Chapter 73: Encountering a Demon! Terrifyingly Strong Power!

The sun set on the horizon, casting a warm glow over the sky.

Chu Yang and Kanae walked side by side, arriving at a remote small town.

The town was called Anji Town, located to the northeast of the Butterfly Mansion.

Recently, five women had gone missing in the town, all between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five.

According to information from the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters, the perpetrator was likely a powerful demon proficient in Blood Demon Arts, beyond the capability of ordinary swordsmen. Therefore, this mission had been assigned to Kanae.

The headquarters knew Kanae was already busy managing the Butterfly Mansion, but there wasn't anyone else suitable to handle this mission. Besides, the incident occurred in her jurisdiction.

The slight delay in communication from the Demon Slayer Corps also meant that they hadn't considered Chu Yang, who had just completed a mission.

As soon as the two arrived in Anji Town, they could feel the eerie atmosphere. Although it was the time when cooking fires should have been smoking from every chimney, the entire town was eerily quiet.

Rumors had spread about demons attacking young women at night.

"Shall we find an inn to rest, or just patrol the area?" Chu Yang looked around as the sky gradually darkened. There wasn't even a place to eat nearby.

"Forget resting. If we sleep tonight, another girl might end up in danger. Let's patrol the town; we might discover something." Kanae shook her head, then asked curiously, "Why did you leave your weapon outside? What if something unexpected happens?"

Chu Yang shrugged helplessly. "No choice. That blade is huge. If I brought it into town, it would cause a panic."

Kanae shot him an exasperated look. "Who told you to choose such an oversized Nichirin Blade? Now you're realizing how inconvenient it is?"

"It is inconvenient, but it's incredibly satisfying to chop demons with it!" Chu Yang gestured animatedly, saying excitedly, "Sometimes, I don't even need to aim for the neck. I can turn them into minced meat with a single strike!"

Just imagining the scene made Kanae feel a bit nauseous. She was a technical swordsman, focused on precision and lethal strikes to weak points, unable to understand Chu Yang's violent approach.

But looking at Chu Yang's face, full of unshakable confidence, Kanae couldn't help but feel that this young man before her might bring unprecedented change to the Demon Slayer Corps.

Walking down the deserted streets, Chu Yang spoke animatedly, while Kanae listened quietly, a gentle smile in her eyes.

"You two seem to be in a good mood, strolling and chatting in such a quiet place. How enviable."

A figure stood at the end of the street, covering half his face with a fan and laughing coldly.

"Akaza searched for you for so long and couldn't find you, but here I am, running into you by chance. All thanks to Nakime."

Chu Yang immediately noticed the flamboyantly dressed man at the end of the street, especially the "2" reflected in his pupils.

The Upper Rank Two demon—Doma.

Kanae's steps faltered as her hand instinctively went to the hilt of her Nichirin Blade. "Is he a demon?"

Chu Yang nodded. "The stench is all over the street. What else could it be? He's probably the one responsible for those missing girls."

"You're very rude!" Doma feigned hurt. "Stench? That's too much! I bathe in flower petals every day."

"Disgusting," Kanae said coldly, her disdain unmistakable.

"A beautiful girl like you must taste the best," Doma's lips curled into a greedy smile as he ogled Kanae.

Unable to tolerate the provocation, Kanae swiftly drew her blade. In an instant, petals scattered in the air, filled with murderous intent.

"Such an impressive aura..." Doma's playful expression vanished as he gazed at the beautiful girl before him. "You must be a Hashira? My luck is indeed good."

With a flash of her blade, a flurry of petals swept toward Doma, hiding several sharp strikes.

Doma laughed eerily and swung his fan. Frost-formed petals appeared around him, razor-sharp despite their delicate appearance.

White petals of ice clashed with Kanae's pink petals, like winter colliding with spring, two opposing forces in battle.

Amid the flurry of petals, Kanae's Nichirin Blade sliced toward Doma's neck with precision!

"Excellent swordsmanship." Doma's eyes gleamed with admiration as he raised his fan to block. At the same time, his other fan, coated in frost, sliced toward Kanae's wrist.

Kanae swiftly retreated, dodging Doma's strike.

Just as she tried to create distance between them, it was too late.

A frosty storm exploded between them, momentarily blinding Kanae. When she regained her senses, Doma was already behind her.

Her back collided with him.

Doma seized her wrist, his overwhelming strength nearly making her drop her blade.

"The scent of you is... irresistible…" Doma lowered his head, his lips inching toward Kanae's face.

Kanae's face paled.

The next second, Doma's head exploded, blood and brain matter splattering everywhere like a burst watermelon.

"Shut up already." Chu Yang coldly grabbed the remaining half of Doma's head. "Is bullying women all you're good at?"

Doma's remaining mouth opened in a silent scream.

Impatient, Chu Yang kicked him away.

"Are you alright, senior?" Chu Yang glanced down at the shaken Kanae. "That guy is Upper Rank Two. He's not easy to kill."

Without his Nichirin Blade made from scarlet ore, it was indeed difficult to suppress a demon's regenerative abilities. Chu Yang had already noticed this.

