Shadow Slave: Eternal Madness

Chapter 62: Heart Lineage

"Join into one formation!" Nephis yelled at the soldiers of both armies, but her orders were lost in the chaos.

Gritting her teeth, Nephis summoned her angelic wings and took to the dark sky.

Looking down at the battlefield, her expression darkened. The situation was far worse than she had thought.

The left wing of the human army was being massacred by the second. The central army was holding its ground against the Underworld forces, but the right wing, though less attacked by the Underworld army, was closer to the cracks, making it the first target for the tide of Nightmare creatures.

Nephis knew that if the human army wanted to escape this dire situation, their hope lay with the right wing.

If the right wing could stop the tide of Nightmare creatures and break through the left flank of the Underworld army, they could then target the right flank of the central Underworld forces.

The problem, however, was the left wing of the human army. If the Underworld broke through and attacked the central army, the human forces would be doomed.

It was a race against time, and the scales were tipped in the Underworld's favor.

Dodging projectiles from the Underworld army, Nephis descended to where the Lord of Shadows stood.

"Sunny."

Sunny, who had just pierced one of the Transcendent stone statues with his spear, looked up at Nephis in surprise.

"What happened?!"

After explaining her plan, Sunny quickly agreed.

Ordering Saint, Fiend, and Nightmare to reinforce the right wing, Sunny smiled and turned his attention inward, to his soul sea.

Inside, a serpent so massive it coiled around his soul sea awaited.

The serpent didn't wait for Sunny's command, as if it had been longing to break free.

Sunny's shadow grew larger and larger until, finally, the serpent surged forth, its massive body descending upon the tide of Nightmare creatures, crushing them beneath its weight. Those who survived were torn apart by its fangs.

The serpent raised its head and let out a strange, deafening sound that burst the eardrums of anyone nearby.

Those who witnessed the serpent held their breath, intimidated by its sheer presence.

Nightmare darted between the soldiers, charging toward the tide of Nightmare creatures.

Sunny, atop Nightmare, wielded his spear, piercing through everything in his path.

Saint and Fiend fought side by side against the tide.

Seeing the Lord of Shadows join them, the right wing of the human army felt a glimmer of confidence and rallied behind him.

On the other side of the battlefield, Nephis fought valiantly against the Underworld army, slowing their advance.

Even she couldn't do this alone. Beside her, the Fire Keepers joined their lady in this seemingly suicidal attack.

Gritting her teeth, Nephis thrust with Blessing, destroying another stone statue.

Her white flames ran along her blade, making it a beacon of light in the darkness. But that was the most she could do.

Her flames were shackled by the overwhelming darkness, making it difficult to heal herself, let alone heal those around her.

Even with Nephis and the Fire Keepers slowing the enemy's advance, the Underworld army continued to push forward relentlessly.

Suddenly, a loud noise echoed from the left flank of the Underworld army.

Summoning her wings, Nephis flew into the sky to investigate.

There, Seishan and the Blood Sisters were launching a surprise attack on the Underworld forces.

With Seishan distracting the enemy, Nephis ordered a full assault, hoping to reach the Blood Sisters and combine their forces.

The enemy formation, thrown into chaos by the surprise attack, was now easier to push back.

After thirty minutes of clashing Aspect powers and darkness, the Fire Keepers finally reached the Blood Sisters.

Looking at Nephis, Seishan spoke with a hint of annoyance, "You're late."

Nephis didn't respond, focusing instead on destroying more stone statues.

Seishan giggled and asked, "Are you still angry about Cassia?"

Nephis shot her a sharp glance, clearly struck a nerve.

The two joined forces, fighting side by side against the Underworld army.

Following their leaders, the Fire Keepers and Blood Sisters fought together. At last, the Dreamer Army of the Forgotten Shore was reborn.

The right wing of the Underworld army slowed, but they were still advancing, dangerously close to breaking through the right wing of the human army.

Fortunately, the human army's right wing managed to halt the tide of Nightmare creatures. Under the Lord of Shadows' orders, they threw everything they had at the left wing of the Underworld army, their backs protected by Sunny's shadows.

Unlike the right wing, the left wing of the Underworld army was weaker, thanks to the disparity in numbers between the two forces.

The human army pushed forward relentlessly. Sunny, at the forefront, thrust his spear at a Transcendent stone statue. The statue parried the attack, but it quickly regretted its move as Nightmare's horns pierced through its body.

After an hour of fighting, Sunny finally caught sight of the end of the Underworld army.

But it was too late. The right wing of the Underworld army broke through the left wing of the human army, attacking the central forces from behind.

Behind the human army, a man walked calmly, his steps filled with confidence.

His presence was felt by the strong, as the world itself seemed to bend around him with every step.

Wearing a tattered spacesuit with a cracked helmet visor, the man looked up at the Sovereigns.

"You two think highly of yourselves... Why do you assume I need a plan to defeat you?"

Reaching the left wing of the human army, the stone statues suddenly collapsed, lifeless.

"I don't care who rules humanity. What I care about is this world, its mysteries, and the only thing that can answer my questions—what lies on the moon."

Nephis glared at the man, her eyes filled with hatred.

"Ah... but I'm too weak. The knowledge on the moon is something only gods can comprehend."

The Heart God is the God of Souls, and the stone statues are mere vessels imbued with the souls of Underworld residents.

The man clenched his fist, crushing the souls within the stone statues, reducing them to lifeless rubble.

"After decades of searching for a way to become a god, he came to me."

"A contract was formed, and the deal was sealed!"

"In exchange for the secret of godhood, I will join this war until Raphael, the Black Emperor, is dead."

The Dreamspawn...

The Abomination...

The one who must not be named...

Asterion, the descendant of the Heart God, had finally descended onto the battlefield.

Yet, the scales of war had not shifted...
