Telos Karma Meta Gacha

Chapter 4: First Roll

[Hajime POV]

Activating Telos Karma, I saw the screen pop up again. I don't think I'll get distracted anymore. While there's a lot that I still need to process, I can do that later.

From what I knew about Telos Karma, it works by creating and forcing options and choices that aren't normally possible. Very vague.

For example, if I was fighting a skilled swordsman, Telos Karma could change reality to have me stand a chance, even if they are much more experienced.

They would trip despite the amount of time put into their footwork.

The sun might reflect off their sword, blinding them momentarily.

They might even just miss due to a large gust of wind they weren't prepared for pushing them.

Suffice to say, it was broken.

Even though any of these situations might seem like pure chance, Telos Karma doesn't care. No matter if it seems realistic or not, it will alter things in its favor.

It's not perfect, however. If I wanted to have a devil survive an attack with holy magic for example I could, but they would still be injured. I could minimize the injury or have the spell miss, but there is still some grounding in reality.

So while I could cause a low-class mage to survive an ultimate-class threat, having them win would be impossible. Telos Karma could make it so an old enemy of the ultimate-class arrives just in time.

Is it powerful? Yes, but it still has its weaknesses.

Like all sacred gears, it is dependent on stamina, so if the most unhealthy person in the world got it, they wouldn't be able to change much at any given time.

There is also Rizevim's ability to cancel sacred gears, but Telos Karma might be able to avoid it, it's hard to say since the original wielder was a background character and human, even if he did have Innovate Clear as well, so he'd never face the psycho.

The biggest weakness though is power. It could affect an entire city if the wielder was strong enough, but would be almost impossible to affect someone like Sirzechs or Michael. The stronger the person it is used against, the more energy it takes to manipulate things, and the cost is exponential, just like luck.

There wasn't much information besides its basic functions that was known. It is the strangest of the Longinus due to its very nature, but what was known was either told from past wielders or inferred from their usage.

As I looked at the blue screen, I was shocked more and more by what I read.

{ Telos Karma Meta Gacha }

{ You will earn 1 gacha roll every day. }

{ Can 'stack' rolls for higher guaranteed value reward. }

{ By spinning the gacha, it is possible to gain people, items, powers, and more from all works of fiction and beyond. }

{ Other consumables can increase power, modify items' appearances, change character personalities, and other random benefits. One-time use only.}

{ All items gained will be stored inside an 'inventory' until used. No other objects can enter. }

{ All character cards will show their potential uses. }

(A/N: This was mostly taken from Meta Essence Gacha, but slightly changed. Read that story if you haven't.)

When I finished reading the gacha's information I started laughing.

I had a subspecies from the looks of it, probably because of how Carl affected me in such a short time, and from what it said, this gacha was perfect.

The item could be extremely overpowered or completely useless depending on my luck is. It could give me a trash can just as easily as I could get the power of Superman or anything else in between.

With a power like this, it would be easy to help Yasaka and the yokai, but just as much needs to be a secret. If other factions found out he could gift random people godlike power they would all try and kill him immediately.

Ironically if that happened his only hope to survive would be someone like Rizevim. He wishes to plunge everything into chaos, so he'd gladly protect someone with the power to do so, and if it meant protecting the yokai, I'd probably agree.

Psychopath or not, if working for the man meant protecting my family and home then it would be worth it. Besides, I could always betray him later, something his ideology would likely condone. He believes that devils should do whatever they want to cause chaos, and though I'm not a devil, humans are basically just non-magical devils if you look at our true natures.

Alright, let's do this!

{ Rolling }

{ . . . }

{ You have obtained Laxus Dreyar. }

Interesting.

Laxus is a great first roll. While he isn't the strongest character, he's one of the best of Fairy Tail at the start of the series. Unfortunately, despite his strength, he stagnates in strength during the show.

It's not surprising, since he was similar to God Serena in that aspect. They both believed that thanks to the Lacrima inside them they were untouchable, and after a while likely stopped training since they were already strong enough to beat most of their opponents easily.

Serena was much stronger than Laxus, but having 8 dragon lacrima shoved inside you would do that.

Even still Laxus was an S-class mage at 17, which shows how high his talent is. His biggest problem was simply the fact that he was given his lacrima from his father, which led him to be arrogant and waste any talent he had.

Had he gotten it as a quest reward or found it himself he might have trained more realizing it was through his efforts or pure luck that he was so strong. Instead, because his father gave it to him, he felt his strength was because it came from his family and wasn't his.

Speaking of his power, lightning dragon slayer magic is really powerful, with the only thing stronger being the god slayer version. Lightning is a powerful element as shown by people like Enel and Sasuke. Lightning magic has useful applications such as flight, paralysis, heat, piercing, magnetism, and sensing.

