chapter 9
9 – interview
Damn it, knock it, knock it.
I arrived in front of the main headquarters of the academy by carriage.
‘This is the Imperial Academy.’
I didn’t have time to take a long look at the building.
The examiners who had followed me from the entrance exam center led me straight to the dean’s office.
smart.
“Who is it?”
“This is Alex. As I contacted you in advance, I have brought the second prince of the Drake Kingdom.”
“Come in.”
The dean’s office looks like a normal office.
Round tables and sofas to sit and hold meetings, desks and study rooms for work.
I sat in a chair and looked at the old man who was doing his homework.
The name engraved on the nameplate is Bernacel.
He was the dean of the Imperial Academy.
Startle.
Bernassel met my gaze and blurred his eyes for a moment.
I let go of the fountain pen I was holding in my hand.
My neck stiffened and my arms stiffened.
“I am Demesis Kal Leg Drakan. I heard you called me here. Do you have something to say about the special admission?”
I spoke in a low, calm tone to help him come to his senses.
“Yes, hello. My name is Bernasel, who is the dean of the Gloria Imperial Academy.”
Bernacel belatedly lowered her eyes and greeted me.
He looked much older than me on the outside, but it wasn’t strange that he treated me with respect from the very beginning.
If anyone sees me, they speak up.
“Oh, so you were like this. This is worse than I thought, no, I can’t even breathe.”
He tried to speak calmly, but eventually began to use magical powers to protect himself.
It was rude to cast a protection spell on yourself in front of guests, but everyone prioritizes their own survival.
He felt afraid even if I just stared at him, and he managed to overcome the pressure by piling on protective magic.
“Alex, don’t go out and stand by me. It’s too embarrassing to be so nervous.”
Even an examiner named Alex works as a bodyguard and puts it next to him.
Alex, who seemed to be full of thoughts of running away from me, walked past me with a contemplative face at the dean’s request and stood next to him.
“Hey, Demesis. Küu, could you lower your magic power a little?”
The dean seemed quite calm and benevolent, but in front of me he asked with a relaxed face.
“This is what drained my strength to the fullest. In addition, he is wearing a special item for mana control.”
I lifted my arm to show the bracelet and pulled the hood down to accentuate the cape.
Everyone says they can’t stand my magic and atmosphere, but for me this was the best.
I was living in a state where the strength was drained from my body all the time.
I can’t help it if you say that even sitting in front of me is burdensome even though I’m wearing the magic control item that the court wizard made for me, and I’m wearing the magic control item made by the court wizard.
“Then I understand. hehehe, I thought I’d met many people, but this is the first time I’ve felt this kind of pressure.”
The dean forced a nice smile on his face and broke into a cold sweat.
He maintains a decent demeanor, but he’ll want to leave and run away right now.
“It doesn’t seem like we are in a situation where we can continue to relax, so let’s get right to the point. Why are you taking me out of the entrance exam and talking about special admission?”
I asked why you called me here.
“I heard about Demesis in advance. Drake and the King contacted me several times, to be careful. However, according to the academy’s principle, everyone has to take the entrance exam, so we took the test out of necessity, but we can’t do it anymore.”
“What if?”
“I mean, the other students fainted. Instead of taking the entrance exam, I decided to meet Demesis-nim in person and decide whether to pass.”
interview by myself.
Is it like this?
If I had continued to take the entrance exam, I would have passed, but if the dean judged me to be too burdensome to enter the academy, I might be fired here.
Thinking that far, I watched the dean quietly.
I would like to go to an interview with you sometime.
*
“Ugh, I don’t mean to dare reject Demesis-nim.”
No matter how he accepted my staring at him, the dean made an excuse beforehand while cowering.
I just found the interview format so much fun.
He must have known I was angry.
“It’s just that I don’t understand why Demesis-sama wants to enter the academy. Do you want to learn something from our academy?”
“Are you learning anything?”
“Oh, don’t get me wrong! I don’t mean our academy is lacking, it’s just that Demesis is great! I heard that you subdued the Western Demon Lord and wiped out the mountainside of the bandits on the way to the academy, but then there is no one to teach Demesis-sama at the academy.”
Subjugation of the Western Devils.
Even this one achievement alone will be engraved in the history books.
Numerous dragonian and human armies have gone on expeditions to subjugate the Western Demon, but they have never completed an expedition as neatly as I did.
After waking up from bed at the age of 18, I left for a subjugation expedition to the Western Demon Valley shortly thereafter.
To see what my strength is.
The journey that followed the fleeing monster eventually reached the end of the west, and the expedition that no one had achieved was finished.
No professor at the academy can do this.
Maybe no one on the continent could do it.
At least in this academy, there is no one more capable than me.
but.
“You are misunderstanding. I’m not trying to learn swordsmanship or magic at the academy. After all, no one is stronger than me.”
The dean, who had lowered his eyes, nodded.
Everyone feels it when they see me.
That he is stronger than himself, that he is infinitely stronger.
So, get scared first.
“The reason I applied to the academy was for a different reason. They say that the most outstanding talents of my age gather here, regardless of race, class, wealth, etc.”
“Yes, yes.”
