Chapter 74: Chapter 72.2: The Tailed Beast Capture Plan! Uchiha Madara’s Full Power Unleashed!
As long as it didn't interfere with the mission, Chu Yang had no intention of disciplining or educating his subordinates. The unchanging truth is that the weak are oppressed, and if one cannot keep up, they shouldn't blame others for a lack of respect.
The Land of Waterfalls isn't vast. With a ninja's pace, they could traverse the entire country in no more than a week.
To save time, Chu Yang divided the three Anbu squads, assigning them to separate areas. Their main goal was to locate the tailed beast, not engage it directly. As long as they were cautious, there wouldn't be much danger to their lives.
However, this plan was met with some resistance from the team.
"Lord Yang, before the mission began, Lord Tobirama repeatedly emphasized that your safety is our top priority—more important even than capturing the tailed beast!"
While Chu Yang appreciated his mentor's concern, he felt this order was a bit excessive.
"If protecting me is more important than capturing the tailed beast, then what's the point of us being here? Are we on vacation?" Chu Yang said in a deep voice.
The team members exchanged hesitant glances until one finally spoke up, albeit nervously, "We must leave some people behind to protect you."
Chu Yang glanced coldly at the speaker and asked, "What's your name?"
The rest of the team tensed, casting sympathetic looks toward the speaker. The man, appearing somewhat flustered but quickly regaining his composure, said resolutely, "Uchiha Yangdou."
"Yangdou..." A faint smile appeared on Chu Yang's face, and with a tone of approval, he said, "Then you stay behind. The others will proceed as planned."
Yangdou's face lit up with joy.
The other two squads were stunned, only then realizing that Chu Yang had been testing them. A sense of regret washed over them.
Everyone realized that this Uchiha named Yangdou was bound to be favored after this mission!
"Search behind the waterfalls!" Chu Yang gave one last order before the squads dispersed, leaving his sight swiftly as they searched for the tailed beast.
Their only option now was to find the tailed beast quickly, to regain some advantage.
Once only Yangdou remained by his side, Chu Yang activated his Observation Haki to scan for the Eight-Tails' presence.
As a top-tier force in the Naruto world, the Eight-Tails exuded a formidable aura. Even though it deliberately concealed its presence, it was still detectable through the Observation Haki.
Two nights later, deep within a cave behind a massive waterfall, Chu Yang sensed a powerful aura—a giant creature with the head of an ox and the body of an octopus.
The Eight-Tails!
"I've found it," Chu Yang said, turning to Yangdou. "Notify the others to rendezvous with me and send word back to the village."
Yangdou shivered as he gazed at the immense waterfall, his nerves tingling.
He used the Anbu's special communication methods to send the message.
"Lord Yang, how are you so sure the Eight-Tails is here?" Yangdou asked cautiously.
"Instinct," Chu Yang replied tersely, offering no further explanation.
Yangdou mentally berated himself for not asking more questions earlier. If Madara Uchiha arrived and things went awry, how would he explain?
Chu Yang, oblivious to Yangdou's regret, focused on the movements of the Eight-Tails inside the cave. The waterfall suddenly surged more violently, as if stirred by the beast within.
"Suppress your breathing and chakra," Chu Yang instructed.
Just as he finished speaking, the waterfall parted as though a curtain had been pulled aside, revealing a massive silhouette behind it.
Yangdou's entire body tensed up. For the first time, he truly felt awe toward Chu Yang.
The Eight-Tails hadn't noticed them yet. It emerged from its cave, disturbed by some unknown anxiety, and began to move away.
With just a slight turn, the Eight-Tails' movements stirred up waves large enough to nearly engulf their hiding spot.
The Eight-Tails glanced around briefly before vanishing into the dark night.
As its silhouette faded, Yangdou couldn't contain himself. "Lord Yang, should we pursue it?"
Chu Yang remained still, his gaze cold and focused. "Wait."
Yangdou was about to argue when the lake nearby rippled again, and a shadow reappeared. He immediately clamped his mouth shut.
The Eight-Tails circled around, heading off in the opposite direction this time.
"Was it trying to lure us out?" Yangdou asked, incredulous at what had just happened.
"After being hunted for so long, even a fool would grow cautious."
Chu Yang glanced at him with a raised eyebrow. "How did you get selected for the Anbu?"
Yangdou scratched his head awkwardly. "I'm more confident in combat, to be honest."
At this, Chu Yang's expression softened slightly.
Thanks to his keen Observation Haki, Chu Yang remained just outside the Eight-Tails' detection range, tailing it closely. Yangdou, meanwhile, served as the communicator, relaying updates on the Eight-Tails' movements to the rest of the team.
After another day of pursuit, the Eight-Tails, appearing somewhat exhausted, finally stopped at a valley. It slowly entered a deep pool, half-submerged like a person lounging in a bath. The scene was almost comical.
As the Eight-Tails leaned against the mountainside and closed its eyes, Chu Yang signaled to the Anbu squads to converge.
Sensing the moment had come, Chu Yang gave the order, "Set up the barrier!"
The squads scattered, taking their positions. From twelve different directions, they surrounded the Eight-Tails.
