Chapter 22: The Kidnapped
I stood beside Rex, my hands behind my back.
A lot had happened this last month.
Following the Battle of Mon Calamari and the Phase-II Clone Armor, the 501st Battalion was made into the 501st Elite Legion.
And Orange Company was made into the 332nd Battalion, under the direct command of Commander Ahsoka Tano, but essentially me.
We had switched our armor to a copy of the 332nd in lore, and my armor too had become to same. I always preferred that armor, and it came with a lot of boosts.
I hadn't participated in the Battle of Umbara due to the decision of only bringing the Torrent Battalion, and in all honesty, I was still training the 3 new Companies brought into the 332nd Battalion alongside Ahsoka.
But now, infront of me stood the planet of Kiros, the planet the Separatist had just kidnapped, the entire population.
"Vaughn, take Lightning Platoon down to the surface, you'll join us in the early assault." Rex told me and I nodded.
Saluting Rex and the 2 Generals before rushing off.
"Cameron, bring Lieutenant Platoon into the LAAT´s, you get to participate in the early attack." I said through the comms.
Yes, Cameron had been promoted to Lieutenant, and Lucky his second in command.
"Yes, sir!" He said back.
Great, now we've just gotta deal with a kidnapped population.
...
I gripped the handles, before pushing them forward, rushing behind Anakin, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan and Rex.
I was driving a single manned-speeder, behind the 2 pairs in the front. Lightning Company behind me on speeders as well.
"Why are the civilians so silent?" Cameron asked as he drove up to me.
"I'm considering the same. Sure I´d be great if we could avoid them in Battle. But this isn't the style of the Separatist. This is either a honourable commander, or someone else is behind it." I told him and he nodded.
"I agree, I´ll tell the men to be on guard, it might be a trap." He said and I nodded.
"Good, let's trust in the generals for now. They've definitely noticed the same." I told him as he slowed down slightly to meet his Platoon.
"Biker droids! Dead ahead." Ahsoka said as Commando Droids appeared infront of us.
"Platoon, tighten up. Form up on me!" Anakin shouted.
"You heard the man, form up." I repeated the order as we closed in behind Anakin.
We then opened fire as I pressed the fire button, and my bike turrets opened fire, immediately shooting down one of the bikes, sending the Commando Droid flying.
And as we drove past them, I diverted to the left, crashing into the Commando Droid and sending him into the laser of Cameron, killing the droid.
And with that we pushed through them, and the Commando Droids let us, forming up behind us instead.
"Spread out!" I shouted and the men complied, spreading out to avoid being easy pickings.
At the same time, both Ahsoka and Rex, whom were sat at the secondary seat of their speeders.
Turned their seats around and began shooting at the droids behind us.
Rex was one of the more veteran troops found in the Clone Army, and Ahsoka had the force, so with that. They quickly demolished the enemy speeders.
And with that, we pushed forward. Decimating the last separatist outposts, till we surroundered the headquarters.
...….
Soon enough, the rest of the force caught up, as we began setting camp. I was tasked with patrolling some of the nearby building, to check for separatist presence.
Additionally, I just barely spotted General Obi Wan head off, towards the main building. Where the Separatist Commander was holed up.
I patrolled with Sergeant Typho, Cameron and Lucky, as we cleared a nearby civilian House.
However, we were brought out of our search by a large explosion, as a nearby civilian building fell down on one of our walkers.
And we were blasted back by the impact, hitting the wall of the building we had just cleared.
"Ugh, fuck." I groaned as I slowly stood up, Cameron, Lucky and Typhoon did so as well, I hit my helmet a few times, as the ringing sound slowly vanished.
But another replaced it.
"SPEAAAR!" I heard a shout, and it came from the usually silent and stoic Sergeant Typho.
I quickly turned to the building which had fallen, it was currently burning. But worse, I recognised it. Sergeant Spear had taken 3 men to check it out.
At the same time, I saw Typho roughly standing up, and prepared to bolt towards the fallen building.
Looking at Cameron and Lucky, we all knew what we needed to do.
As Typho rushed forward, Cameron and Lucky grabbed his arms, holding him back.
"Let. Me. Go!" He shouted, attempting to break through, but I stood infront of him.
"Typho, calm down!" I tried to reason, but he didn´t listen to anything I said.
I knew Cameron and Lucky was as shocked as me, Typho was always stoic and cold, he rarely reacted. Even at the death of us clones, but now. It was as if all had toppled over.
"You rushing in there, will not save Sergeant Spear. It will just make it worse!" I shouted at him, but he didn´t listen as he broke through, Cameron and Lucky loosing their grip.
He made to rush past me, but I wouldn´t have it.
I pounced on him, throwing him to the ground, with his back to the ground.
I sat ontop of him, and I grabbed his arms with mine, but he continued to resist, using his feet.
"Fuck, grab his arms!" I shouted at Cameron and Lucky, both of whom followed my command, grabbing his arms.
At the same time, I sat further back, locking his feet to the ground, before I reached for his helmet, throwing it off, and slapping him in the face, he needed to wake up.
"SERGEANT TYPHO! YOU WILL LISTEN, AND YOU WILL LISTEN WELL!" I shouted at him with the most authoritative tone I could. And he stopped resisting.
"Sergeant Spear Is a strong man, he will survive. But you need to get a grip, Sergeant. This is war! You cannot panic in the middle of it, cause a loud explosion happened close to your friend." I said, and Typho slowly calmed down, until his eyes widened and he understood what he had done.
"I'm sorry Captain, I don't know what happened." He said, and I slowly got off him.
"I know, Typho. But this can't go on, return to the ship and take a break. You've been too cold, holding it all deep inside. Find someone to talk to, I bet most officers would welcome you." I said, as Typho tried to complain.
"Sir, that is unnecessary, I am fine." He tried, but I wouldn't have any of it.
"Sergeant Typho, you are to return to the ship for the remainder of our stay on this planet, Corporal Cameron will take over your duties." I said, and finally he nodded. Standing up, and walking away.
"Lucky, go talk to him. Cameron you have to remain here to take over his duties." I told the both of them, and they nodded walking away.
Us clones, are not so mentally invincible. In fact we're just as likely to struggle mentally, as everyone else.
A fact which both the Jedi and the Republic, seem to underestimate. Or ignore. And the signs became all too obvious the further the war raged.