Just now, his punch was aimed at blowing Doma's head completely off, but it missed slightly.

Yet in the blink of an eye, Doma's head had begun to regenerate.

Kanae nodded, her heart growing heavy as she noticed the number in Doma's eyes. This was her first time facing an Upper Rank demon.

Meanwhile, Chu Yang had inflicted serious damage on Doma without even using a weapon, which deeply shocked her.

Doma, whose wounds had already healed, stared warily at Chu Yang. His keen senses hadn't even detected that punch earlier.

"This guy is... odd."

For the first time, Doma was taking things seriously, focusing entirely on Chu Yang. Compared to him, Kanae was no longer a threat.

"I guess the rumors were true. Your body can indeed rival a demon's." A red light flickered in Doma's eyes as he became curious about what Chu Yang's flesh would taste like.

"Rival?" Chu Yang scoffed coldly. "You demons sure overestimate yourselves."

With those words, Chu Yang's nostrils flared as two streams of white mist escaped. The Sun Breathing began circulating, and the mist transformed into flames.

Kanae, standing to the side, was equally surprised. She clearly remembered Chu Yang practicing the Breath of Stone, so why did his breathing technique now resemble the Breath of Flame?

As Chu Yang's Sun Breathing stabilized, his body temperature soared. White mist billowed from him, growing more intense, while bright flames danced around him, making him look like an ancient god of fire.

No, more like the Sun God himself!

The extraordinary heat made Doma feel as though he was standing before the sun itself.

The threat of death became overwhelmingly real.

Even from a distance, Doma could feel the oppressive pressure radiating from Chu Yang, suffocating him.

It was a sensation he had only felt before when his master, Muzan Kibutsuji, was enraged.

Chu Yang stepped forward and instantly vanished from Doma's sight.

Sensing danger, Doma immediately activated his Blood Demon Art. Ice crystals rapidly formed around him, creating two giant ice sculptures of maidens on either side of him as protection.

In the next instant, Chu Yang appeared in front of Doma, swinging his fist, flames engulfing it, radiating a brilliant red light.

The ice maidens exhaled freezing mist, dropping the temperature by dozens of degrees, but the moment the mist touched the flames, it evaporated.

The unyielding punch shattered both ice sculptures.

Chu Yang's attack continued unabated, his fist hurtling toward Doma's face.

Doma knew that if he took the punch head-on, he would most likely be pulverized by this young man. Reluctantly, he tried to retreat.

For the first time, the proud Doma chose to step back in a fight against a human.

Though he hated to admit it, Doma felt a sense of humiliation at that moment.

He tried to move but found himself unable to. The oppressive force of Chu Yang's punch made his body feel as though it were trapped in a quagmire, his face twisted in frustration.

His hair and clothing were disheveled under the pressure, leaving him in a sorry state.

"Damn it!" Doma gritted his teeth and raised his arms to block, deciding to take the blow head-on. He refused to believe Chu Yang could kill him with a punch.

But the moment Chu Yang's fist touched Doma's arms, they caved in, bones cracking audibly.

Once again, Doma had overestimated himself and underestimated Chu Yang, about to pay a heavy price.

Just as the blow was about to land, a figure suddenly appeared between them.

The unexpected guest struck Chu Yang's arm from the side, causing most of his power to miss its target.

Chu Yang twisted his body, drawing a half-circle, and swung his fist like a heavy hammer, fiercely smashing toward the one who helped Doma.

The uninvited guest took a direct hit from Chu Yang's punch and was immediately sent flying, crashing heavily into Doma. The two were both knocked back by Chu Yang, smashing through several buildings along the way.

As the dust settled, Chu Yang finally saw who the newcomer was.

Beside Doma, Akaza's arm was twisted and contorted, clearly having suffered a significant impact, but his expression was indifferent, and there was an excited gleam in his eyes.

"I didn't believe at first that a human could possess such a strong body, but I just personally felt your strength," Akaza said, trembling with excitement. "You should evolve like us, instead of wasting your talent."

"Sorry, my favorite pastime is sunbathing," Chu Yang replied calmly, though his eyes were filled with killing intent as the flames around him grew fiercer.

"Upper Rank Two and Upper Rank Three together, huh? Not bad. If I kill you two, I wonder if Muzan will be heartbroken."

Akaza's bones snapped back into place as he smiled provocatively and said, "Don't worry, you won't have the chance."

Doma whispered, "You hold him off. I'll kill that woman and then come back to join you."

Akaza sneered, "Join? There's no need! I'll kill him myself."

Ignoring Akaza's brashness, Doma kept his eyes on Kanae, not letting her out of his sight for a moment.

Meanwhile, Kanae keenly sensed the killing intent directed at her. Judging from the situation, she realized she had become a burden to Chu Yang, and a sense of determination rose in her heart.

"No matter who comes to kill me, I'll do my best to hold them off," Kanae whispered into Chu Yang's ear. "You focus on the fight. Don't worry about me, and don't get distracted."

"There's no need," Chu Yang shook his head. "I'll kill them both. Just keep yourself safe."

Kanae looked at him in astonishment. The absolute confidence radiating from Chu Yang made her believe that he really could take on both opponents at once.
