Chapter 6: chapter 6

'Outcall' – a magic power explosion that occurred 50 years ago and shook the world. Following this event, mysterious entities like Towers, Dungeons, and monsters began to appear in the world. These existences of chaos shook the very foundation of humanity. The blue planet of humans turned into hell. Monsters devoured humans, and Towers and Dungeons ceaselessly produced monsters like factories.

In front of these newfound calamities, humanity's science and technology lost their meaning. Society collapsed and the rule of law returned to the law of the jungle. Survivors of the tragedy crumbled to their instincts, losing the virtues that made them human.

Within this hellfire, Heroes emerged shining stars.

With transcendental powers, they corrected the chaos. The world was reconstructed just as quickly as it collapsed. Using Gifts bestowed by heaven, they brought about miracles with a flicker of their hands. With their help, humanity recovered their lost virtue, joining the Heroes with revitalized technology and science. 'Magic science' and 'magic engineering' was thus born.

Eventually, Towers, Dungeons, and monsters were all designated as targets to be destroyed. However, the differences among them were great.

Towers required many people and a long period of time to be conquered. On the other hand, depending on their difficulty, Dungeons could be conquered by a single person, so long as he knew its location.

Towers gave better rewards, containing treasures that humans had never dreamed of.

Then what was the name of the Tower conquered by the guild Apostle of Saints on August 17th, 2023, and what was its reward?

"Minor questions like these don't come up often, but you should still know about conquests of Towers and Dungeons."

Kim hajin already knows about this due to his gift 'Observation and Reading.'But his mind on something else.

It was none other than Last Bench Team.

'Who the hell are they? I don't remember creating handsome guys like in my novel at all!!'

Ritsuka, Karma, Yuji already had fan base from girls in his class. But they are crazy, so no one approached them.

'Wait! Yuji looks average like me!'

He was revived.

He truned his head front and saw another beauty who rivals main heroines, No she is another level beauty.

'who is she? Damn it. She looks like other world beauty at 17 years old! I already got complains from readers for creating extra Heroines for baiting readers into fight in ship wars only to Suho love a Older women?'

When he tried to use his gift on them. He couldn't find a single detail. Same with Artoria.

He was frustrated with his life. He got sent into different world and forced to play role in his novel.

[Message]

Suddenly a message appeared in his tablet.

[Due to readers disliked the perfect good protagonist. If this continues, there will be risk of readers getting dislike the story. So New original protagonists and characters are added to the story. Use them and complete the story]

'What?'

He was shocked.

'Ritsuka, Oreki, and Karma are original main characters. Because they look more and cool handsome Suho. Yuji and Artoria are Original characters' Hajin already guessed from his analysis.

'No, I won't Depend on some Original characters which I don't know anything. I will only depend on my characters.'

From author perspective he was right. But was it correct decision. Only time will tell.

Unfortunately, Kim Hajin will soon realise how fucked he is!! Because this is Dark world but not his slice of life novel. Real enemies are waiting for taking over this universe itself.

(Ritsuka's POV)

Morning class was 'Post-Outcall History' today. It was only the second day of our school, and I was already questioning my life choices.

Everyone had a tablet in front of them, displaying the Post-Outcall History textbook.

I tapped the screen, scanning the contents—and nearly dropped the tablet in disbelief.

"Why does it have 400 pages?" I murmured under my breath, feeling my soul slowly leaving my body.

Beside me, Yuji looked even worse off. His face had paled as if he had received a death sentence.

"Four… hundred…" he whispered, horrified. "This is too much for a morning class… This is illegal, right? Someone tell me this is illegal…"

Before I could sympathize with him, a familiar voice chimed in with mocking amusement.

"And why do we have to learn about Korean history, specifically about dungeons and rewards that happened in Korea?" Karma scoffed, flipping through the pages with a dramatic sigh. "This entire book feels biased. How is this fair?"

A lazy voice responded, cutting through the complaints like an indifferent breeze.

"Idiots. We came to a Korean Academy. The author of this subject is also Korean."

We all turned to stare at the culprit—Houtarou Oreki.

His half-lidded eyes barely left his screen as he leaned back in his chair, exuding the very definition of minimal effort.

Yuji and I exchanged looks before turning back to Oreki.

"Wait, you already know this?" I asked, confused.

