Chapter 247: Kagura Mikazuchi
After Mira's victory, Fairy Tail Team B's score rose to 29 points, still far ahead of the third place, Raven Tail, by more than 10 points, making them the undisputed leaders.
With Mira showcasing her formidable strength, everyone realized that besides Mermaid Heel, Fairy Tail also boasted extraordinary female wizards, and they had two such formidable women.
The strongest guild from seven years ago was now truly displaying its might. At this point, no guild could match them. Even the top candidate for the strongest, Jura, had been defeated by Fairy Tail.
People were discussing which guild could stop Fairy Tail's advance. Would it be Sabertooth? But they were only in fourth place, tied with Blue Pegasus.
Regardless, the competition continued. The last match of the day was Mermaid Heel versus Sabertooth.
This was another highly anticipated match, with both guilds fielding beautiful women, one of whom was known as the strongest female wizard in Fiore, Kagura Mikazuchi.
Meanwhile, in the castle where the king resided, a dark conversation was taking place between the captain of the Fiore Cherry Blossom Knights, Arcadios, and the kingdom's Minister of Defense, Darton.
The conversation revolved around the recent attempted abduction of the Celestial Wizard. Darton questioned Arcadios's urgency in capturing the Celestial Wizard.
Arcadios responded that it was due to a plan about to enter its experimental phase, a plan called the Eclipse Project. He further stated that in the face of this grand plan, the life of a single girl was insignificant.
Back in the competition arena, the match proceeded without interruption. When the contestants were announced, the match began immediately.
Most people believed Kagura would win, but as a member of Sabertooth, Yukino would not be an easy opponent. Before the match, Yukino proposed a bet, a gamble.
Kagura, disinterested, calmly refused, even when Yukino tried to provoke her. However, when Yukino proposed betting on their lives, Kagura took it seriously, finding it too disrespectful to refuse.
Yukino was confident in her abilities. As a Celestial Wizard, she could summon two gates simultaneously, calling forth two of the Zodiac spirits, a skill level equal to Lucy's.
However, this was still not enough to defeat Kagura.
Yukino then opened the thirteenth gate, the legendary gate that surpassed the Zodiac, the Gate of Ophiuchus.
From this gate emerged a mechanical giant serpent, fierce and powerful, causing everyone to worry for Kagura.
But in the next moment, Kagura used her sword to demonstrate true power.
With a single slash, Kagura effortlessly sliced the mechanical serpent into four parts, from head to tail, perfectly bisecting it.
Such swordsmanship was unmatched, even by Erza.
In the end, Kagura spared Yukino's life, stating that she would keep it for now. Yukino was undoubtedly strong, but Kagura was so powerful that even Erza would have to be cautious around her.
With the fourth match over, all the events for the second day concluded. The results were surprising: Fairy Tail Teams A and B continued to dominate first and second places, while Sabertooth failed to score any points.
For the proud Sabertooth, this was an unbearable result, but in competition, the results speak for themselves and cannot be changed.
The scores for each team today were as follows:
Fairy Tail Team A: 32 pointsFairy Tail Team B: 29 pointsMermaid Heel: 18 pointsRaven Tail: 18 pointsSabertooth: 16 pointsBlue Pegasus: 16 pointsQuatro Cerberus: 11 pointsLamia Scale: 8 points
Some people found these rankings hard to believe. Fairy Tail's strength justified their positions, but they were puzzled by the Sabertooth and Lamia Scale.
Last year, they were the first and second guilds in Fiore. Sabertooth might not have shown their full strength yet, but Lamia Scale had no excuses, as their strongest members had already competed.
There were also those indifferent to the rankings, like Jellal.
Under the cover of night, Jellal disguised himself and snuck into Crocus, seeking out Calvin. He had come to discuss a past commission related to the mysterious magic power thought to be connected to Zeref.
The two men hid under a bridge, conversing stealthily, which others might find suspicious.
"Still no sign of the mysterious magic today. Be patient; there's no need to rush," Calvin said.
"I'm not rushing. I've just been thinking and came up with a few possibilities," Jellal replied.
"I have to. If that magic belongs to someone, they might not have come this year or are hiding their power," Calvin said.
"Or they might be a contestant who hasn't competed yet," Jellal added.
"That's unlikely. I've sensed all the contestants; none of them show signs of that magic," Calvin said, shaking his head.
"If the magic belongs to a device or the venue, it might not have been activated yet or is hidden behind a barrier," Jellal suggested.
Calvin nodded. "You have a point, but without sensing the magic, it's all speculation."
"Exactly, which is why I'm planning to infiltrate the organizers tomorrow to gather information," Jellal said.
"No, let my summoned beast handle it. You're not suited for this. Stay on the outskirts," Calvin advised.
Jellal agreed after some thought, knowing his presence was too risky. If discovered, escaping would be difficult.
After parting ways, Calvin returned to the guild's celebration of their day's victory.
During the festivities, Erza noticed Calvin had slipped away and went outside to find him, unexpectedly running into her old friend, Millianna. The two chatted extensively.
Meanwhile, Calvin encountered someone else on his way back.
A woman blocked his path. Though she didn't seem hostile, Calvin felt uneasy, recognizing her from earlier.
She had long, straight black hair, sharp eyes, a sword at her waist, and a striking figure.
"Calvin, may I speak with you?" she asked.
"Kagura from Mermaid Heel? What do you want?" Calvin asked, puzzled, as he had no prior interactions with her.
"I want to talk about the Tower of Heaven from seven years ago," Kagura said, her usual cold expression tinged with slight excitement.
"Alright, what do you want to know?" Calvin asked.
This chapter felt a bit dragged out, but sometimes transitional scenes are necessary.
