Chapter 18 - Golden Generation (1)
“Vice Chancellor.”
Cecilia Freire, the Vice Chancellor of Iroaz Academy, stared at the person who urgently requested a private audience.
It was Kim Hyungwoo, the martial arts instructor specializing in fist techniques.
“Fifteen members of Changcheon Guild’s 1st Attack Team have infiltrated the forest grand park. It seems they infiltrated on the orders of the Ten Venerable, Sword Emperor So Daecheol, who is the Guild Master.”
Cecilia asked while stroking her blonde hair.
There was no reason for a guild like Changcheon to bring in outsiders without a reason.
“Who is the target?”
“Judging from the confrontation situation, it seems to be the new student representative, Lee Dojin.”
“Sword Emperor So Daecheol, it seems he chose the forest instead of entering the academy, showing some restraint, but he must be quite angry… Lee Dojin. That’s definitely the student who took the entrance exam with a wooden sword, right?”
Kim Hyungwoo nodded.
“Yes, should we intervene before a fight breaks out?”
Cecilia opened the window and chanted a magic spell.
The left eye was the ‘Eye of Truth’. The right was the ‘Eye of a Thousand Miles’.
Both of Cecilia’s eyes glowed blue.
She encounters the target she wants to observe beyond the structures.
Lee Dojin and the 15 men in front of him came into view.
Cecilia observed their movements in detail.
There was not a trace of fear or hesitation in Lee Dojin’s body.
‘On the contrary, his aura is getting bigger and bigger.’
Cecilia slowly shook her head.
“Leave it be. It seems he has something he believes in, and there are probably a few more people in roles of situation reporting or surveillance besides them. Just relay that to the student council.”
Kim Hyungwoo furrowed his brow. By his common sense, no matter how he thought about it, this was a situation where the academy should intervene.
Cecilia smirked.
“If I thought Student Lee Dojin would lose miserably, I would have had the instructors intervene, of course.”
Kim Hyungwoo’s eyes widened.
“You mean?”
“Yes, it seems that friend will win.”
“If someone that age defeats 15 members of Changcheon’s 1st Attack Team alone, isn’t that a genius unseen in this world for several decades?”
Cecilia laughed loudly, chuckling at Kim Hyungwoo’s fuss.
“Instructor Kim Hyungwoo. Are you aware that you’ve been saying those words every year at this time for nearly 4 years?”
Kim Hyungwoo thought for a moment with his mouth open.
“Cer-certainly. There has been one genius per year for the past 4 years. Student Lee Dojin seems even more outstanding among them.”
“That’s right. The two currently in the student council and the other one are sacred beings that have never appeared in the hunter world before. Like, I think it’s an opportunity given by God.”
One person per year.
Beings worthy of being called geniuses have been appearing.
“The Golden Generation. That’s what I want to call the current students.”
“The Golden Generation…”
“And that Golden Generation will have to conquer the Tower.”
The transparent 『Tower』 faintly visible in the sky through Cecilia’s eyes.
It was an unknown calamity that others couldn’t even see a vague form of.
“In front of the Tower’s apostles, even those currently called SS-rank hunters would kneel and feel only fear.”
“…That’s right.”
Kim Hyungwoo’s complexion darkened rapidly.
『Tower』.
Inside the Tower, on each floor, there are beings with power equivalent to or greater than monsters capable of destroying a single country.
Ten years.
If a certain level of the Tower is not conquered every 10 years, the Tower loses its power to suppress those beings and collapses.
That was the rule that appeared before the eyes of the 1st generation conquerors when the Tower first appeared.
The Tower is gradually descending.
The sacrifices and blood of numerous 1st generation hunters are merely suppressing the Tower’s descent.
“I believe we have a mission to raise this God-given Golden Generation… to become saviors who will save the world.”
All citizens know about Gates and dungeons.
Only high-ranking government officials and top-tier hunters know about the existence of the Tower.
Because in front of the Tower, all the S, A, B, C rankings that the hunter society has established so far become mere scraps of paper.
People will tremble in fear.
They will cry out that the end of the world has finally come.
That hellish scene of the first day of the great cataclysm would unfold again.
“I’ll have a lot to say when the Chancellor returns.”
Vice Chancellor Cecilia’s two eyes, the ‘Eye of Truth’, penetrated even the dense forest and the sight-blocking artifact.
The image of Lee Dojin single-handedly incapacitating the 15 members of Changcheon’s 1st Attack Team was captured in her eyes.
Lee Dojin stepped forward, ignoring the 1st Attack Team members sprawled on the ground.
Crack!
Without hesitation, Lee Dojin stepped on and destroyed the device generating the sight-blocking dome artifact.
The circular dome was lifted.
Rustle!
Lee Dojin sensed a presence and turned around.
Thud!
And a dull sound that couldn’t be called a presence was heard.
A silver-haired woman was gripping a man’s collar and swinging her fist.
The man’s face was already a bloody mess.