Oreki simply nodded. "Of course."

Karma raised an eyebrow. "Tch. Typical Mr. Energy Saver."

"I'm just following my motto," Oreki responded, voice utterly relaxed.

Ah, right. Houtarou Oreki's personal life philosophy:

"If I don't have to do something, I won't, but if I have to, I'll do it quickly."

Yuji groaned, dramatically dropping his head onto the desk. "You sound way too confident for someone who does the bare minimum."

Oreki ignored him. Instead, he yawned before offering some actually useful information.

"Also, don't slack off on this subject. It's an easy scoring subject."

Yuji lifted his head. "Oh?!"

Karma narrowed his eyes. "Define 'easy' before I get my hopes up."

Oreki shrugged. "Just memorize the important stuff. The rewards from Towers, names of monsters, locations of Dungeons in Korea, conquerors of Towers and Dungeons, and countless other details."

'Countless!'

"Countless?!" Yuji choked. "That doesn't sound easy at all! Lazy bastard, you're insane!"

'Took the words from my mouth! I agree with yuji' I thought.

Karma smirked, nudging Yuji. "You're just realizing that?"

I sighed, tuning out their bickering as my eyes wandered around the classroom.

A few rows away, Artoria was sitting upright, eyes focused on the professor.

Her back was perfectly straight, posture impeccable, and there wasn't a single sign of boredom on her face.

The very picture of a model student.

I exhaled, slouching further in my seat. "I bet she's the top scorer."

Meanwhile, I was just aiming to barely pass.

'I guess, We have Big difference here'

Karma looked at Ritsuka and Artoria. He smiled.

'Looks like he finally got crush on someone. But is she worth of my dude. No, I'm thinking too much and They two didn't show any signs of interest in eachother yet.' He thought.

Karma was clearly bored out of his mind.

His posture screamed disinterest as he absentmindedly tapped his fingers against the tablet. Eventually, his wandering eyes landed on the girl sitting in front of us.

Chae Nayun.

A smirk crept onto Karma's lips. He remembered their conversation from yesterday.

The way he had messed with her head. The way she had gone angry and speechless. The way she was fuming like an annoyed tomboy.

And just like that—he started laughing.

Not loud enough to get the professor's attention, but definitely enough to be heard.

Chae Nayun hated studying. She had the skills to be the top female cadet, but her hatred for written exams kept her from achieving it. Because of this, she was stuck in second place, with Rachel taking the number one spot.

Even if she gnashed her teeth in mortifying defeat, she could never overcome the written exam hurdle.

At that moment, she turned her head slightly, her sharp gaze landing on Karma.

Her curt eyes narrowed at him, full of suspicion.

Karma's smirk only widened.

She must have heard him laughing. After all, Sharpshooters had keen senses.

Chae Nayun's voice was low, barely above a whisper—probably to avoid drawing the professor's attention.

"Do you have nothing better to do than stare at me? I'm starting to think you really were spying on me yesterday."

Ah. She still despised him.

The brief conversation they had last night must have left a bad impression on her.

Karma's expression didn't waver. If anything, her irritation only fueled his amusement.

He leaned back in his chair, resting his chin on his palm, his smirk as infuriating as ever.

"You're mistaken."

He replied, his voice calm, nonchalant—almost mocking.

"Spying on you? Nah. That'd require effort, and you're not interesting enough for that. If anything, it's your fault for being so easy to read."

His eyes gleamed mischievously.

"Like, for example, I can already tell you're still thinking about what I said yesterday."

He made her remember about Sword.

Chae Nayun clicked her tongue, her jaw tightening. She whipped her head back forward without replying.

She didn't want to talk to this lunatic.

Karma let out a soft chuckle, satisfied with his victory.

Ritsuka sighed, watching the exchange.

Shin Jonghak who had crush on Chae saw everything. His eyes are angry on Karma and his 3 friends. He wants to make them know their place. He will not let this side.

Meanwhile, Yuji leaned in, whispering.

"Dude. You're gonna get murdered one day."

Karma shrugged. "Better murdered than bored."

Kim hajin who looked at this scene was shocked. He doesn't know what to do if this original characters distrub the story line. He wants to find a way to stop them changing the story. He thought himself again and again for a skill to Stop them. But failed.

