Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Departure! The Sisters Reunite!
Leng Yaozhu was known for her decisive nature. After deciding in the morning to search for the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast, she and Jing Shaoyu set out that very afternoon.
"Shaoyu, ask the Holy Unicorn for the general location of that Nightmare Demon Eye Beast," Leng Yaozhu said while driving, her eyes focused on the road ahead. Jing Shaoyu sat in the passenger seat.
"Anya, where exactly is your sister?" Jing Shaoyu asked, poking the miniature version of the Holy Unicorn perched on his shoulder.
The Holy Unicorn had introduced herself with the grand name Ankashia Sanctum Lux, but Jing Shaoyu found it too long and simply called her Anya for convenience.
"She resides in the southwest of the continent, in an oasis within a desert," Anya replied.
"The southwest, in a desert oasis?" Jing Shaoyu repeated, relaying the information to Leng Yaozhu.
"Ah, that must be the Vulcan Desert," Leng Yaozhu said, her eyes lighting up.
"The Vulcan Desert?" Jing Shaoyu's thoughts immediately turned to the continent's map. "Isn't that the largest desert on the continent? I thought it didn't have any oases."
"Who knows? We'll find out," Leng Yaozhu said with a sigh. "I'm quite familiar with the Vulcan Desert. I once trained there for six months, only leaving after breaking through to the Soul Sage rank."
"That's incredible!" Jing Shaoyu exclaimed, surprised.
Leng Yaozhu chuckled. "Yes, so navigating the Vulcan Desert shouldn't be a problem for us. If the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast is indeed hiding there, that's good news."
"Absolutely!" Jing Shaoyu agreed with a nod.
The journey from the central continent to the southwest was arduous, as the roads weren't as well-maintained as those in the southeast. It took them three days to reach Yanshan City, the largest city bordering the Vulcan Desert.
The plan was to rest for the night before entering the desert on foot the following day.
That evening, in the hotel, Jing Shaoyu sat cross-legged on his bed, watching Anya interact with his other spirit soul, the Golden-winged Jade Lark, Hong Fei. Although Hong Fei had become a black-ringed spirit soul, she appeared sluggish compared to Anya, whose extraordinary intelligence and agility far surpassed her.
This wasn't Hong Fei's fault. Anya, as the Holy Unicorn, possessed wisdom and agility beyond most humans.
"Anya, can you sense your sister's exact location from here?" Jing Shaoyu asked.
"My lord, allow me to try," Anya replied. She straightened up, closed her eyes, and her horn began to glow and pulse. Jing Shaoyu couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu. Isn't this just like an antenna? he thought with amusement.
Before he could comment further, an image flashed through his mind—a vivid oasis in the middle of a desert, complete with a lake, forest, grassland, and surrounding dunes. By the lake's edge lay a black creature.
"This is where my sister resides," Anya declared.
"I see." Jing Shaoyu nodded, his mind racing. The image was detailed enough that they only needed to find a matching oasis in the Vulcan Desert. "Anya, I'll need your help tomorrow. Are you ready?"
"Of course, my lord! I am always at your service," Anya replied solemnly.
"Good, I trust you," Jing Shaoyu said with a smile.
At that moment, Hong Fei flew in front of him, chirping and circling his head as if to remind him of her presence.
"Alright, alright, I see you," Jing Shaoyu said with a laugh, catching her in his hand and gently stroking her feathers.
Meanwhile, deep within the Vulcan Desert, the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast suddenly opened her eyes. Her black orbs, with only a pinpoint of white in the center, glimmered with surprise and joy. Her voice, rich and sultry, broke the silence. "My sister? She's coming to find me? Wonderful! This is truly wonderful!"
The Nightmare Demon Eye Beast stood, her body trembling with excitement. It was clear she was genuinely overjoyed.
However, one couldn't help but wonder—how would she react when she learned that her sister's purpose was to persuade her to become the spirit soul of a human boy? Anger? Disappointment? Or sadness?
At dawn, Jing Shaoyu and Leng Yaozhu departed from Yanshan City and entered the Vulcan Desert.
As the largest desert on the Douluo Continent, the Vulcan Desert embodied every harsh desert feature: scorching heat, endless dunes, and an oppressive sense of desolation. Even Jing Shaoyu, despite his resistance to the elements as a Soul Ancestor, felt slightly uncomfortable in the harsh environment.
Fortunately, Leng Yaozhu maintained a low-altitude flight, with Jing Shaoyu clinging tightly to her waist, allowing them to travel swiftly and without difficulty.
Following Anya's guidance, they soon arrived at an oasis. Leng Yaozhu landed atop the highest dune, overlooking the lush greenery and shimmering waters below.
"Teacher, this must be the place," Jing Shaoyu said, recognizing the oasis's features—lake, forest, grassland, and surrounding sand dunes—as identical to the image Anya had shared.
"Indeed," Leng Yaozhu said with a nod, her expression turning serious. "I can sense a powerful presence, equivalent to a Rank 95 Super Douluo. It must be the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast."
"Really?!" Jing Shaoyu's face lit up with excitement. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
"Hold on," Leng Yaozhu cautioned. "Stay behind me, and don't act without my permission. Understood?"
"Understood, Teacher," Jing Shaoyu replied. He knew better than to take risks when facing a fierce beast. As a Soul Ancestor, he was little more than an ant compared to such a formidable entity.
"May I take the lead?" Anya asked hesitantly, appearing at their side.
"Sure," Jing Shaoyu said after glancing at Leng Yaozhu, who nodded her approval. "Are you planning to try convincing your sister first?"
"Yes," Anya replied earnestly. "My sister has not forgotten our mission. If we can avoid conflict and have her willingly serve you, that would be the best outcome."
"Let's hope so," Leng Yaozhu murmured, her eyes flickering thoughtfully.
With that, the trio entered the oasis.
As soon as they stepped into the oasis, the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast sensed their presence. However, she didn't react aggressively. Instead, she lazily continued strolling by the lake's edge. She could feel her sister's aura emanating from the intruders and concluded that her sister would approach her directly. All she needed to do was wait.
Moments later, Jing Shaoyu and Leng Yaozhu, following closely behind Anya, finally encountered the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast.
From a distance, the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast bore a striking resemblance to Anya. Both were unicorns, but while the Holy Unicorn was golden and adorned with rainbow-like patterns, the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast was entirely black, with wings of the same dark hue. A faint, eerie purple mist surrounded her, giving her an intimidatingly cold aura.
Instead of the signature horn of a unicorn, her forehead bore a single vertical, blood-red eye streaked with purple runes. Her two other eyes were jet black with white pinpricks at the c
enter. Just looking into them gave an unsettling sensation of one's soul being drawn away.
