Chapter 8: Chapter 8| How Dare He!
Ginny swallowed her unease. Now wasn't the time for panic—she needed to be calculative.
"Alright, let's see..." She adjusted her hanbok, counting off on her fingers.
'Allies: None. Enemies: Two—at least, the known ones. Family: Unknown. Home: Nonexistent. Identity: Uncertain…'
She inhaled sharply, forcing herself to stay calm. 'It's not that bad. If anything, living under the protection of someone powerful could be an advantage. He's clearly feared and respected.'
Her gaze flickered toward Seung Woo. After a moment of deliberation, she made her decision.
"Hmm… Deal." She extended a hand, only for him to blatantly ignore it.
Ginny hesitated before slowly retracting her hand. "Did handshakes not exist in this time, or is everyone just impossibly rude?" she muttered under her breath.
Seung Woo's expression barely shifted as he stood, but the sheer disdain in his gaze was impossible to miss.
"Wait," Ginny called, stepping forward. "Since we'll be working together, shouldn't we establish some form of bond? You know, trust, cooperation—maybe even friendship?"
Seung Woo didn't even slow his stride.
"Jerk," she grumbled.
He stopped.
Ginny tensed.
"Did you just curse at me?" His tone was eerily calm.
"Me? No, nope! Absolutely not," she said quickly, waving her hands in dismissal.
His unreadable gaze lingered on her for a moment before he continued walking. Ginny exhaled loudly. "How exhausting… Wait up!"
Lifting the hem of her hanbok, she hurried after him. He moved quickly, but she managed to keep up—until he came to an abrupt stop. She crashed into his back.
He turned, irritation flickering in his eyes. "What is it?"
Ginny took a cautious step back, clearing her throat. "I just think I deserve to know exactly what you need me for. If I'm to be of any use, shouldn't I at least understand the terms of my… employment?"
Seung Woo studied her for a moment before replying, "I'll tell you when the time arises."
Ginny pressed her lips together before nodding slowly. "Ah, I see. A covert mission, is it?" She crossed her arms. 'Well, I'll have you know I'm quite the expert myself—'
Before she could finish her boast, she realized he was already walking away.
'Why is he always in a hurry?' she grumbled before dashing after him.
They soon arrived at the entrance of the brothel, where Park Chan Yeol stood next to a magnificent horse.
"Fancy," Ginny whispered.
Seung Woo turned ever so slightly, catching her commentary before proceeding to speak with Chan Yeol.
Ginny casually stepped between them, only for their conversation to abruptly halt. She was about to ask why when Eun-Gin suddenly appeared, looking both frightened and urgent.
She screeched to a halt, struggling to catch her breath as the two men stared at her expectantly.
"Greetings… Young Master Park Chan Yeol and… Lee Seung Woo," she panted. "Where… are you taking So-Hee? She's not allowed to leave the brothel unless summoned."
Ginny arched a brow. 'I feel so objectified.'
Without a word, Seung Woo reached into his pocket, pulled out a bag of jingling coins, and tossed it to Eun-Gin. She caught it effortlessly, her expression shifting from concern to delight.
"I'm sure that's enough to buy her from you," he stated flatly.
Ginny's eyes widened.
'How dare he! How dare he place a value on my worth!'
She spun on her heel, glaring at him. "What gives you the right to buy me?!"
Seung Woo barely reacted. He merely flicked his gaze to Chan Yeol, who shrugged in silent defense.
"How else do you expect me to get you out of here?" he asked, voice laced with impatience.
"There should be other ways!" she argued, still reeling from the sheer audacity of it all.
"I assure you, there aren't," he replied. Then, after a pause, he added, "But of course, you're free to stay here and… well, you understand what I mean."
Ginny clenched her jaw.
'Let's not act too hastily.'
After a long moment, she exhaled sharply. "Fine. I give you permission to buy me."
She pouted before glancing at Eun-Gin. "Well, I guess this is goodbye, then."
Eun-Gin simply stared.
"Okay," Ginny clapped her hands together. "It was so not a pleasure meeting you." She shot a halfhearted smile before turning to mount her horse.
Her attempt failed miserably. She fell flat on her face.
"Ouch," she groaned.
Scrambling to her feet, she dusted herself off and made another attempt, this time successfully swinging into the saddle.
With a confident grin, she faced forward and slapped the horse's rear.
"Go, horsy, go!"
The horse didn't budge.
A moment of silence passed before Chan Yeol sighed. He stepped forward and gave the horse a light tap, sending it into motion. Ginny yelped as she was nearly thrown off balance but managed to steady herself.
"That was completely intentional," she declared, trying to salvage whatever dignity she had left.
Chan Yeol smirked before turning to Eun-Gin. "Tell Madame that our business is concluded."
Eun-Gin, still weighing the heavy bag of coins in her palm, nodded absentmindedly. "Mm."
Ginny stole one last glance at the brothel.
'Not that I'll miss it, but…'
She shook the thought away. "Onward!" she called dramatically, urging the horse forward.
Seung Woo shot her a flat look before trotting ahead, effortlessly taking the lead.
Ginny rolled her eyes. 'Show-off.'
