Chapter 14: A Gate In London
In the bustling heart of Westminster, London, on the busy Victoria Street, chaos buzzed through the air as the authorities scrambled to maintain order. A massive A-Rank Gate loomed ominously, pulsating with faint golden light that slowly dimmed. Officers waved civilians back, urging them to clear the area as a crowd gathered. People strained their necks, trying to catch a glimpse of the heroes emerging.
Soon, the gate trembled and rippled before spitting out a group of eight hunters, their forms cutting an imposing figure against the backdrop of destruction. The gate behind them flickered one last time before sealing shut.
Cheers erupted as soon as the crowd registered the team. Civilians called out their names, sang praises, and thanked them profusely. Some threw flowers, while others held up signs with heartfelt messages.
The Raid Team
1. Victoria Arden (S-Rank, Leader, Spear User)
• The team's leader and the first to step forward, Victoria, captivated the crowd not just with her power but her presence. Her sharp, angular face was striking, with piercing emerald green eyes that seemed to glow faintly under the pale London light. Her platinum blonde hair, intricately braided into a crown braid, added an ethereal quality to her fierce expression.
• She wore black and crimson combat armor, adorned with glowing red runic patterns that pulsed in sync with her movements. The armor hugged her frame, combining functionality with an imposing design that left an impression of elegance and strength. A long crimson spear rested against her back, its sharp tip glinting ominously.
2. Eli Doran (A-Rank, Fighter)
• By her side was Eli, exuding a quiet coolness. His jet-black hair, messy and wind-swept, was paired with icy steel-blue eyes. His tattoos—complex designs of dragons and swirling smoke—peeked out from under his dark bomber jacket, which was littered with pins and embroidered patches.
• Despite his laid-back demeanor, there was an edge to him, evident in the calm precision of his movements. He adjusted the straps of his combat holsters, the faint glow of blue runic charms on his jacket adding to his mysterious air.
3. Sebastian "Bash" Greyson (A-Rank, Tank)
• A towering man with a broad build, Bash bore the weight of a heavy shield strapped to his back. His bald head reflected the sunlight, contrasting his dark, rugged beard. His scarred face told stories of countless battles, but his warm hazel eyes gave him a surprisingly gentle presence.
4. Amara Hensley (B-Rank, Support Mage)
• Amara's petite form didn't stop her from wielding incredible power. Her brown hair, tied in a loose bun, framed her soft features. Dressed in white robes with gold accents, she carried a glowing staff covered in vines and flowers—a testament to her affinity with nature magic.
5. Leo Watts (A-Rank, Archer)
• A man with auburn hair tied into a small ponytail, Leo casually slung his gleaming bow over his shoulder. His leather armor, colored in forest greens and browns, gave him a stealthy, hunter-like appearance.
6. Miles Carter (B-Rank, Scout)
• The group's fastest, Miles darted ahead, his compact frame shrouded in lightweight leather gear. His blond hair and mischievous grin gave him a playful air.
7. Nina Reyes (C-Rank, Tracker)
• Nina, with her sharp features and dark hair tied into a ponytail, moved quietly among the group. Her specialized gear allowed her to sense nearby threats, and she carried a dagger on each hip.
8. Oliver Blake (B-Rank, Elementalist)
• Oliver's long coat fluttered as he walked. His bright red hair stood out against his pale skin, and sparks of electricity crackled around his fingers, betraying his affinity with lightning magic.
As the hunters regrouped, the crowd's adoration intensified.
"Victoria, we love you!" shouted one man, his face flushed.
"Eli is so cool! Look at his tattoos!" exclaimed a younger boy in awe.
Some couldn't help but admire Victoria's striking features and commanding presence, while others were enamored by Eli's mysterious and confident aura.
....
The hunters began discussing the raid.
"That A-Rank Gate was no joke," Miles muttered, brushing dirt off his pants.
"Yeah," added Leo, "The monsters were way more aggressive than usual."
Victoria's brows furrowed. "Gates are becoming more frequent, and the monsters inside are getting stronger. If we hadn't cleared this one in time…" Her voice trailed off, a hint of worry creeping in.
Bash placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We did make it in time, Victoria. No point in dwelling on what could've gone wrong. Focus on what we achieved."
Victoria gave a small nod, but her thoughts lingered. Her grip tightened on her spear as a memory surfaced—her mother, lost in a dungeon break years ago. She shoved the thought away, focusing instead on the present.
"Alright," she said firmly, her voice snapping everyone to attention. "Let's head back to the Silver Vanguard Guild."
The team nodded in unison and began their trek back, the cheers of the crowd following them as they disappeared into the streets of Westminster.