“I came to see them. It will be really interesting if the buds who represent the future of the species gather in one place.”
I was curious about the academy system and wanted to see the imperial capital, but this was the biggest reason.
I wanted to make friends of my age.
Wouldn’t it be possible to make at least one friend who isn’t afraid of me?
that was my wish
“The most outstanding talent. The sprouts that will represent the future of the species.”
The dean reflected on what I had said and was lost in thought for a moment.
“Demesis is the future of the Dragonians. Maybe even now.”
“Yes.”
I am the prince of the Drake Kingdom, who will lead the Dragonians in the future, and I have already subjugated the Western Horse Territory, and I am called the Dragon God.
It was able to represent the present and future of the Dragonians.
“If you are looking for promising talents from other races, then you have come to the right place. Our Imperial Academy is sure to attract the best talent regardless of race.”
The purpose of establishing the academy was to train talented people who would be loyal to the empire, but the current management policy had changed.
It is to accept various races, teach them without discrimination, and achieve peace on the continent by understanding each other.
The reason why the academy selects students regardless of race and the purpose of my coming here coincide.
A.C.
Of course, other students also wanted to receive the best education at the academy, but I had the same desire to learn with students from other races.
“If you genuinely want exchange, there is really nothing else to say. We will do our best to avoid any inconvenience.”
The dean scratched his head.
After taking a break, he comes up with a new proposal.
“Then do you have any intention of becoming a professor instead of a student? Even if you become a professor, you can communicate with other students.”
“It doesn’t matter if you are a professor or a student. But I’m not good at teaching, so a student is better.”
Everyone is scared and trembling, but who are you teaching?
“Demesis-nim, even a student, would be afraid of everyone.”
“I am also trying to communicate with others.”
I pointed the dean back to my bracelet and cape.
I was trying so hard not to look scary.
“Yes, I understand. It is an honor to have you come to our academy. We will make it as convenient as possible for you, Demesis.”
“It’s good that you can communicate well.”
He was a resourceful dean.
Although afraid of me, he never objected and finished the question.
I listened to him about things to be careful of at the academy, and I was promised some preferential treatment for me.
As long as I don’t intentionally hurt other students or teachers, there won’t be any special sanctions against me.
I finished the conversation satisfactorily and left the dean’s office.
*
“Are you okay?”
“Whoa.”
As Demesis’ sign disappeared, the dean sighed, his shoulders drooping and the ground disappearing.
Since I’ve been on high alert the whole time, when I relax, I lose all my strength.
“Did I answer sanely?”
“You looked fine on the outside.”
I asked Alex to check on my condition.
Maybe we had a proper conversation because we were suppressed by the fear of being suffocated.
I tried to keep my rationality without being scared as much as possible, but it seemed fine when I looked at it objectively.
At least Alex said it looked fine.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen such a scary dragon. No, it was the first time I learned of such a scary existence itself.”
“So do i. Not just us, but everyone else.”
Quite a bit of time passed after Demesis left, but they had to work hard, drinking tea and relaxing their shoulders to calm their pounding hearts.
“But are you really going to be okay?”
“What do you mean?”
“Can I bring someone like that to the academy? It would be fortunate if everyone didn’t faint after running into each other, but can we really continue the class?”
The dean used up all his energy just by exchanging a few words.
At the entrance examination, many students fainted when they saw him, and his abilities could not even be measured with a test for candidates.
He is too fearsome and powerful for the academy to embrace.
“Alex. You may not have known it, but in fact, Demesis-nim’s admission was a matter of permission from the imperial family. I couldn’t choose whether to take it or not.”
“yes? So you’re saying you passed anyway?”
“That’s not it. If I didn’t meet the admission requirements or if I met him in person, I thought I’d refuse even if I didn’t obey the imperial family’s request, but I thought it would be okay if I didn’t go that far.”
Alex pondered over the dean’s words.
Did he mean to evaluate Demesis as good?
“I couldn’t ask many questions because I was afraid, but anyway, the reason Demesis-sama applied for the academy matches the ideology we pursue.”
Let’s accept various races and cultures without prejudice.
Let’s learn together, communicate, understand each other, and greet the continent’s springtime together.
This was the dean’s will and the academy’s goal.
Demesis’ purpose of coming to interact with other races surprisingly coincides with it.
Although his ability is over capacity, that is something the academy has to deal with.
“Demesis-nim enters the special academy class. And I will notify the students who will be entering the special academy class this time in advance. That I would be in the same class as Demesis-sama. Only students who have the courage to withstand his fears will be supported and form a class.”
The academy special class was originally a place where the most outstanding students gathered.
In addition, a condition was added this time.
Only students who can take classes with Demesis come.
“If it’s a class with a person like this, the class shouldn’t be ordinary. Prepare a separate curriculum and faculty for the special class.”
Demesis’ admission was a gamble even for the academy.
If you can handle such a person, the capabilities of the Imperial Academy will be highly evaluated, otherwise, a disaster due to overzealousness may occur.
With the appearance of an all-time leading figure, I decided to prepare the schedule with great care as the dean.
No one yet knew whether Demesis would be a gift to the Imperial Academy or a bomb.
