Spider-Man Mayhem

Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Fantastic Four (4)

[Third Person's PoV]

"Alright, who wants to test their powers first? Any volunteers?" Aria asked as her spider-bot swam around the room, scanning everyone present.

"You know, I'd usually jump at the chance, but I think Gwen needs the help more than anyone right now," Johnny said, motioning towards Gwen, who was trembling. The blanket she clutched had turned into solid ice, barely keeping her warm.

"Her problem is actually easy to solve," Aria explained. "All the new freezing energy she's gained is trapped inside her. It's looking for a way out. She's holding in more energy than her body can handle, which is why she seems like she's on top of Mount Everest."

"Come," Bruce said gently, guiding Gwen. "We'll take you to an isolated room so you can release all that cold energy. In the meantime, everyone else should change into their unstable molecules uniforms. They'll be really helpful right now."

"Good idea," Reed agreed, nodding. Peter gestured for everyone to follow him to the changing room.

As they exited the changing rooms, their breaths became visible in the air, the temperature dropping drastically.

Harry and Peter exchanged uneasy glances as the cold enveloped them.

Peter and the others rushed towards the source of the cold and were stunned by the sight. The entire room was frozen, blue glowing ice covering the floor, walls, ceiling, and the door.

Bruce stood a bit further back, looking at the door with a horrified expression. "Those temperatures are dangerous..."

As the door creaked open, a fog of icy air rushed out, enveloping them.

"Is... is it snowing?" Lizzy exclaimed in disbelief.

From the fog emerged Gwen, wearing her Ghost-Spider outfit, her mask in hand. A misty breath escaped her mouth as she exhaled. "Ahhhh~ I feel ten times better now," she said, visibly refreshed.

"Sorry about the damages," she apologized, stepping out of the room.

"So, did you find out what powers you have?" Peter asked, a mix of amusement and concern as he surveyed the ice-coated room.

"Yes! I can control Zero Point Energy," Gwen said proudly.

"But what about all this ice?" Reed asked, intrigued by the potential of her powers.

"That's the thing," Gwen explained. "I'm able to bring objects to a state of absolute zero, as a side effect of it I'm causing them to freeze completely—or at least that's how Aria described it. Apparently, a cosmic storm intermingled with my bio-ice, which is why I can freeze things so thoroughly."

"That's insane!" Peter exclaimed, astonished.

"I know, right?!" Gwen echoed excitedly. "And check this out..."

Gwen curled her fingers, forming a bright blue energy in her palm. The energy transformed into a bird that appeared almost lifelike. It flapped its wings rapidly, let out a soft tweet, and flew up, rubbing against Gwen's face before darting off like lightning.

The bird seemed to fly through Peter before dissipating.

"Pete?" Harry asked, noticing how rigid Peter had become.

"I can't move..." Peter muttered, his mouth the only part of his body that could move.

Harry shook Peter, realizing how stiff he was. "He's as stiff as a board!" Harry caught him before he could fall over.

"Can you undo this?" Peter asked, struggling to move.

Gwen giggled and snapped her fingers, releasing Peter from the paralysis.

"Thanks," Peter said with a sigh of relief.

"Johnny… I think your powers are going to be needed here," Peter said, glancing at him before looking back at the ice.

Johnny smirked, cracking his knuckles. "Time to shine."

"Hey, what about me? I'm a pyrokinetic too, you know," Lizzy pouted. "Fire's my thing."

"If you unleash your flames, you might release the cosmic radiation in your skin," Peter explained. "Let's hold off on yours for now. Aria's already building a container for it, so don't worry." He motioned for Johnny to proceed.

"FLAME ON!" Johnny shouted, igniting himself in a burst of flames. He flew around the room, melting the ice Gwen had created. The ice quickly turned to water, which Johnny transformed into steam.

"Johnny, get inside the room Gwen was in! It's a testing unit designed to contain energy outputs without damaging the surroundings!" Peter shouted, noticing Johnny's flames were intensifying.

Johnny zipped into the testing unit, and Peter shot a web at the control panel, sealing the door behind him.

Once inside, Johnny asked, "Now what?"

"See how hot you can get," Reed instructed.

"I don't need to try too hard," Johnny replied with a cheesy grin. "Because, baby, I am smoking."

Everyone rolled their eyes, but their amusement was short-lived as a flash of bright light erupted, followed by a heatwave that made them step back.

"How hot is he getting?!" Reed exclaimed in disbelief.

"Aria, give us the readings!" Peter ordered.

"Currently at 1,000°F and rising... 1,230°F, 1,500°F, 2,000°F, 2,521°F," Aria reported.

"That's enough, Johnny!" Reed shouted as the door began to glow red, on the verge of melting.

"Haha! What do you mean? I can go even higher!" Johnny shouted, clearly enjoying himself.

"Aria, stop him!" Peter commanded, seeing the danger escalate.

Johnny was suddenly engulfed in a thick layer of fire-extinguishing foam as the door, now thoroughly melted, gave way.

"What was that door made of?" Susan asked, amazed.

"Titanium," Bruce answered, equally stunned. "That crazy kid... He was reaching temperatures close to the surface of the sun."

"If he could truly go higher, Johnny has the potential to reach supernova levels," Reed theorized, glancing at the data on Bruce's tablet.

"That was awesome! Why didn't you let me go higher?" Johnny complained, wiping foam off his face.

"Weren't you listening?" Harry asked, exasperated. "You were about to go supernova—hotter than the sun. You could have destroyed the planet and everyone on it."

"Cool," Johnny said proudly, before quickly adding, "I mean, I know it's bad, don't get me wrong." He shot a sheepish glance at Susan. "But it's still really cool."

Reed turned to Bruce. "Were you able to figure out how Johnny's powers work?"

"Yes, Aria just sent me the analysis. Take a look." Bruce swiped up, projecting a hologram of Johnny's cells. "Normally, human cells convert energy from food into ATP for bodily functions. The cosmic storm you all experienced triggered a genetic rearrangement in Johnny's ATP production sites, creating a new form of molecule. This molecule not only provides ordinary energy but also contains large reserves of latent chemical energy. Another mutation enables his cells to convert this energy into a plasma-like state, which Johnny regulates subconsciously."

"Huh?" Lizzy, Johnny, MJ, and Ben echoed, while Felicia, in her cat form, merely tilted her head in confusion.

"English, please," Johnny requested, looking exasperated.

"Basically, the cosmic storm mutated your cells so they can hold plasma-level heat," Peter simplified for them.

"Why didn't you just say that in the first place?" Lizzy asked, her expression puzzled.

Bruce felt the corner of his lips twitch, but he refrained from retorting. Instead, he shook his head and asked, "Should we move on to the next person?"

"I say we move on to Mary Jane," Aria's voice chimed in through the room.

Peter turned to the Spider-bot, puzzled. "Why?"

"Because, out of everyone here, she's by far the most interesting," Aria responded, prompting all eyes to shift to MJ, who was pointing at herself in disbelief.

"Me? But all I got is eight eyes and the ability to understand and speak to animals. How's that interesting?" MJ asked, looking perplexed.

"That's only one of your many powers," Aria replied enigmatically.

"Many powers?" Peter questioned, his curiosity piqued. They all thought they'd only developed one power each, except for Susan, who seemed to have two, though they hadn't confirmed it yet.

"Yes. Those additional eyes around Mary Jane's are not just decorative or a simple mutation. Each one is capable of wielding and possessing its own unique power. So it's safe to say she had gained the most out of everyone from this cosmic storm," Aria explained.

MJ turned to Peter with a smug smile. "Well, Tiger, looks like I just hit the jackpot for once."
