Chapter 18 - [AI-8415] (2)
Episode 18_
[AI-8415] (2)
The one-act special, [AI-8415], was originally planned as a two-part series, but was extended to three parts because there were no scenes to be discarded in the middle.
“Does it feel good?”
The visual beauty and sophisticated CG used to depict Seoul in the near future were so good that even a cursory glance at it made you think the broadcasting station put a lot of effort into it.
Choi Hae-na habitually checked the Internet reactions.
-Anyone who just watched the Kesa one-act play?
Last year, the material and story were a bit bland, but this year it seems a bit better?
└I thought it would be a weird CG mess because it’s SF, but it was surprising lol
└Is the next episode going to be released tomorrow at the same time?
└Are there any actors worth watching in this one-act play?
└└Come out, Sapaeah’s acting is good
Even though it wasn’t a prime time show and it wasn’t a feature film, there was a lot of response from viewers.
Perhaps because word of mouth had spread that one-act plays were a gateway for new actors, there were also drama fans who wanted to catch new actors before they became famous.
“Just because it’s SF doesn’t mean it’s about going into space, the apocalypse, or having super powers?”
“When you think of SF, you usually think of hard SF.”
[AI-8415] mainly focuses on the changing society and human lives due to the rapid development of robot technology.
It may be a bit disappointing for those who were expecting classic SF, but it lowers the genre barrier and appeals to a wider audience.
“It’s fun.”
This is a story about AI-8415, who looks down on humans but never stops learning, coming to understand human emotions and changing, right?
Choi Hae-na became curious about the next episode.
“What do you think of Woojun’s acting?”
In response to Ko Seung-geon’s question, Choi Hae-na pondered the play.
In the beginning, the scene where Yeo-Jun Yoo looks straight at the camera and narrates was unrealistic.
Because the extremely dead facial muscles, breathing, and mechanical movements of the mouth looked as if they had been individually manipulated using an AI program.
“It really is like a robot. How did you do it so well?”
“Woo-jun. He’s been wearing a mirror ever since he got the script.”
“Aren’t you asking me to do something too difficult?”
“I didn’t tell him to do that. Woojun is already a kid who has his own solid acting style.”
It was a mystery to the two of them. Yeo-Jun acted as if he instinctively knew what kind of acting to do without being taught separately.
I have never seen such a gifted person in my long career.
“Now that I think about it, I remember. He used to stand still in front of the company lobby and then suddenly startle people. I thought he was playing some kind of prank. It turns out he was doing research for the role.”
When Fox Jun was able to freely control his facial muscles while looking in the mirror while practicing [AI-8415], he immediately tested his acting on the staff at the Legacy office.
‘I was really fooled later on.’
The child was so outstanding that he stood out wherever he went, but everyone was surprised to see him act like a robot.
“I told you that it would be shocking if you saw the one-act play. But it’s not as shocking as ‘Mind’ yet. Is this because of the difference in the script?”
“You’ll know when you see it. And it’s easier to express a purely evil appearance like in ‘Mind.’ The character is solid.”
[Mind] is even more shocking because of the unexpected twist, like, ‘How can a child think like that?’
Rather, there are many people who find it difficult to act naturally in everyday life.
“Isn’t the robot also quite solid?”
“Yes. That’s why it must have been difficult to act. The characteristic of our country’s acting style is mixing breathing. It’s not like acting in everyday speech like in foreign countries. If you mix breathing a lot in this work, it’s too… … human.”
Even Choi Hae-na wouldn’t have known these subtle details if she hadn’t listened to Ko Seung-geon’s explanation. The fields of idols and actors were very different.
“But if you hold your breath completely, it will be uncomfortable for the viewer. You will look like you’re floating because you don’t fit in with your co-star. Besides, it’s not like you have a small amount of screen time, and you’re the lead actor.”
“Well, if one side is weird, it looks worse.”
“He was able to act well, not too stiffly, but not too naturally, finding a middle ground. When he was AI-8415, who was clumsily imitating Kang Ye-jun’s life, he even intentionally adjusted his breathing to make it awkward. Watch out for his breathing in the future.”
Humans naturally breathe. Breathing is also important in acting.
‘There are quite a few actors who can’t even do the basics.’
By taking care of that basic thing, you naturally come to accept that the child is different from a human being without having to intentionally express stiff, robotic gestures.
“Did the kid calculate all that? Even if he knew, wouldn’t he think someone taught him? How many people would notice that?”
“The average viewer might not notice. But people who know a little bit might see it differently.”
“okay?”
People who know something are probably people in the industry. In other words, teaching doesn’t mean that everything will work out.
Our child is amazing. Choi Hae-na spied on SNS.
-8415 Anyone seen this?
I liked the original novel so I watched it and the main character’s acting was really good. He really seemed like a genius.
└When we first met eyes, I thought it was really suffocating
└If you keep acting like a robot, it’ll be awkward, but this guy just acts natural. It’s perfect for saying he’s like an outsider.
└What are you doing in science? You don’t make robots like that.
-Why is the child actor in the one-act play so stone-faced?
Didn’t they say he’s a good actor because he’s a Sapae? I saw him here for the first time and he really looked like a robot.
└That’s the setting
└ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋOut
└Have you watched the drama here and there?
└Is that rave reviews?
Some viewers understood the point that Ko Seung-geon made, while others misunderstood it because it was so well-executed.