The lesson dragged on.

Places with high mana density.

Monster behavior.

Djinns on the wanted list.

The words blurred together as the professor droned on.

It wasn't unimportant, but sitting through two hours of this was exhausting.

Finally, the bell rang, signaling our temporary freedom.

The gray-haired teacher, adjusting his round glasses, left us with a final warning.

"Make sure to read the notes you took today. Otherwise, you'll cry on the exam."

Yuji and I immediately turned to Karma, our curiosity getting the better of us.

"Alright, spill it," Yuji smirked. "How the hell did you and Chae Nayun even start talking?"

Even Oreki, who usually couldn't care less, glanced up from his tablet. Interest flickered in his eyes.

Karma, ever the entertainer, leaned back in his chair with a smug grin.

"Met her during training yesterday. I just… messed with her a little."

I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Doesn't seem like a little to me."

Yuji snickered. "Dude, no girl would ever fall for you. Stop messing with them"

Oreki, who rarely laughed at anything, let out a rare chuckle. "That makes sense. With that personality, you're more likely to get stabbed than loved."

Karma shot him a glare. "Oh yeah? And what about you, Mr. 'Energy Saver'? Planning to woo someone with your overwhelming enthusiasm?"

Oreki merely shrugged. "That'd require effort. I'm better as single."

We all burst into laughter.

The good mood, however, didn't last for Oreki. His expression shifted as he remembered the next class.

Anti-Monster Combat Training.

Yuji and Karma were practically vibrating with excitement.

"Finally! Some action!" Yuji grinned.

The name said it all. Combat training against monsters.

Of course, we weren't fighting real monsters—only mana puppets, designed to mimic their movements, durability, and destructive power. But even so, there was always a risk of injury.

A loud voice suddenly echoed through the classroom.

"We'll meet at the field in 20 minutes!"

I turned to the speaker—Yi Yeonghan.

Oval face. Small, kind eyes. A muscular build that completely clashed with his soft features.

Since the tension between Kim Suho and Shin Jonghak was a constant problem, the instructor had chosen Yi Yeonghan as our class president—someone neutral who wouldn't get caught in their rivalry.

At that exact moment, two voices spoke at the same time.

"Finally."

Karma and Chae Nayun.

They both blinked, realizing they had spoken in sync.

Chae Nayun's face immediately twisted in disgust when she noticed Karma.

With a scoff, she turned her head away, acting like he didn't exist.

Karma? He just laughed.

"Damn. You're really that annoyed by me? I'm honored."

Chae Nayun didn't reply. But I could see her shoulders tense.

Shin Jonghak got more angry on Karma. He was now pissed off very much.

I sighed, rubbing my temple.

"Why do I feel like I'm watching a sitcom?"

Yuji suddenly grinned, an idea sparking in his eyes.

"Hey, how about we make a bet?"

All of us—except Oreki—perked up.

Karma smirked. "Go on."

"Whoever ranks highest in this training gets to make the loser pay the restaurant fees. Let's eat the amazing food again in red chilli restaurant. I want to eat grandma food again."

We all agreed immediately.

Except Oreki.

He leaned back, arms crossed, looking completely uninterested.

"Not worth it. I'm just aiming for the Top 10. No point in going all out just for a stupid bet."

Karma scoffed. "Wow. So responsible."

I smirked. "Well, I don't plan to hold back either. If I'm going to be top, I might as well aim for number one."

Karma's grin widened.

"Oh? That sounds like a challenge, Ritsuka."

I nodded. "It is. We're rivals in gaming, but now? Let's settle this in combat."

Yuji clapped his hands. "Alright! Let's see who dominates!"

Karma chuckled darkly. "Oh, I'm gonna enjoy this."

With that, we all stood up, ready for the real battle to exam.

---

(Ritsuka's POV)

After the 20-minute break, the entire Veritas class gathered at the Novice Field.

With 100 cadets crammed into one space, it was crowded—but it also made the atmosphere electric.

A mix of nervousness and excitement buzzed through the students as they chatted.

I took in the sight, feeling a strange mix of anticipation and realization.

"Wow, now this feels like a proper academy," I muttered.

Yuji, stretching his arms, grinned.

"Hell yeah! This is what I signed up for. You can only read history books for so long before you start dying inside."

