Stockpiling in the Apocalypse: Supplies Forging a Legend of Survival

Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Preparations Before Going Out

The moment Liu Ruyan took off her clothes, she couldn't help but shiver.

Only when she quickly got into the bathtub and was surrounded by the hot water did she finally let out a long sigh of relief.

The bathtub was big enough. When the water got cold, Liu Ruyan could still drain some of the cold water and add more hot water for herself.

After finally washing her hair, Liu Ruyan reluctantly got out of the bathtub.

Fortunately, there was no power outage. Liu Ruyan directly took out the hair dryer and dried her hair.

For more than a year, Liu Ruyan had been cutting her own hair.

Although her skills were not as good as those of a professional hairdresser like Tony, it still looked okay after a casual cut.

Liu Ruyan didn't have any special requirements for her hairstyle. The only requirement was that it shouldn't be too long.

If it was too long, it would be eye-catching and troublesome to wash.

The current length was just right. After blowing it with the hair dryer for five or six minutes, the hair was almost dry.

After putting away the bathtub and the tent respectively and mopping up the water stains on the ground, Liu Ruyan then placed the bed and the carpet back in their original positions.

It was only because there was enough space. Otherwise, going through this process every day would be really tiring just to think about.

After lunch, Liu Ruyan took a nap.

It wasn't a long nap, just two hours.

If she slept too long, it would affect her sleep at night.

Although there was nothing much to do now and she didn't need to go out, Liu Ruyan was still very self-disciplined in her daily routine.

After it snowed, Liu Ruyan took down the heat insulation curtain hanging outside the window and hung an extra layer of white gauze curtain inside the window.

This kind of gauze curtain allowed light to pass through but not people to be seen from the outside, while the light could come in.

In this way, Liu Ruyan didn't need to turn on the lights during the day.

After all, the power of the solar energy storage panels now couldn't be compared with that during the extremely hot period before.

Although there was still no power outage in the base, Liu Ruyan was still using some heating equipment and humidifiers, so she didn't turn on the lights during the day if she could avoid it.

This was called saving when it should be saved and spending when it should be spent, without any ambiguity.

After watching too many TV dramas and variety shows, it was inevitable to get a bit tired of them. So Liu Ruyan found a book to read.

This book was a technical book about greenhouse planting.

Liu Ruyan didn't have a greenhouse and didn't plan to do any planting either, but she could still grow some garlic sprouts, mung bean sprouts, and soybean sprouts.

These could be eaten and could also be placed in the house as green plants.

As soon as she thought of it, Liu Ruyan found suitable containers and put mung beans, soybeans, and garlic in them respectively.

For the beans, she just added water, covered the lid to block the light, and let them germinate.

As for the garlic, Liu Ruyan strung them into circles with wire.

She placed them in shallow plates in circles, looking very neat.

Liu Ruyan remembered that she learned this when she was in primary school. At that time, every classmate in the class would hydroponically grow garlic sprouts at home and bring them to school to compare who grew them better.

Thinking of those times, Liu Ruyan couldn't help but smile.

As long as the temperature was suitable and there was enough water, these things could grow a section in less than two days.

Apart from exercising every day, Liu Ruyan had one more thing to do, which was to take care of these little seedlings.

The soybean sprouts were the first to be ready.

Liu Ruyan had originally only soaked a handful of beans, but when the sprouts were ready, there was almost half a basin.

Looking at so many sprouts, Liu Ruyan thought for a moment and then simply poured out half of them. After getting dressed neatly, she carried the basin and knocked on Zhang Yuan's door.

She had only knocked twice when Zhang Yuan opened the door.

Liu Ruyan handed the basin over. "These are the sprouts I grew myself. I brought some for you."

Zhang Yuan looked at the sprouts in the basin in surprise. "You actually have this skill! That's amazing!"

Zhang Yuan's tone was sincere, and his eyes looking at Liu Ruyan were shining.

