Shadow Slave: The Holy Emperor

Chapter 19: Forgotten Shore: Day 14 "Keter... do you know the Legend of Odysseus?"

Keter woke up covered in seaweed bandages. Slowly picking himself up, he examined his wounds. 'Most of them are gone, all that's left is the runes.' Keter couldn't heal the runes and from what it looks like Nephis couldn't either. Keter looked over to the pale sleeping body of Nephis, then to the awake Cassie.

"What happened after I passed out?" Cassie looked towards him and a relieved expression appeared on her face.

"Nephis absorbed the transcendent soul shard you were lying against to be fast enough to get you both out of there. When Nephis got you up here she healed you but the runes wouldn't fully heal so I bandaged you."

Keter flinched from the "Loud" sound and then looked up at her surprised. "You?"

Cassie nodded. "Even if I can't see finding my way around a human body enough to bandage it is quite easy. Also, the runes are going to scar and from what I can tell this wasn't the first time they have shown up. And you don't need to worry about Nephis she wasn't injured."

"Thanks for the help, but now that I'm awake, you can rest. We're going to need a lot of your help soon after all." Keter adjusted the bandages to make them a bit more comfortable. He then began trying to readjust his senses.

"What do you mean my help?" Cassie frowned. "Why would you need my help."

"Even if Nephis and I are strong, we don't stand a chance against any of the true terrors of this god-forsaken place. You're a soothsayer; you are our only way to live through this hellish place." Keter instantly dismisses her self-deprecating words.

Cassie doesn't say anything for a while then shows a faint smile. Keter could see the storm of depression and self-doubt wane. "Thank you... and good night." Cassie lays down her storm of emotions growing ever more complicated.

"Good night."

'What did I get for killing the two Centurions?' Keter moved on to other things to let Cassie figure herself out.

As Keter saw his class he flinched. 'God I'm starting to remember how painful that was. But an echo and a memory? how lucky. What do they do?'

[Starlight Legion Longsword]

Memory Rank: Awakened

Memory Type: Weapon

Memory Description: [For man sinned, bathing the world in their betrayal

For man killed, casting their fellow man to the depths

For man declared, they didn't need the gods

and from their will the sun was reborn anew]

'A poem hm. Most of my memories involve "Will" and "Consequences" as centerpieces of the description. It makes sense tho considering the history of this place.' Keter brought up the runes for another memory.

[Man Eater]

Memory Rank: Awakend

Memory Tier: II

Memory Type: Charm

Memory Description: [In their desperation, as the darkness consumed the stars once more, man turned on their fellow man].

'I still don't know what it particle does but I think I have a decent guess now.'Keter then brought up another set of Runes.

[Carapace Centurion]

Echo Rank: Awakened.

Echo Class: Monster

Echo Attributes: [Corrupted Starlight] [Strong] [Armored] [Deathly Blow]

'I can't believe I got an echo from that.' A smile grew on Keter's face. "It will be pretty useful for dealing with the Carapace Demon. But the difference between classes is deranged. I would know much better than most considering I'm a "Monster" now.'

Keter suppressed a shiver from the overwhelming amount of information entering his brain. 'I'm different... it's not just a second core like in the novel. It's far more than that, I feel like I've become more. My senses are far stronger, my instincts feel more like I'm getting shot than the "poke" it was before, my mind is better, sharper, and "More" than before. That's really the only way I feel like I can describe it.'

Keter brought his hand in front of his face moving it around as if his examining it. 'Everything I do feels far more deliberate than before. I feel like I'm in far more control of my own body than I was before. It's so weird.' Even without looking towards her direction and while being meters away from her Keter could tell Nephis was waking up.

"Good morning sleepy head." Keter turned to look at her then his smile turned far more sincere. "Also thank you for saving me."

Nephis slowly got up then looked his way and gave a simple nod. Nephis walked over and grabbed his hand.

[You have received Memory: Azure Armor]

[You have received Memory: Shattered Sea Charm]

"Thanks, Nephis and that's a damn cool set of armor you got there." Keter looked over Nephis's armor admiring the amazing craftmanship.

"Indeed it's also quite a good set of armor it will make dealing with the Centurions much easier." Keter could tell the pain from using her aspect previously was still affecting her.

"Nephis your aspect is divine just like mine, and your flaw if I'm guessing correctly is pain.. right?" Keter looks at Nephis with a mournful look.

Nephis's gaze was heavier than ever, Keter could tell she was close to getting aggressive.

"I'm not the assassin after you Nephis. The assassin's name is Caster." Keter's mournful gaze grew heavy. "After all we've lived through together do you still not trust me?"

Nephis was strangely silent and when she finally spoke she said. "Keter... do you know the Legend of Odysseus?"

-----------------------------------------------

I decided to change how classes worked because the benefits that Sunny and Nephis got seemed to little for what it truly was. P.S. the true advantage from the higher class has to do with "Will"