The dragon-slaying aspect is the best part of this power though. Firstly, it allows me to eat the lightning of anyone who isn't a god. Using that energy I can refill my magic reserves, and it's any kind of electricity.

While not everyone uses lightning, there are many powerful dragons, such as Crom Cruach or any of the evil dragons that Rizevim has revived. There are also the White and Red Dragon Emperors, the Dragon Kings, and the Dragon Gods. With how prominent and strong dragons are in this world, being able to counter them is extremely useful.

Speaking of the Dragon Gods, would god slayer magic work on them too?

There's also the ability to absorb the energy of any dragons the user kills. I wonder if killing and resurrecting dragons constantly would give me infinite energy or would just take it from their reserves? Something to test on the evil dragons if I ever can.

Taking the card out of my gacha inventory, I read the functions of the card.

{ Laxus Dreyar }

{ Assimilate } { Summon }

{ Assimilating [Laxus Dreyar] will give you all his memories and powers. You will be able to shapeshift parts of yourself to look like him. To speed up assimilation act like [Laxus Dreyar] would. Can add assimilation to others if desired. }

{ Summoning [Laxus Dreyar] will bring a version into your world. Will not be capable of betrayal in any capacity, but will not listen to you unwillingly. }

Reading over the card gave me a lot of information with only two choices. I could either assimilate it to strengthen myself or others or summon him to get a subordinate.

Despite that, I'm obviously assimilating him. I'm currently weak, so I need a way to defend myself.

I could just summon him as a bodyguard, but there's no guarantee he will listen to me, especially since I'm weaker than him and have nothing to give him. I could always give him more power, but why do that when I can strengthen myself?

Slotting the card into the assimilation slot, I saw that it was only at 6%, likely because I was just a weak kid before getting lightning dragon slayer magic, just like what happened with Laxus. I'm also part yokai, but even if I can't use youjutsu, I still get a slightly enhanced mana reserve.

I can already feel myself getting stronger, even if it's only 6% of Laxus' power. My muscles feel more powerful and my mana reserves have gone up.

Standing in my living room, I immediately start testing my new powers. I start by simply flowing my magic throughout my body to enhance myself. When I do it's extremely rough. Electricity is arcing across my body, and my mana is quickly draining.

The first thing I need to work on after this is control. I'll easily get stronger with future assimilations, but control is far more important. High control can help save on mana wastage during an attack, allowing a mage to use stronger attacks more often.

Turning off the enhancement I then focused on a simple bolt spell.

Gathering magic (or would it be ethernano in this case?) into my hand, trying to form a ball. When I have enough gathered, I launch it forward. The bolt slams into the back of my couch, leaving a large burn mark on the back.

Damn it.

That's what I get for playing with magic indoors, but still worth it.

Despite Yasaka offering me a tutor for human magic years ago, I declined. Don't get me wrong, I did want to use magic, but human magic is annoying. It requires multiple calculations to cast a single spell, which is fine for anyone who wants to be a mage; but as a yokai, being unable to use magic that I should be able to is disheartening.

This must be what Sairaorg feels like being unable to use his clan trait.

Testing out my magic with a few more spells, I quickly end up exhausted and with my reserves empty. I may have just woken up, but honestly after everything that happened my mind still needs rest.

Going into my room, I fall back onto the covers, before quickly falling asleep

[Yasaka POV]

As I was filling out paperwork on a new street being added to Urakyoto, I felt a small buzzing in the back of my mind.

Shit!

That's the magic sensing boundary I had installed at Hajime's house! Why would someone go there? Kunou is with one of her tutors, and he doesn't have anybody else visit his home.

I need to investigate this.

"Miyuki!" Calling my assistant in, the nekomata quickly enters.

"Yes, Lady Yasaka?"

"I need to check on something. If anyone needs me, tell them I'll be back soon." She nods before I teleport over. If someone attacks him, there'll be hell to pay. I won't fail him like I did his mother.

Author's Note:

Since the gacha is now in use, feel free to add things you want to see (mostly because otherwise I'll likely only use things from well-known shows). I won't show every gacha, but I will be keeping a running tab of unused items. It could also just be a custom thing, depending on the item I could just add it to the world naturally.

Also here's an image of Miyuki. I only plan on adding pictures of OCs that will be mentioned more than once. Carl Roberts was a one-off. As for Hajime, just imagine a Japanese guy.

I'm so glad for the 'review previous versions' because I accidentally deleted this chapter thanks to the app's sync feature. Had a mini heart attack there.

Anyway, thanks for reading! I'll see you all next time.

Next chapter will be updated first on this website. Come back and continue reading tomorrow, everyone!