In unison, they formed hand signs, and soon, twelve beams of light shot into the sky, converging to form a polygonal barrier.
"Now it's up to you, Lord Madara."
A shadow leapt from atop the waterfall as Madara Uchiha, accompanied by Chu Yang's words, strode toward the Eight-Tails.
Madara chuckled softly, "Well done, kid. No wonder Hashirama and Tobirama think so highly of you. If you were an Uchiha, I might have considered making you my disciple."
Madara's overwhelming chakra immediately roused the slumbering Eight-Tails, which rose and let out an earth-shattering roar.
The ground shook violently, and it seemed as though the end of the world had arrived.
Chu Yang suddenly realized a crucial mistake—he shouldn't be here. The aftermath of a battle between Madara and the Eight-Tails could easily destroy everything in the vicinity.
A serious miscalculation!
Without wasting any time, Chu Yang fled the battlefield. In the next instant, he felt a wave of heat surge toward him.
"Fire Release: Majestic Destroyer Flame!"
Turning back, Chu Yang was blinded by the sight of flames engulfing the sky, burning with a ferocity that left him in awe.
His heart tightened as he hurried to the edge of the barrier.
Just as he caught his breath, his instincts screamed danger. Quickly forming hand signs, he erected a barrier around himself.
"Wood Release: Tree Wall Barrier!"
Realizing one barrier might not be enough, Chu Yang poured chakra into creating layer upon layer of protection, forming a cascading barrier.
On the other side, Madara unleashed a "Majestic Destroyer Flame," engulfing the Eight-Tails. Not to be outdone, the Eight-Tails whipped up massive waves with its enormous tails, eventually creating a colossal tsunami.
The curtain of fire clashed with the tsunami, releasing a sudden burst of high-temperature steam that surged forward. The trees and flowers on the surrounding cliffs withered instantly upon contact with the steam.
Madara Uchiha puffed out his chest and gently blew, dispersing the steam in front of him with a powerful gust of wind.
The first Wood Release barrier was unsurprisingly destroyed by the heat.
Madara glanced back at Chu Yang, then smiled and said, "I originally planned to warm up a bit, but it looks like I don't have much time to play with you. Let's end this quickly."
With that, Madara summoned his complete-body Susanoo, a massive armored giant that rose from the ground, facing the Eight-Tails head-on without losing any momentum.
Sensing the threat, the Eight-Tails roared once again, its massive jaws opening wide as dark red chakra gathered into a sphere.
The Tailed Beast Bomb!
Seeing this, Chu Yang quickly erected several more Wood Release barriers.
Having fought tailed beasts many times before, Madara knew the destructive power of the Tailed Beast Bomb. His Susanoo spread its four arms wide, and the longsword in its hand was ready for action.
The air hummed with an oppressive vibration—the sound of the Eight-Tails compressing its Tailed Beast Bomb.
The twelve elite Anbu members maintaining the barrier outside could barely breathe under the pressure of this terrifying force.
Suddenly, the vibration stopped.
The Tailed Beast Bomb was launched from the Eight-Tails' mouth.
It soared through the air like a cannonball, creating a piercing sound as it tore through the sky.
In the blink of an eye, it was right in front of Madara Uchiha.
Susanoo's sword swung down, striking the Tailed Beast Bomb with immense force. A violent shockwave, akin to a tsunami, swept across the area. The barrier around them began to crack, resembling a mirror on the verge of shattering.
At that moment, Susanoo unleashed an overwhelming burst of power, slicing the Tailed Beast Bomb into four pieces, each flying off in different directions.
One of the fragments hurtled toward Chu Yang's position!
Damn it, friendly fire?
Chu Yang couldn't help but curse internally as the football field-sized Tailed Beast Bomb fragment flew toward him.
When the fragment landed, all the defenses he had painstakingly set up were instantly obliterated.
Fortunately, the Wood Release barriers had absorbed the residual force of the blast, leaving Chu Yang unharmed.
When he reopened his eyes, the landscape before him was in ruins.
The waterfall, the green mountains, the trees, the flowers—all were gone.
"This is almost like a nuclear explosion..." Chu Yang swallowed nervously. No wonder the power of the tailed beasts could influence wars between nations—how many shinobi could survive a single Tailed Beast Bomb?
Apart from the fragment that Chu Yang's defenses had blocked, the other pieces of the Tailed Beast Bomb hit the barrier.
The intense impact made the barrier tremble, and more cracks appeared. It was clear that it wouldn't hold for much longer.
Susanoo and the Eight-Tails engaged in a fierce melee, their colossal forms wreaking havoc. Either one of them could easily devastate a city.
"We need to find a way to restrain the Eight-Tails after the barrier breaks. Otherwise, none of the Anbu members will survive."
The barrier the Anbu had set up wasn't small. Once it was violently broken, the backlash would undoubtedly be severe.
In the worst-case scenario, there could be casualties. Even in a less extreme situation, most of them would lose their ability to fight.
Chu Yang's Wood Release had a strong suppressive effect on tailed beasts, which could catch them off guard. But this also meant that Chu Yang would have to take the risk of intervening in the battle between Madara and the Eight-Tails.
