Chapter 54: The Power of a Father's Love
Though labeled as a weapons store, there weren't many over-the-top firearms. The only notable exception was a Barrett sniper rifle. Considering the zombies and Lickers they had encountered so far, Peyton picked up a large-caliber machine gun, strapping several drum magazines and ammo belts onto himself, looking armed to the teeth.
"Peyton, take this."
Chang Wei emerged from behind a wall where he had found the store owner, who had evidently taken his own life with a gun. The walls were plastered with illegal weapons.
"Are these all automatic weapons?"
Peyton was taken aback. In normal times, they would've thought the store owner was insane. Now, they felt he hadn't been insane enough.
"With your build and muscles, you should be using this!"
Chang Wei tossed Peyton an AA-12 fully automatic shotgun.
"There are four 32-round drum magazines for this. Pair it with an automatic rifle, and even if we run into more of those bloody monsters, you'll be fine."
Chang Wei wasn't sure if they'd encounter another Nemesis, but it was better to be prepared.
As it turned out, no man could refuse a shotgun. The moment Peyton saw the AA-12, he forgot about every other weapon.
However, Chang Wei still handed him a fully-equipped MK18 automatic rifle loaded with heavier 77-grain Mk.262 rounds.
"This store owner was insane," Peyton remarked, adding that he absolutely loved the guy for it.
Before Alice could say anything, Chang Wei handed her a Remington M870 shotgun and an automatic rifle.
"This shotgun is perfect for beginners. One round will deal with those bloody Lickers. Here are armor-piercing slugs and 12-gauge shells. As for the G3A3 automatic rifle, it's German-made, with a 7.62mm caliber for impressive firepower. Attach an optical sight, and it can double as a sniper rifle."
If the Night Demon from John Wick could handle multiple rifles on his own, Alice should have no problem. Giving her a mere handgun would be a waste.
"Dante, aren't you a priest? Why do you know so much about firearms?"
Jill couldn't help but ask.
Even in a gun-saturated country like America, not everyone could be so well-versed in so many weapons.
"Didn't I mention it before? I'm an exorcist priest," Chang Wei said.
"… Are there really demons in this world?"
"Is that even a question? You've already seen monsters, and you're still doubting the existence of demons?"
Jill didn't know how to respond. While Chang Wei's words sounded reasonable, it somehow felt like he was throwing logic bombs at her.
Meanwhile, the phone in the weapons store didn't ring like in the original storyline.
Naturally, over a hundred T-virus Hunters would shred even a Nemesis to pieces, let alone a group of so-called gods in human form.
That doctor was probably already dead.
"Are you all ready?"
As for himself, Chang Wei settled on an M4, fully equipped with attachments. He felt like he was playing PUBG.
…
Dr. Ashford took a deep breath.
After the unidentified B.O.W.s appeared, he realized things were going south and chose to flee.
For a man in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down, escaping was nothing short of a miracle.
He didn't want anything to happen to his daughter, so he summoned the power of fatherly love and managed to escape through the chaos of blood and death.
"Angela…"
Even though he had escaped, Dr. Ashford knew a cripple like himself couldn't possibly rescue his daughter from the danger-filled school.
Thankfully, he had already identified some potential helpers through Raccoon City's surveillance cameras. Now, he just needed to contact them.
Ring ring ring!!!
As the group was walking, a roadside phone suddenly rang.
Chang Wei looked up in surprise and noticed a nearby camera. He made a hand gesture—Morse code.
Dr. Ashford understood the gesture and made the phone ring in an interrupted pattern.
"It's for us," Chang Wei said, turning to Jill and Alice.
The two women were stunned by Chang Wei's skillful maneuver. Had exorcist priests become this tech-savvy?
"Of course! We use machine guns loaded with silver bullets forged from crosses inscribed with scripture to break through demonic defenses. Then we finish them off with holy water flashbangs or silver rocket-propelled grenades filled with sanctified water."
"Really?"
"Of course not. You actually believed that?"
Alice didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Chang Wei was great—handsome, even—but he was just… a bit of a clown.
For now, though, the priority was the phone call. It was obviously from someone at Umbrella Corporation.
While Alice hesitated, Jill grabbed the phone without hesitation.
Women loved to show off, especially in front of a high-value man. Even if this man was a clown, his face and body were enough to make up for it!