“This forest grand park, and of course, the main road in front, are the owned territory of Iroaz Academy. I am Yeon Simun, the vice president of the student council with security clearance within the territory. From now on, I will execute the suppression of intruders according to procedure.”
You’ve already executed it.
The silver-haired woman, Yeon Simun, put the camera the man was holding into a subspace pocket.
Then she turned her head towards Lee Dojin.
Golden pupils.
The golden eyes stared intently at Lee Dojin.
Clearly neatly arranged long silver hair.
But perhaps because of the sharp-looking golden eyes, it felt like looking at a lion.
‘A fist user?’
She looked like a martial artist who uses fists.
Yeon Simun, the vice president of the student council, gestured with her chin while looking at Lee Dojin.
“Name.”
Lee Dojin bowed his head slightly.
“First-year Lee Dojin.”
“So, you’re that crazy guy with the wooden sword.”
Although only two days had passed since Lee Dojin’s admission, he was quite famous among the student council members.
The student council students were able to see the entrance exam video using their connections.
Yeon Simun stared intently at the wooden sword in Lee Dojin’s right hand.
“I sincerely hope there’s no intention to insult martial arts in your reason for using that wooden sword.”
What… what?
Lee Dojin blankly stared at Yeon Simun, who was saying such truly serious words.
“I have no such intention at all.”
“Then that’s fine.”
Yeon Simun stared at So Yueun, who was sitting dejectedly on the ground.
At that moment, something else burst out from the bushes.
A being clad entirely in black muttered in a low voice.
While calmly carrying So Yueun in a ‘princess carry’ pose.
“It’s Changcheon. We have no intention to fight. We’ll just take the young miss.”
Yeon Simun tilted her head.
“What nonsense.”
And without a moment’s hesitation, she thrust her fist.
Boom!
The sound of wind pressure bursting echoed through the grand park.
“…!”
Yeon Simun narrowed her brow. Because she felt no sense of impact.
The black being disappeared far away, carrying So Yueun while scattering gray smoke.
“An awakened one optimized for stealth and escape, huh.”
Yeon Simun clicked her tongue.
Lee Dojin stared in the direction where the black being had disappeared.
He deliberately didn’t interfere with them taking So Yueun and escaping.
If she were to be interrogated together, it could become awkward for him too.
Anyway, he intended to tie up the loose ends of this matter himself.
‘Sword Emperor So Daecheol.’
A person unfit for the title of Sword Emperor.
On the day when the first semester schedule ends and summer vacation begins.
He planned to visit the
Their first meeting was also during summer vacation.
After a moment of silence, Yeon Simun was the first to speak.
“Lee Dojin.”
“Yes, senior.”
“You need to see the Vice Chancellor and explain this incident. Follow me.”
Lee Dojin nodded.
Nevertheless, Yeon Simun stared intently at Lee Dojin. Then she opened her mouth again.
“Come here.”
Lee Dojin approached silently.
“The waist of your uniform is twisted.”
Without hesitation, Yeon Simun grabbed Lee Dojin’s clothes and fixed his appearance.
Lee Dojin couldn’t even begin to guess what kind of personality the woman in front of him had.
“Welcome, Student Lee Dojin.”
Vice Chancellor Cecilia of the academy greeted Lee Dojin with a smile in her eyes.
Yeon Simun, the vice president of the student council, only brought Lee Dojin and didn’t enter.
“The field agents provided emergency treatment to the 15 people Lee Dojin knocked down and also interrogated them, but there was no gain. What exactly is the state of conflict with Changcheon Guild? Lee Dojin.”
Lee Dojin opened his mouth, looking at Cecilia tucking her blonde hair behind her ear.
“It’s a private matter between Changcheon Guild and me. From now on, I won’t cause any harm to Iroaz Academy.”
“Hmm, you might not intend to, Lee Dojin, but couldn’t Changcheon think differently?”
“I gave a warning, and I think they understood that warning sufficiently. If something like this happens again, I’ll take responsibility somehow.”
Cecilia slowly shook her head.
“I have no intention of reproaching you, Lee Dojin. It’s concern about an individual confronting a guild. Because you are a precious academy student.”
“Thank you for your concern.”
“You may go now, Lee Dojin.”
Lee Dojin bowed his waist.
And he opened the door of the Vice Chancellor’s office and went outside.
Cecilia murmured softly.
“I have high expectations, Lee Dojin.”
As Lee Dojin opened the door of the Vice Chancellor’s office and stepped out, he heard Yeon Simun’s baritone muttering in his ear.
“Jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, jjajangmyeon…”
“…?”
What kind of incantation is that?
“Senior, haven’t you eaten yet? Would you like to eat together?”
“I’ll eat if you’re buying.”
“Yes, I’ll treat you.”
Late at night.
A dinner appointment between opposite sexes on campus.
But the thoughts in both their heads were far from the ideal of a late-night dinner appointment.
‘I should ask how many strong students there are in the academy.’
‘Which of the two should I eat?’