Seeing Zhang Yuan like this, Liu Ruyan was actually a bit embarrassed. "Actually, it's not really a skill. You just need to add water to the beans."

Zhang Yuan shook his head disapprovingly. "If you can do something that others can't, it's your skill."

That sounded reasonable, so Liu Ruyan didn't argue anymore and just nodded. "It's cold outside. I'll go back first!"

"Wait a moment!"

Liu Ruyan looked at Zhang Yuan in confusion. "What's the matter?"

"I plan to go out of the base in a couple of days. Do you want to go?"

Hearing this, Liu Ruyan was even more puzzled. "In this freezing cold, where are we going?"

"I've made an agreement with the base to borrow their snowplow truck. I'll pay for the fuel myself."

Zhang Yuan paused here. "If others want to borrow it, they have to pay contribution points every day. Ten contribution points a day."

In other words, he didn't need to pay extra contribution points.

That did sound good.

It's just that in this freezing cold, what kind of prey could there be outside?

Liu Ruyan showed hesitation on her face. After thinking for a while, she finally nodded. "Okay then! When are you planning to go?"

"Two days later!"

"Okay, I also have fuel. I'll pay half of it then. We should bring more things when we go out."

"Good. I'll call you early in the morning two days later."

The two of them agreed on the time, and Liu Ruyan went back home.

Zhang Yuan watched Liu Ruyan close the door and then closed his own door.

Zhang Yuan turned and walked towards the bedroom. Once in the bedroom, he went to look at the sprouts in the basin.

In just this short while, the sprouts had already frozen solid.

Zhang Yuan took off his gloves and tapped on them with his slender fingers. "I'll eat you for lunch today."

Liu Ruyan went back to the bedroom and was thinking about Zhang Yuan's proposal while taking off her outer clothes.

Since it snowed, she really hadn't gone out. Going out for a trip might be okay.

This base was expanded and renovated on the basis of a mountain resort. Originally, there were mountains nearby and other scenic spots as well. There should be quite a lot of animals.

During the extremely hot weather before, although she hadn't seen any animals, just looking at those tough mosquitoes, flies, and rats, one could know that animals adapted to the suddenly changed environment better than humans and survived better.

Just because those animals didn't show up didn't mean they didn't exist.

Going out to have a look might actually bring some harvest.

Liu Ruyan herself didn't lack meat to eat, but if she could bring back some prey openly, even if she didn't eat it herself, she could use it to exchange for some contribution points with the base.

However, going out in such weather, one must be fully prepared.

In the following two days, Liu Ruyan was constantly preparing for going out.

Liu Ruyan found a hiking backpack that was about half her height and put a sleeping bag, a tent, and a blanket in it.

She even took out the warm baby patches from their boxes and stuffed two boxes directly into the backpack.

Besides the warm baby patches, Liu Ruyan also found two copper hand warmers.

You could put charcoal in the hand warmers and wrap them with cotton covers on the outside. Holding them in your hands would be warm and not burn your hands.

Liu Ruyan also bought a lot of the special charcoal for these hand warmers.

Since she was just staying in the house, she hadn't used this stuff before.

After lighting the charcoal and putting it in, Liu Ruyan found that the effect of warming her hands was quite good. Immediately, she took a lot of charcoal, packed it up, and stuffed it into the backpack too.

Besides these things for keeping warm, food was also of great importance.

After all, when you're out, in this freezing cold, if you don't eat something hot, you'll be frozen to death.

She didn't know what the snowplow truck Zhang Yuan borrowed was like. If it had two rows of seats, Liu Ruyan planned to take out a portable stove and keep the charcoal burning inside, so that it could not only boil water and cook but also make the temperature inside the truck a bit higher, not too cold.

Although she wasn't sure if it could fit, Liu Ruyan still took it out and put it aside first.

For food, she took all instant foods that could be cooked in the shortest time and were rich in oil and salt.

Chocolate and candies were even more indispensable.

Having one piece at any time could replenish your strength.