“Look. I’m already getting a response.”
Ko Seung-geon shook my cell phone screen. The sender was a director from a production company.
“Haha… … Don’t these people even get off work?”
“That’s what we do, you know. Call me. Yes, Director. It’s been a while.”
Ko Seung-geon gestured and went out to the veranda.
“Haha. So you just watched the short film, Director? Woo-Jun? He’s a friend I’ve been taking good care of lately.”
I can hear the conversation through the crack in the partially closed veranda door. Our Woojun is popular.
‘What if I grow up and just want to act?’
The last time I tried it, I said boldly that I would do it all, but isn’t that something that can change as you live?
If you’re so good at acting and like that now… Choi Hae-na narrowed her eyes. I have to find a reason for Woo-jun to be interested in idols.
* * *
In AI-8415’s eyes, Kang Ye-jun’s mother was a green-like being. A human being who had no life of her own and lived only for her child. Is this what is called blind love?
‘No way.’
Is it the destiny of all mothers to devote themselves to their children? Are all mothers in the world like this?
According to the data, no. Some babies are placed in foster care or adopted. Some are even found in public restrooms.
‘All humans are the same. This human would be no different.’
So he wanted to test it. The way he tested his mother was simple.
“Yejun! No!”
“Okay!”
First, you have to make her angry. If you keep provoking her like this, she will eventually get tired and throw away her mask of motherhood.
The AI-8415 made some noise at first.
When told to keep quiet because other neighbors were being harmed, he just kept his mouth shut and ran around. He even ran away with key ingredients while I was cooking.
If your child repeatedly does this, something will change, whether you get tired and irritated or get angry and discipline them.
“Isn’t Mom angry?”
“Yeah. No. Mom is actually happy.”
“Are you happy?”
“Yejun has been so quiet lately, but now he’s acting like a kid again.”
But AI-8415’s predictions were surprisingly wrong. Mom was so consistent. No matter what she did, she was so lovingly accepting that AI-8415 got tired of it.
As I was crouching in front of my house, wondering if I should make another plan, the old man from the house across the street came out into the yard.
“Yejun, come here?”
Instead of calling him Aga, he is called Yejun. This refers to the state of an old man when he is of sound mind.
“You look fine today.”
“I guess I had a long dream. Didn’t I cause trouble during that time?”
“Nothing much happened. Other than the fact that you kept forgetting to eat or trying to go out, I woke up in the middle of the night to Ada trying to stop you.”
I was up all night and naturally heard the commotion.
The old man turned to Ada and apologized for causing a commotion.
“Ada. Thank you.”
“Never mind. That’s what I’m supposed to do.”
“You can do the laundry later, so just rest.”
“I don’t need to rest. I will just accept your heart.”
There seemed to be a bond between the two that AI-8415 couldn’t understand. AI-8415 felt like throwing a tantrum for no reason.
“Grandma, that’s not a human. That’s what Ada was created for. You don’t have to thank her.”
“I know, too.”
But why are you looking at me like that? It’s like you’re looking at your real family.
“At first, I also thought it was a robot.”
It was pronounced closer to robot than robot.
The old man’s life became bleak after being diagnosed with dementia.
I had saved up money, but what good would it do? My children were too busy living their own lives to come, and I didn’t want to go to a nursing home.
“I didn’t really like robots. They were complicated… My child lost his job because of them.”
When I told him I was spending money on a dementia-assisting robot, my children were against it. They probably didn’t want their inheritance to be reduced.
So, are you guys going to serve me? That’s why I ended up buying Ada.
“But Ada is such a monster. She cleans and does laundry without being told to, and even when I lose my mind, she takes care of me… … .”
Ada thus infiltrated the old man’s life.
It was only natural that a human-like robot that took responsibility for all aspects of an elderly person’s life, with only a few children visiting, would melt the heart of the elderly person who lived alone.
“… … I guess we’ve grown attached to each other.”
“What is love?”
“Jeong-eun… …Jeong-eun.”
It seems like a word that even the elderly cannot define. AI-8415 tilted his head.
“Is this love?”
“Well, it’s not love.”
“Is it similar to liking someone?”
“Well, I guess you could say that.”
Is there a difference between liking and loving? AI-8415 was confused.
The old man looked at Ada, who finished her laundry and started vacuuming.
“Sometimes, he keeps me company. I don’t feel lonely. Now, he’s like my grandson.”
“But wouldn’t Ada know her grandmother’s heart?”
“know.”
Even though I know that the feelings I give are cold and cannot be expressed in other ways or fully accepted, I pour out my affection.
“Sometimes it’s okay if both sides don’t understand each other.”
“I don’t know.”
AI-8415’s usually expressionless face cracked. It was a slight frown, but it was the biggest change so far.
“While I was out of my mind, I think I heard you making a fuss inside the house.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Was it noisy?”
“No. Is it to get your mother’s attention?”
To get attention? No, I just wanted to know the truth about that person. I thought that person was just like any other person.
AI-8415’s head was filled with excuses, but they wouldn’t come out of his mouth.
“That’s tough.”
I don’t know what’s so special about me. Is it because I live with my single mother? Or is it because I feel sorry for him because he knows I’m Kang Ye-jun’s stand-in? He’s an old man who cares about Ada, so it’s understandable that he would feel sorry for me too.
The old man stroked AI-8415’s head. Kang Ye-jun felt the old man’s touch quietly.