Karma, hands stuffed into his pockets, smirked.

"I dunno, Itadori. You seemed like you were already dying inside when you saw those 400 pages earlier."

Yuji's eye twitched.

"Listen here, you devil shit—"

Oreki, standing beside us, let out a deep sigh, his expression deadpan.

"All of you have way too much energy. Standing in the sun for two hours, sweating, and running around for a 'lesson'? This is exactly why I hate physical training."

I chuckled. "You're not gonna make it through the year with that attitude, Oreki."

"I'll survive. Barely."

Before we could continue, a stern voice cut through the air.

"Formation!"

Kim Soohyuk had arrived.

Instantly, the cadets scrambled into ten columns, standing at attention.

Soohyuk's gaze swept across the class, his expression unreadable.

"I'm sure you all know what this lesson is about, so I'll announce the teams without explanation."

A murmur of excitement ran through the students.

"Unless something special happens, this team will be the same until after the midterms."

A ripple of tension spread across the field.

The team formations were happening.

A five-member team.

Two warriors for close-range combat.

One sharpshooter for ranged attacks.

One supporter to assist or attack when needed.

One utility player, usually a magician—though that role wasn't added until later in the year.

The teams would be balanced, pairing lower-ranked cadets with higher-ranked ones to make sure nobody got crushed immediately.

Soohyuk's voice rang out, and a holographic list projected into the air.

My gaze scanned the rankings, looking for my name.

And then I found it.

[Utility Player (Short-Range) — Rank 7 Yoo Yeonha, Rank 9 Im Daniel... Rank 884 Ritsuka Fujimaru, Rank 944 John Rock]

"...Utility player?" I muttered.

Yuji peeked over my shoulder. "Damn, buddy. You're way down the list."

Karma, barely holding back laughter, nudged me with his elbow.

"Congrats, Ritsuka. You're officially at the bottom of the food chain."

Oreki, expression blank, sighed.

"Wouldn't be me. I'd just quit."

I sighed, running a hand through my hair.

"Stop acting like you guys are topper than me. We only had few ranks gap between us." I shot back at them. But they just messing with me.

"Hahahaha"

The team assignments had just been announced, and as I scanned the names, I felt a pause in my brain.

"...You have to be kidding me."

I was teamed up with:

Artoria Lionheart

Ainar Fenelin

Shin Jonghak

Artoria was fine. More than fine, actually. But the moment my eyes landed on Shin Jonghak's name, I knew this was going to be a headache.

Meanwhile, next to me, Karma burst into laughter.

"Oh, this is priceless. You know what's even funnier than my team? My team."

I glanced at his list.

[Karma Akabane / Chae Nayun]

Chae Nayun's reaction was immediate—her eye twitched as she clicked her tongue, face twisting in disgust.

"Tch. Just my luck."

Karma, being Karma, just grinned wider.

"Nayun, I promise we'll get along. Maybe. Probably. Eh, no guarantees."

He shouted shamelessly.

She shot him a glare that could have melted steel. "Stay away from me."

"Awww, you're so cold. And here I thought we were bonding yesterday!"

"We weren't, Idiot."

As the two of them bickered, I glanced over to Oreki, who had been sulking just a moment ago.

Now?

He looked weirdly happy.

"Oreki... are you smiling?" I raised an eyebrow.

He shrugged, feigning nonchalance, but the corners of his lips twitched upward.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Yuji leaned over, peeking at Oreki's team. "...Ohhh. Rachel Elizabeth Louise, huh? The princess of England. Damn, dude. You got a royal carry."

Oreki didn't deny it.

Yuji pouted. "Man, I got stuck with a girl who probably hates me already."

[Yuji Itadori / Yoo Yeonha]

I clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Good luck, buddy."

He sighed, "I just wanna punch something, man."

Then they left.

While the others went off to meet their teams, I barely had time to move before Artoria appeared beside me.

With her golden hair, brilliant green eyes, and confident smile, she stood proudly—despite her small height forcing her to look up at me slightly.

Her presence alone drew a few jealous stares from the other guys.

"It's good to see you again, Fujimaru kun," she greeted me warmly.

I smiled back. "Likewise, Artoria."

Her cheeks slightly puffed up, and her smile turned mischievous. "I expect nothing less than your best in this training, my knight."

