Chapter 6: The Great City Barloc
As I woke up and got up from my bed to greet the morning ready to start the day.
It's been a few weeks but I still don't have enough iron for armor.
I can only manage to make 1 piece of iron ore in 6 hours of concentrating and spending little to nothing mana every minute so that I could regen as well since it takes so much mana, and I don't have any mana potions, or ingridiants for it.
So my best option for getting enough materials for better armor, weapons and tools has always been the same, and that is to get out of this village and explore the world, or at least the human territory.
But I don't know where to go after I leave, I only have a few months left.
Maybe Henry knows of a city that I could go to.
But I should also tell everyone that I'm planning to leave the village.
I just it will go well...
...
...
My family and I were having breakfast like usual, they were talking about the farm and some gossip they heard around the village.
I was seated in front of them, eating slowly gazing into the empty air trying to think how I should go about telling them, because the sooner I'll tell them, the more time they have to understand my ambitions.
I knew they would want to keep me safe for as long as they can, with them, but those are not my dreams.
I knew the outside world will be difficult to handle, after all the stories I've heard.
And that's why I was a bit nervous.
And my parents noticed it too.
"Is something wrong Anaya? You are usually more talkative, is something bothering you?" my mother asked me with a worried expression.
Here goes...
"Mom Dad... I want to leave this village"
The whole room came into silence after those last words left my mouth.
"YOU WHAT!!" both my parents shouted at me.
"I said that I wanted to leave this village."
"We heard you..., B-but why?" my mom asked.
"I want to travel around the world and help make a difference in the world and make it better for humans to live in. Being in this village will not accomplish that dream."
"You brat-!" my dad raised his hand with the intensios to hit me.
I grabbed his hand and stopped him.
"Dad, please, I'm going to become an adult soon, I need to make my own decisions..." I said.
"You know nothing of this world you little brat, I will not allow my only daughter to die just because of a stupid dream!!" my dad said back to me.
"It's not just a stupid dream dad!"
"Oh, it is, and I will not allow you to leave this village, even if I have to tie to a tree for the rest of your life!"
My fists started to clench and I started to get angry.
I knew talking to them wouldn't get me anywhere even if I tried convincing them over and over.
But I needed to try at least once.
However, it didn't work.
So I need to make accept the fact that I'm leaving soon.
By force...
"I'm sorry dad, but I'm asking for permission, I am just telling you beforehand. This is something I have already decided." I stood up and freed his hand from my grasp.
My mother was silent during all this time and finally said something.
"When are you leaving...?"
Her voice was quiet and calm, but I could still feel the sadness she was hiding behind her false calm demeanor.
"6 months from now, but don't worry, this is why I have been training all these years, I'm strong enough to survive" I told her with confidence to try and make her less worried.
However, it didn't work as well as I wanted it to.
"I see, will you come back?..." she asked.
"Yes, I will come back"
...
...
...
We continued eating after that.
But, the atmospheare has chenged completely, there was no talking at all at the table.
When I got outside the house, I heard my mother crying from inside the house, and my father trying to appease her.
For the first time in my life, I felt truly guilty.
Has this world really changed the once stone hearted assasin I once were.
It seems I am more human then I thought.
And now it is time for Henry to know.
While walking around the village I saw the few friends I made as a child.
My neighbours.
Some guards.
I knew everyone in this village, and they knew me quite well.
And I was going to leave this life behind.
Is it worth it? Leaving a completely peaceful life to save my entire race?
Yes, it is.
I'll be the hero they need.
"I will survive"
No matter what.
...
While I was lost in my thoughts I arrived at the training grounds.
Henry was waiting for me there like any other day, sitting on a tree enjoying the warm air.
"So, you finally arrived huh? What took so long?"
"I just had to take care of a few things" I said while taking a training sword and taking my stance.
"You look a bit tired, are you sure you want to have a spar?" He asked while taking another training sword.
"Yes, I'm sure I can still beat even while a bit tired"
"Alright, we'll see about that"
And our spar began, both weapons clashed against each other countless times, moving at really high speeds.
Each attack released a strong shockwave through my hands
But I couldn't care less
I continued to hit
Again and again
Again and again
Was I really strong enough?
I started doubting if my strength and skills were enough for me to survive.
And then I had a flashback to when I was killed by an arrow to the heart.
I didn't want to feel like that again, and I became angrier and angrier... Until
*Crack*
Ah...!
My sword broke because I accidentally used too much strength...
While I was distracted something hit me in the head and I fell to the floor.
"Jeez, I never thought I'll ever be able to defeat you after our first spar, tell me, what's wrong?"
I guess I was a bit heated after breakfast...
"I want to leave this village" I said bluntly.
His eyes widened for a second, but he quickly composed himself
"What happened to your goal on protecting your loved ones?" he said in a serious tone, more serious than I have seen him before.
So he remembered what I said.
I may have said the truth but not all of it.
I want to protect more than my loved ones, I want to protect humanity.
And I have reasons.
During my time here in the village I saw just how powerless we humans are compared to the other races.
Thankfully our village is mostly self sufficient, so we don't need to trade that much with other cities, because we produce our own food.
However there were still problems.
There were difficult moments where we had little to no food.
But we managed to survive that.
I wanted to save the ones who have it worse than me.
Just because I can.
"I want to protect humanity, I want to make this world a better place for us humans to live in harmony with the other races. A world where the monsters fear us and us them. I don't want to make a perfect world, because it is impossible, I just want to make a better world, for my family and everyone else."
"..."
He fell silent for a moment, but after that his answer surprised me.
"Do you know where you will go?"
I expected him to change my mind...
"Ah... No, I do not."
I really didn't know where to go.
"Such recklessness... Wait for me a bit."
"Alright"
After waiting for a few minutes he came back with what seemed to me like a map.
"Take it, it's a map, this way you'll know where you'll go. Though I recommend Barloc city, that's the capital of this country, there you will find a vast amount of weapons and products to survive."
This picked my intrest.
"Alright"
"Though it has been decades since I have been to that place, so they might not let you in, they couldn't want more mouths to feed. Lately I've heard resources in our territory are getting even more scarce, and as the weakest race we have no choice but get resources from our territory."
And there's the catch I've been waiting for about this city.
But no matter.
I will go to Barloc city.
And in only a few months my journey will begin.
