Chapter 27: Chapter 27: A Week to Remember
The week Zara spent with her mom and sister became a cherished series of memories, each day filled with laughter, relaxation, and the warmth of family that she knew she'd hold onto once she left for her business trip.
On Monday, they started with a day at the spa, where every ounce of stress seemed to melt away. They lounged in fluffy robes, soaked in soothing aromatherapy oils, and chatted endlessly between treatments. It was the kind of calm Zara needed to recharge after the intensity of her recent days at work. The three of them left with glowing skin and even brighter spirits, feeling refreshed and connected.
Tuesday was the exact opposite—a thrill-filled day at the amusement park. Zara hadn't screamed so much in ages, laughing as her mom clung to her arm on every roller coaster, while Jade dared her to try the craziest rides. They all walked away with cotton candy in hand, full of excitement and shared memories that made them feel like kids again.
On Wednesday, they headed to the cinema for a movie marathon and then spent the afternoon exploring the mall. Zara picked up a few last-minute items for her trip, including some small gifts for her mom and Jade as mementos. They laughed at random things, ate pretzels, and took endless photos in the store mirrors, just because they could.
Thursday brought them to the zoo, where Jade insisted on taking pictures with every single animal they came across, making Zara laugh at her sister's enthusiasm. They marveled at the wildlife, Jade trying to name every animal correctly and their mom attempting to keep up. It was moments like these that reminded Zara just how much she loved the simplicity of family time.
By Friday, they decided to stay home, settling into the couch to binge the newly released season of Outer Banks together. They were all wrapped up in blankets, popcorn bowls scattered around, and their eyes glued to the screen as they reacted to each twist and turn.
Every now and then, Zara's mind drifted to her father, wondering what it would've been like if he were there with them. She kept the thought to herself, though it lingered, leaving a bittersweet note that she couldn't quite shake. Even so, she told herself that she was grateful for what she did have—for her mom and her sister, who were her everything.
The week passed by in a blur of love, laughter, and quiet reflection, each day a precious moment she'd carry with her as she prepared to head off for work.
