"Charizard, Steel Wing!"

Rhydon's Rock Slide was devastatingly effective against Charizard, but Steel Wing had a similar advantage over Rhydon.

Rhydon slammed its fists into the ground, sending a wave of cracks across the field.

Then, digging its claws into the ground, it hoisted a massive boulder and hurled it at Charizard.

The rock hurtled forward with a piercing whistle.

Charizard, unflinching, beat its wings.

Air currents swirled around Charizard, and thanks to the lingering dampness on the field from the earlier rain, no dust kicked up.

Ascending gracefully, Charizard displayed the same agility it had used to dodge Blastoise's Muddy Water before.

As each boulder came crashing down, Charizard weaved through them with expert precision, tracing elegant arcs through the air.

At the same time, Charizard's wings began to glow with a metallic sheen, a steely layer spreading across their surface.

Then, Charizard headed straight for one of the massive rocks.

Slash!

Crack!

With a single swipe of its wing, Charizard split a boulder nearly two-thirds its own size clean in half, sending the pieces crashing to the ground.

Not slowing down, Charizard ascended briefly, then dived, adding the momentum of its descent as it plummeted toward Rhydon.

Gary instantly noticed the danger.

His first thought was to tell Rhydon to dodge, but with Charizard's speed and Rhydon's bulk, evading would be nearly impossible.

That left Gary with only one option.

"Rhydon, use Protect!"

At Gary's command, Rhydon crossed its arms in front of its body, generating a faint blue energy shield.

Charizard, moving at incredible speed, reached Rhydon within seconds after Protect was activated.

Boom!

Steel Wing collided with the Protect shield, emitting a low, resounding thud.

The barrier crackled, lines of strain appearing across its surface.

But it held.

Seizing the opportunity created by Charizard's close proximity, Gary quickly ordered, "Rhydon, Rock Tomb!"

Rhydon raised a boulder with its massive hands, aiming to pin Charizard's wings and restrict its movement.

But Luo Yuan, already anticipating this from the moment he saw Rhydon's Protect, telepathically sent his command to Charizard.

"Charizard, Brick Break, then... Flare Blitz!"

Hooah!

Charizard understood instantly.

Its claw, glowing with a white light, chopped down on the rock.

From Professor Oak and Gary's perspective, it appeared that Charizard had initiated a counter on its own, without any prompt from Luo Yuan.

Crack!

The boulder shattered in two under Brick Break.

While Rhydon was momentarily thrown off, Charizard's body erupted in flames, its entire frame engulfed as it charged Rhydon in a fiery blitz.

Professor Oak's eyes lit up with admiration. To counter Rhydon's attack so precisely and flow so seamlessly into a counterstrike was extraordinary.

Charizard, cloaked in flames, slammed full-force into Rhydon's chest.

According to official data, Rhydon was generally about a third heavier than Charizard.

Yet the sheer impact from Flare Blitz sent Rhydon stumbling backward.

The intense flames seared Rhydon's rocky hide, though its heat-resistant skin, capable of withstanding temperatures exceeding two thousand degrees, shielded it from burn damage.

But Flare Blitz wasn't just about "blitz"; it was also about the raw, bone-shaking force of impact.

The blow transmitted through Rhydon's rock-hard exterior, reverberating throughout its body.

Rhydon could almost feel its bones creak under the strain.

Yet, even under such pressure, Rhydon didn't cower. Instead, it threw a punch back at Charizard.

"Dynamic Punch!"

Rhydon's fist crashed into Charizard's forearm, forcing Charizard to retreat with a grimace.

Seeing Rhydon retaliate, Gary's initial panic gave way to a renewed focus.

"Rhydon, use Stone Edge!"

Dynamic Punch had granted Rhydon a brief moment to recover, and Gary seized this opening to coordinate a counterattack.

Rhydon stomped on the ground.

A jagged rock formed, then launched toward Charizard under Rhydon's command.

Stone Edge, a Rock-type powerhouse move, could seriously wound Charizard if it connected.

But would Charizard let itself be hit so easily?

As it regained its stance, Charizard received a telepathic alert from Luo Yuan, signaling the Stone Edge's trajectory.

Charizard quickly beat its wings, retreating backward.

Three Fire Blasts shot toward the sharp stone in rapid succession.

Two of the Fire Blasts collided with the incoming Stone Edge rocks, shattering them and sending shards flying.

Then, through the residual flames of the explosion, the third Fire Blast shot straight toward Rhydon.

Rhydon, focused on following Gary's commands to prepare a new move, didn't see the fireball until it was too late.

Under normal circumstances, Protect would be the obvious choice.

But since Rhydon had just used Protect recently, success wasn't guaranteed if used again immediately.

In the heat of the moment, Rhydon instinctively raised its arm to shield itself.

Boom!

The third Fire Blast engulfed Rhydon.

"Hang on, Rhydon!" Gary called, his voice full of concern.

Whoosh!

Charizard flapped its wings, clearing the smoke from the explosion, revealing Rhydon with its arms scorched, swaying slightly but still standing.

If it was still standing, that meant there was still a chance!

Seeing this, Gary's spirits lifted. He took a deep breath and called out, "Excellent, Rhydon…!"

He was about to command Rhydon to create some distance from Charizard and regroup.

Buying some time would be crucial.

Gary firmly believed that given an opportunity, his Rock-type Rhydon could turn the tables against Charizard.

However, before he could finish his thought, Charizard unleashed a fresh wave of five Fire Blasts.
