Soul-Slaying Maiden: Master Of Ancient Divine Weapons

Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Prelude to the Nightfall

"Deliver a letter?"

Han Zhan retracted his fist.

The white mist surrounding his body seemed alive, flowing back into his body from all directions and vanishing without a trace.

The "genius of the Li family," Li Changhao, who had been beaten to the ground, had actually regained consciousness. Never doubt the resilience of a pure martial artist.

But feeling humiliated, he thought it was better to keep pretending to be unconscious and get dragged away by his companions than to get up now. So he decided to continue playing dead.

At this moment, Yi Fan also deactivated his Immortal ability and walked over.

"What do we do with these Li family guys?"

Hearing Han Zhan's question, Yi Fan shrugged,"What else can we do? Let them go. You've got someone backing you up, but I don't want our pilot zone in Deep Blue City to turn into a Li family battleground."

"Let's go, let's go. Drink some wine."

Fights really weren't as enjoyable as drinking, Yi Fan thought to himself, rubbing his slightly sore stomach.

This was just a small episode.

Back at the Breeze Tavern, the four of them drank for a while longer before heading home, satisfied.

———

A nondescript alley in Deep Blue City.

Several gray rats crawled out from a manhole cover. Their eyes, unusually intelligent, scanned the surroundings like humans before fully emerging.

One of the rats suddenly spoke in human language, "I still don't get it. If the company wants to find Han Zhan, why don't they just approach him directly?"

"Foolish. He's living with the War God of Daxia right now. If you want to deal with him, be my guest."

"So why exactly are we infiltrating Deep Blue City? Why did the company assign us this secret mission?"

At this, there was a brief silence in the alley.

Finally, one of the larger gray rats slowly uttered three words:"Shennong Cauldron."

"Han Zhan just returned from the frontlines, so he's bound to rest for a while. While he's letting his guard down, we'll seize the opportunity to talk to him privately, avoiding attention—especially from that one."

They all feared Li Shutong.

But as they talked, none of them noticed a calico cat crouched on the gray brick wall nearby, its eyes fixed intently on the rats.

Moments later, a commotion broke out in the alley.

"Meow!"

"Squeak, squeak, squeak!"

"Meow, meow, meow!"

"Damn it!"

[Deep Blue City, Seaside Beach]

Despite the apocalyptic insect plague, many people still lingered near the beach, admiring the vast ocean.

As evening fell, the setting sun bathed the entire sea in golden light.

In the late autumn chill, the seaside grew particularly cold in the evening, and the sparse travelers began to return to the city.

The last person still lingering on the beach was a photography enthusiast.

He held up his camera, constantly adjusting angles to capture the shimmering waves reflecting the sunset.

Through his lens, he suddenly spotted a small black insect.

It appeared to be flying in from the horizon, but with the sea stretching endlessly beyond, where could it have come from?

As he pondered this, the insect rapidly grew larger and larger in his viewfinder.

What had seemed a thousand meters away now appeared right before him.

"AH!" He cried out instinctively.

On the shore, a patrolling city guardian, riding a shared bicycle along the seawall, heard the shout and rushed toward the source.

"Hey, are you alright?" The guardian parked his bike on the seawall and ran down to the beach.

The photographer, looking dazed, shook his head,"Really okay? Rea…lly…okay?"

Suddenly, the photographer's eyes flashed pure black, and the guardian's speech slowed, his pupils turning pitch-black within seconds.

"Shall we go?"

"Alright."

"In a hurry. Let's use your bike."

"Alright."

———

[Han Zhan's Residence, Li Shutong's Villa]

Watching Li Fengchun devour food, Han Zhan and Xia Youwei exchanged glances, both seeing the confusion in each other's eyes.

'Is this guy really from the Li family in Jinghai? Could he be a beggar?'

"Eat up, why aren't you all eating? Come on, dig in."

Li Fengchun urged them while spearing a lamb chop onto his plate.

"Mr. Li… I ran into a young man named Li on the street today and gave him a beating," Han Zhan hesitated, unsure how to address Li Fengchun since Li Shutong hadn't introduced them.

He thought Li Fengchun might react angrily, but to his surprise, the man waved it off.

"Oh, you mean Li Changhao? No problem, no problem. That brat is spoiled in the family and looks down on everyone."

"Beat him up! Beat him hard! If you go easy, I'll be mad at you."

Mouth stuffed with food, Li Fengchun mumbled, but Han Zhan barely made out his words.

"Don't look at me like that. I'll leave after this meal."

Li Fengchun gulped down his food and water, then turned to Li Shutong, "Uncle, are you sure you won't come back to help?"

"My mind is made up."

Li Fengchun nodded knowingly, stood up to leave, but the doorbell rang.

"Is it the butler, Afu, returning?"

Han Zhan opened the door to find a stranger—a city guardian.

"Hello, I have a mission from headquarters to personally deliver to Mr. Li."

City Guardian Headquarters? Han Zhan raised an eyebrow and stepped aside.

The guardian nodded and quickly approached the dining table.

Suddenly, Li Shutong's eyes snapped open. Without a word, he shoved Xia Youwei and Li Lingzhen toward Han Zhan, applying just enough force to send them safely to his side.

"Old War God, your sixth sense is as sharp as ever."

The guardian hadn't moved, yet his figure seemed to approach the table in swift, ghost-like steps.

"Rank Nine Insect Emperor, Nightmare."

Li Shutong stared warily while attempting to push Li Fengchun away.

But when he touched Li Fengchun, the latter grabbed his hand.

In the next instant—

BOOM!

Li Fengchun exploded—not in blood and gore, but transforming into a fleshy, gelatinous monster spreading from Li Shutong's left hand.

Li Shutong's gaze turned icy as he looked at the Insect Emperor, Nightmare, across from him.

"So, you've allied with the Li family to kill me?"

"Kill you? No, no. We can't kill you yet. But before wiping out everyone else, you'll stay right here in this flesh boundary designed just for you."

From the ground beneath them, endless darkness spread outward, quickly engulfing much of Deep Blue City.

Han Zhan and the others looked up, seeing only a crimson blood moon in the sky.
