she sneered, "I am her mother. You mean Bo Yanchen, right?"
