Chapter 876: Slayers Of The Swarm [Part 1]
Nick and the other Squad Captains were relieved when Zion decided to let his men rest for three days before venturing out in the open.
The soldiers were also very thankful for their short break and followed Cristopher's orders to take turns guarding the area Alcapone had defended before he and his comrades boarded the ship to head back to the Sirius Continent.
Just like Thirteen expected, nothing had happened during the last three days that they were in the city.
Finally, when it was time to leave, the teenage boy sat on the saddle of Sherry's Armored Blade Panther, Mors.
As for the young lady, she sat behind him, holding onto his waist.
Since they were currently on military grounds, she didn't stick her body on the teenage boy, knowing it would be inappropriate.
The members of the 69th Battalion all had Night Wolves as their land mount and Gyrfalcons as their aerial mounts, which became one of their trademarks in the military aside from their nearly blinding military uniforms that gave the eyes of Nick and his subordinates a hard time.
Feeling pity for them, the soldiers lent them some sunglasses to shield their eyes. As per Thirteen's instructions, all of them carried four pairs of sunglasses each.
Riding a gray rhinoceros, Nick traveled beside Zion, feeling anxious as they headed toward the Spiderling territory.
His subordinates shared his anxiety. After all, they had been fighting against the Spiderlings for the past three months.
They moved very fast and liked to jump, which had taken the soldiers by surprise when they first invaded Palisade City.
Fortunately, the city's defense was solid, allowing the soldiers to regain momentum and push back the spider swarm to where they came from.
And yet, they were now taking a stroll on the Spiderlings' home turf, without the protection of the sixty-story buildings that kept them safe.
Suddenly, the ground under their feet shook, making Nick and his soldiers cry out in shock.
The members of the 69th Battalion, on the other hand, took out their rifles and scanned their surroundings.
Hugo and his Night Wolf were right beside Zion, ready to protect his commander the moment his life was in danger.
Screeches then spread in the surroundings as countless Spiderlings rose from the ground, sending dirt and gravel flying in every direction.
However, instead of attacking the Soldiers, all of them ran away in the opposite direction, fleeing for their lives.
This sudden turn of events made the soldiers unable to believe what was happening in front of them.
Thirteen, on the other hand, simply watched this scene with a faint smile on his face.
Deep underground, Rocky and Tiona, as well as the Demons under her command, wreaked havoc in the Spider Colony.
Rocky made short work of the Broodmothers, who didn't stand a chance in the first place.
The Rank 4 Red-Skull Spider, the strongest of them, was barbecued to a crisp by the Hellfire Bal-Boa, who was a Rank 8 Sovereign.
The Spiderlings, who were all preparing for war, suddenly felt the threat coming from underneath the ground, so they hurriedly rose to the surface to escape.
However, Tiona was waiting for them, and a one-sided massacre took place.
But since the Spiderlings numbered in the thousands, and Tiona's team only numbered in the hundreds, thousands of Spiderlings were still able to escape.
These were the Spiderlings that the soldiers saw above ground, which fled in fear instead of engaging them in battle.
"69th Battalion, hear my orders!" Thirteen shouted. "Hunt the Spiderlings down! I don't want to see any survivors. Do I make myself clear?!"
""Sir, Yes Sir!""
Cristopher and Colbert replied at the same time. Any order from their Young Master must be carried out without fail.
The reply of the two Captains broke the remaining soldiers from their daze, as they, too, followed behind Cristopher and Colbert.
Vincent, who was now part of the 69th Battalion, was under Colbert's command. Thirteen believed that his third-in-command would be able to reign in Vincent better than Cristopher, who was honest and straightforward.
The third Captain, who was also part of Thirteen's team, was none other than Alexis Mcknight.
He was the spy Douglas Griffin had planted in the 69th Battalion to monitor Thirteen's soldiers.
However, Thirteen and Colbert had already discovered this long ago. The teenage boy even flat-out said that it was fine for Alexis to become Douglas' spy and profit from it.
Alexis wasn't the only spy inside Thirteen's Battalion. The other Monarch Clans, as well as the other Prestigious Families, had long planted their own spies to monitor the teenage boy's movements.
And just like Alexis, Thirteen had also talked to these people and even encouraged them to do a good job at spying on him.
"Just make sure to give me 50% of any profit you gained from spying on me."
That was the condition the teenage boy had set for them after he exposed their identity.
These soldiers even felt awkward at the time. They had just joined yet their cover was blown right away.
Still, since their Commander didn't make things difficult for them, they decided to simply follow his orders and continued being a spy for their respective employers.
Since both sides could profit from each other, it was a win-win for everyone!
Not to mention, Thirteen wasn't the least bit worried about information leaks since his real movements were hidden in the dark.
Simply put, letting the spies do their work would make the Monarch Clans and the Prestigious Families think that they were watching Zion's every move and that they could predict what he was going to do next.
Nick didn't know if he should follow the 69th Battalion in exterminating the Spiderlings or remain beside Thirteen to keep him safe.
The teenage boy didn't tell him what to do, and the former simply tapped on his communicator as if sending a message to someone.
In reality, Thirteen merely put up an act and secretly communicated with Rocky and Tiona through their connection, telling them what they should do next.
He had no intention of letting a single spider escape, so Rocky, Tiona, the Demons, and their clones, which now numbered three hundred, went to hunt down the escaping Spiderlings, who would not see the sunrise again the next day.