I chuckled. "Of course, my lady."

Some of the girls nearby blushed at my response.

Before I could say anything else, we reached our team—and I came face-to-face with Shin Jonghak.

I barely had time to breathe before he scoffed.

"Trash."

...Ah.

Right. This guy.

I could already tell he wasn't going to like me, and honestly? I didn't feel like dealing with his ego.

So, I did what any sane person would do—I ignored him.

But Artoria didn't.

Her smile vanished instantly, replaced with a sharp, piercing glare.

For someone as cute as she was, she had an impressive aura of authority when she was angry.

"Did you just call my teammate trash?" Her voice was dangerously calm.

Shin Jonghak's expression twitched, but he didn't back down. "I call it like I see it."

Artoria took one step forward, eyes narrowing. "Then perhaps you should get your eyes checked, because clearly, they are failing you."

A silence hung between them, thick with tension.

Before things could escalate, a soft voice cut through.

"Ahem. Perhaps we should all get along first before declaring war?"

I turned to see Ainar Fenelin, our other teammate, offering a light smile.

"Nice to meet you both, Ritsuka, Artoria."

I nodded. "Same to you, Ainar."

Artoria finally pulled back, crossing her arms. "Fine."

Ainar Fenelin had given us our task—to locate the monster hiding in the forest. It should have been a straightforward mission, but things were never that simple when Shin Jonghak was around.

As we walked through the dense trees, Jonghak suddenly spoke up, his voice laced with irritation.

"Hey, girl. Why are you looking at me like that?"

I didn't need to turn around to know he was talking to Artoria—her unwavering stare had been burning a hole into him since earlier.

He scoffed, arms crossed. "I said he's trash because he is trash."

Artoria didn't hesitate.

"He is not."

I sighed. Here we go.

I stepped in, trying to diffuse the situation before it escalated. "Wait! Let's not go any further. We'll lose our rank if we waste time on this."

But Jonghak had no interest in backing down.

"Don't interfere. We're not equal. Trash who walks with trash."

I exhaled sharply, crossing my arms. Oh, so that's how it is.

The pieces clicked together in my mind. 'This guy's pissed at Karma for messing with Chae Nayun, so he's taking it out on me because I'm Karma's friend. What a complete—'

I looked at him with an expressionless face, a single thought ringing in my mind.

'Simp.'

Artoria's tone turned sharp.

"How can you decide he is trash?! Just because of rumors?"

Jonghak looked taken aback for a second. "What?"

Artoria took a step forward, her sapphire eyes burning with defiance.

"Have you ever tried to talk to Fujimaru-kun?"

He didn't answer, just stared at her with mild confusion, as if the thought had never even crossed his mind.

Then she smiled—a bright, unwavering smile filled with genuine warmth.

"Then I think you should try. He's actually a wonderful person."

Jonghak snorted, rolling his eyes. "Load of crap."

I sighed. Of course, he wouldn't listen.

Just as I was about to step in and end this pointless argument, Artoria's face turned serious.

"If you don't want to talk to him, that's fine. But at the very least, I'd like it if you stopped speaking badly about him. It's so unpleasant to hear."

I blinked, momentarily speechless.

Jonghak's jaw tightened, his pride clearly bruised. Then, in a burst of frustration, he raised his hand—

But I moved instantly, grabbing his wrist before it could go any further.

His eyes widened in surprise at my strength.

I didn't glare at him. I didn't even scowl. I simply spoke calmly.

"Shin Jonghak, if you waste time here, Suho's going to get first rank."

That hit exactly where I wanted.

Jonghak froze, his pride visibly warring with his emotions.

A tense silence hung between us before he clicked his tongue in irritation. "Tch. Don't slow me down, trash."

I released his wrist, unbothered by the insult.

Ainar sighed in relief, offering me a small nod. "Thanks for stopping the war before it started."

Artoria looked at me, guilt flickering in her eyes. "Sorry, Ritsuka. I didn't mean to cause trouble."

I smiled, shaking my head. "Thanks for standing up for me. Also I know you can defend yourself from him. But I don't want to cause sence now. Anyway thanks once again."

Her cheeks slightly reddened, but she grinned brightly.

And with that, we all started running towards the monster's hiding place—because at the end of the day, our mission came first.
