Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 247: Chapter 244

"Thud thud thud..."

The carriage was moving swiftly, and it was already 8 PM. Lucas and Mina had not had dinner yet.

"Grrr..."

Freya's face turned red with embarrassment as her stomach growled. How could it be growling now? She had eaten some frozen cucumbers earlier today, hadn't she?

"We're almost at the castle!" Mina said with a slight smile.

Freya merely nodded, not saying anything. She was deep in thought, considering how to slip away, or what to do if Santner' people found her.

A few minutes later, the carriage arrived at the castle. The three of them got off and started walking toward the dining hall.

"They must be starving," Lucas chuckled lightly. He could imagine Ayesha rubbing her belly and wondering, 'Why hasn't the Young master come back yet?'

There were still some rules in the castle. For example, they would have to wait for Lucas to return before they could start dinner.

Unless Lucas doesn't return to the castle that day or informs them in advance that he will be late, Nicole always insists that they wait for him to return before they can start dinner.

"Hee hee hee..." Mina giggled, imagining the expressions of the others.

Freya, on the other hand, was a little confused. Why was this cat-girl laughing so happily? Could it be that this human noble treated her very well?

"Young master, why haven't you come back yet? I'm so hungry!"

Ayesha's loud voice echoed. "I should have eaten one more pizza at the pizza shop."

"Hey, hey... Ayesha, did you steal some vegetables again?" Annie's sharp voice called out in a slightly annoyed tone. "Nicole, look, Ayesha is using her hands to grab the vegetables again."

"Alright, I'll make sure she doesn't get any from that plate." Nicole gently reassured.

"What? I didn't steal anything!" Ayesha denied loudly.

"Ayesha, there's some vegetable leaves on the corner of your mouth," Came Helen's helpless voice.

"..."

Lucas and Mina exchanged amused glances. With Annie and Ayesha around, it seemed impossible to expect any quiet moments.

Freya's entire body stiffened, her ember eyes trembling. That voice—she could never be mistaken; it was the voice of Princess.

Freya suddenly charged forward, darting past Lucas and Mina, and with one swift motion, kicked the wooden door of the dining hall open.

"Bang!!!"

The door splintered, and Freya rushed in. Her ember eyes scanned the dining hall, where the group inside was in complete confusion. At that moment, Ayesha's hand was slyly reaching for a dish of food.

Annie, her hands pressed on the table, gaped in shock at the door being smashed open, her expression shifting between surprise and astonishment. But in the next instant, her eyes widened with terror, and she screamed at the top of her lungs, "A ghost!"

"Princess...?" Freya's pupils dilated as she trembled, slowly moving toward Annie.

"Don't come any closer, no—"

Annie stepped back in fear, then turned and bolted for the door. She ran straight into Lucas's arms when she saw him outside, trembling uncontrollably, muttering in a shaky voice, "Young master, there's a ghost! There's a ghost!"

"Ghost?" Lucas was stunned. What was going on here? Why was the wolfgirl acting like this? She had kicked the door open as soon as she arrived at his house.

Mina, standing beside him, immediately drew her military knife and held it in front of Lucas, her face serious as she looked at Freya, who was standing at the door of the dining hall. She seemed anxious, her gaze fixed on Annie's retreating figure.

"Freya, what do you want to do?" Mina's eyes were sharp, filled with intensity.

"Move aside!" Freya shouted with a slight tremor in her voice, "Princess, it's me, Freya!"

"You're lying! Freya died!" Annie's voice was low and hoarse as she screamed, "She died years ago! She's been dead... Wuwuwu..."

"I... I didn't die, Princess, I killed them all!" Freya's tears fell down her cheeks, and she couldn't hold back, taking two steps forward. She had finally found the Princess.

At that time, the slave traders had severely injured Freya, but she couldn't stop worrying about Annie. That's why she pushed through the pain and managed to survive.

"Really?" Annie wiped her tears on Lucas's sleeve, carefully turning her head to look at Freya. She bit her lower lip, her eyes filled with tears as she gazed at Freya.

"Really!" Freya flashed a heart-stirring smile, though her tears kept flowing.

"Uuuu... Freya!" Annie cried out, running toward her with open arms, throwing herself into Freya's embrace.

"Princess, your loyal servant, Freya, is here!" Freya tightly hugged Annie, choking on her words. "I've finally found you."

"Freya, you're alive! This is so wonderful, I'm so happy... Uuuu..." Annie cried uncontrollably.

Back then, Annie had been hiding under Freya's protection, fleeing in a panic. Afterward, she went back to the scene to check but saw many slave traders lurking around. In that situation, she assumed Freya had died, and she fled alone in loneliness.

Later, Annie met Mina, and without her, how could a defenseless person like Annie have survived? She would have starved to death long ago.

"..." Mina's eyes glazed over with a mist of tears as she silently sheathed her dagger. She never imagined that Annie was actually a princess.

In the past, Annie had jokingly told her that she was a princess, but Mina had thought she was just kidding. She never expected it to be true.

Now that Mina thought back, there were many clues she had missed about Annie. For instance, Annie knew many written languages, and her manners and etiquette were always quite proper. Of course, after a while, as her life became harder, all that etiquette was gone, and she reverted to whatever was necessary to survive, even stealing food when needed.

Nicole, Ayesha, and Helen, with Hazel in tow, stood dumbfounded in the doorway of the dining room, staring blankly at the weeping Annie and Freya.

"So Annie is the one Freya was looking for? And that flat-chested woman that the elder was talking about is..." Ayesha couldn't help but cover her face. Could it be this coincidental? She recognized Freya now, the same person who occasionally rested in the tribe.

"Oh my god! Annie is the princess of the Valtoria Beastkin Kingdom?" Helen's mouth dropped open. She couldn't fathom how the usually mischievous and sometimes quirky fox woman could suddenly transform into a princess.

"Command! Immediately seal all information," Lucas said, his face serious. The fact that Annie was a princess could not be allowed to leak out. Otherwise, all sorts of trouble would ensue. He had a bad feeling that a 'storm' was about to break.

"Yes!" Mina replied seriously, having come to the same conclusion. She turned around to give the order to seal the information.
