Supernatural: The Huntsman.

Chapter 18: Loud and deadly.

However, on his way back he spotted Hailey, the girl the rangers had been talking about. She was in front of the station. She was still trying to get them to take her claim that her brother and his friends were missing and in danger seriously.

Looking at her a thought popped into Alexander's head. 'Hmm, It's been about 20 years since the last attack. If the creature is still alive it should start hunting soon.'

Alexander thought. 'This Hailey girl might be right. Her brother's camping group is in danger.'

Alexander believed that the camping group Hailey was trying to report missing may very well be the mystery creature's next victim.

Luckily for him just in case, to cover all bases he found out what had happened from the locals during his research and investigation. Even better Hailey had never been the shy one. Everyone knew what she was up to, she never really hid it.

So, Alexander knew her story pretty well. She lived alone with just her two brothers since the death of their parents. Hailey's brother and two other friends had a sort of tradition, a yearly camping trip into Black Water Ridge, and everytime they went camping her brother checked in regularly with a Satellite phone. Only this year unlike previous times her brother had failed to check in with her hence her worry.

Aside from the mystery creature he really couldn't find anything that would draw the Winchesters to this place. But it didn't matter as a hunter it was his duty to hunt dangerous monsters wherever he may find them.

Really and truly it mattered not what the Winchesters were there for, he had a job to do.

One other reason he showed an interest in Hailey's case was how close to home it hit. He too knew the pain and ache of waiting for a call from a loved one and it never coming. He knew how with each passing day your mind would imagine countless worse scenarios of what could have happened.

Each day you were fighting a losing battle with your mind. Slowly being poisoned by worry. Your once bright light of hope dimming.

He didn't want the girl to go through what he had with his dad. He wanted to help her find her brother or give her a bit of closure if the worst had happened.

He also found out that Hailey hired a local hunter (normal hunter) by the name of Roy to guide her to her brother's last known location to look for him.

Utilising this information he approached said hunter that very evening and paid him to join their little trip. Under the guise of being a dear friend of one of the people Hailey believed missing.

With Roy's ignorance, confidence in his abilities, and love of Alexander's money. He happily agreed. He stayed for a while to finalize the details of the transaction with Roy before leaving.

Alexander did not know how long this hunt would take so he rented some basic camping equipment from a shop nearby.

It was now midnight Alexander was tired from a long day's work and retreated to his cabin.

------

On the designated day Alexander got his camping gear ready and made his way to his car to pick a few weapons he might need.

But due to the ambiguous nature of the creature he didn't know what weapon could kill. So he opted for something powerful and easy to carry.

A Desert Eagle.

He also selected a 30 cm blade combat knife, 2 throwing knives, and a strong thin roll of wire.

He contemplated bringing the charm necklace but thought against it. It was unwise to bring an untested weapon into battle. He didn't know anything about it to effectively use it. It could even have some negative side effects.

While he did appreciate the gun he was never a big fan of the desert eagle he preferred his usual weapon the AMT Hardballer.

Compared to the Hardballer, the desert eagle was heavy, loud, and difficult to maneuver. And when hunting most creatures aim for a close-quarters fight, a desert eagle isn't really great for close-quarters combat because of its weight and maneuverability.

But it did have the power he needed.

Collecting his weapons and hiding them on his person he took his camping gear and set off to meet Roy at the agreed-upon location, he had agreed to take Roy's car. Together they went to pick up Hailey only to find out her little brother Ben, would be coming along. Which wouldn't have been bad if not for the meekness and fragility of her brother.

Perhaps it was because of the lack of parental figures in the life of the siblings. Or perhaps it was because Hailey had no experience raising a child but Ben appeared to be a rather sheltered teen.

He seemed like the type of person who couldn't be trusted to hold up an umbrella in a drizzle. Like the type of person to gets a paper cut from a wet tissue.

There was truly nothing bad about him per se but he didn't come across as dependable. Especially on a trip into the forest.

But Hailey was adamant that he was coming with her and that she wouldn't leave him behind.

Funny enough Ben himself looked like he didn't want to be there.
