Chapter 801: Foster Father Above
"You already know I am a Space Immortal," Tian Jiuyou said with a slight smile, "and yet you still want to win. It seems you must have some powerful tricks up your sleeve. I'm really curious what kind of method gives you such confidence. If you win, you can ask for anything."
"I don't have any special tricks," Lin Shen replied with a wry smile, "I'm just betting on the fact that you won't kill me."
"Haha, you're quite honest," Tian Jiuyou laughed heartily. "Winning would only benefit you, and the worst outcome if you lose is just becoming my sworn son. It seems you've judged your chances well. Never mind, my dueling you was unfair from the start, letting you have some advantages doesn't really matter. But a person like you must have something to rely on; you wouldn't shoot without aim. Enough talk, are you ready? I'm about to make my move."
"Just go ahead," Lin Shen said, standing atop the snowy mountain. He watched Tian Jiuyou, summoning neither Life Base nor using any weapon, simply looking at Tian Jiuyou.
"You're going to take my final strike just like this?" Tian Jiuyou asked doubtfully. Read latest chapters at My Virtual Library Empire
"Yes," Lin Shen nodded.
Tian Jiuyou seemed to realize something and burst out laughing, clapping his hands. "You really do have an Exquisite Heart. You know I won't kill you. You don't use weapons or Life Base or Carapace Guard. If I don't want to kill you, I'll naturally have to control my strength. As such, the strength of my attack will be weaker, and with your hidden methods, perhaps you can pass this test. Really clever planning, I'm getting more and more impressed by you."
Lin Shen indeed had some tricks, but mainly it was his physical resilience that he relied on the most. If his body couldn't withstand the hit, using those other things wouldn't be of much use.
"Seeing through things but not revealing them is the decent thing to do," Lin Shen said.
"Alright, alright, have it your way then," Tian Jiuyou said, more eager now to see what Lin Shen had in store.
He was well aware of Lin Shen's thinking, yet he didn't mind suffering a slight disadvantage.
Tian Jiuyou slowly raised his hand and said, "If you can block this palm strike of mine, what harm is there in acknowledging you as my sworn father?"
After speaking, Tian Jiuyou struck out with his palm. This strike was neither as majestic as the previous Winning War Stratagem nor enveloped the heavens. It even seemed just a light, gentle palm without a hint of light on it.
Lin Shen watched as Tian Jiuyou casually delivered the palm. It wasn't fast, but he felt as though his body couldn't move at all and could only helplessly watch as Tian Jiuyou's palm landed on his shoulder and arm.
Tian Jiuyou couldn't kill Lin Shen, but he also couldn't let Lin Shen block this hit. Consequently, he employed the Displacement Law from the Space Law.
This palm strike could displace space, directly moving Lin Shen's arm away from his body, detaching it.
This allowed Lin Shen to lose the bet without harming him.
After Lin Shen admitted defeat, Tian Jiuyou could restore the space, reattaching the arm to Lin Shen's body without leaving a single mark—a truly mysterious and unpredictable ability.
Knowing Lin Shen had strategies, Tian Jiuyou still didn't believe Lin Shen, as a Nirvana Being, could break his Immortal Laws.
These were real Immortal Laws, and ordinary Immortals couldn't withstand his power of spatial displacement.
BANG!
Lin Shen was struck on the shoulder; his body was sent flying like a meteor, crashing into a snow-capped mountain behind him, breaking the peak and burying him beneath.
However, seeing this outcome, Tian Jiuyou was momentarily stunned, his expression turning odd.
The space displacement technique he used was only supposed to displace space—and should have only caused Lin Shen's arm to detach from his body; it shouldn't have flung Lin Shen away as it had.
This outcome clearly took Tian Jiuyou by surprise. He soared down, arriving above the collapsed snowy peak, and observed the tumultuous snow waves and sliding glaciers. The snow and ice had buried the valley below, and Lin Shen was nowhere to be seen.
With a thought from Tian Jiuyou, the glacier and snow piles below began separating piece by piece, as if they had lost gravity and were instead floating up, buoyed by some unseen force.
Huge blocks of ice and rocks ascended toward the sky, and soon Lin Shen, who was buried beneath, came into view.
After seeing Lin Shen's appearance, Tian Jiuyou paused in shock.
Lin Shen stood on a large block of ice, rising with it; his battle suit was shattered at the shoulder, revealing his fair skin. On his shoulder was a bright red handprint—yet contrary to what Tian Jiuyou had suspected, his arm had not detached from his body but was still properly attached.
"Thanks for showing mercy. Shall we call it a draw? Let's forget the bet and go our separate ways," Lin Shen said, rubbing the red handprint on his shoulder.
Tian Jiuyou looked at Lin Shen, his face shifting between shades of pale and flush, yet he remained silent.
He couldn't yet understand how Lin Shen's flesh and blood had withstood his space displacement technique.
He hadn't seen Lin Shen use any specific technique, and indeed, the area's space had been displaced.
Theoretically speaking, Lin Shen's arm should have displaced along with the space and detached from his body.
But Lin Shen had merely been flung away; his arm had escaped the displacement, not moving with the space.
Although he had not put much force into it—merely a bit of Space Law's power—how could the body of a Nirvana Being break free from such force?
Even an Immortal Level Tian Shangjiang might only escape by leaving an arm behind to break free from the binds of the Law Power.
Lin Shen felt uneasy as he watched Tian Jiuyou's face shift unpredictably and heard his silence, not knowing what he was thinking.
If Tian Jiuyou became infuriated to the point of turning against him, Lin Shen did not believe he could escape with his life.
The true power of the Immortal Laws was just too strong. Lin Shen hadn't managed to shatter Tian Jiuyou's Law Power like he did with the Minotaur; he had merely barely escaped.
That was because Tian Jiuyou hadn't applied much force. If Tian Jiuyou had used his full strength, it would have very likely cost Lin Shen his arm.
Even so, the blow Tian Jiuyou struck on his shoulder almost splintered his bones.
"It seems my body can't yet withstand the attacks of top-tier Immortals," Lin Shen thought regretfully.
Little did Lin Shen know, his physical strength had left even Tian Jiuyou, a true Immortal, utterly astonished.
That a Nirvana Being's body could escape his Space Law Power was simply unbelievable to Tian Jiuyou, and his gaze toward Lin Shen grew even more intense.
As Lin Shen was engulfed in anxiety, he suddenly saw Tian Jiuyou move, which startled him and made him step back unwittingly.
"Honored foster father, please accept this bow from Tian Jiuyou," Tian Jiuyou suddenly bowed, leaving Lin Shen stunned on the spot.
